Is anyone here still willing to defend McLeish?
buster. replied to Ser Barristan Selmy's topic in General Football Chat
He was ready for his pipe and slippers, not another high profile job. Don't know if he'd want it but I'd ask Steve Clarke to take over. -
Scottish Football Hall of Fame Nomination guideline The committee of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame will consider nominees who meet the following criteria… 1) Players recognised as being Scottish (in compliance with FIFA’s international guidelines on eligibility) once they have retired from the game. 2) Non Scottish players who have made a significant contribution to Scottish football and who have since finished playing in Scotland. 3) Managers recognised as being Scottish who are deemed to have spent a reasonable length of time in their chosen field. 4) Non Scottish managers who have made a significant contribution to Scottish football and who are deemed to have spent a reasonable length of time in their chosen field. 5) Officials recognised as being Scottish who are deemed to have spent a reasonable length of time in their chosen field. 6) Non Scottish officials who have made a significant contribution to Scottish football and who are deemed to have spent a reasonable length of time in their chosen field. The number of individuals inducted may vary from year to year at the discretion of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame committee, but at least one inductee per year should come from the pre 1945 era. These guidelines are subject to review by the committee of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. http://scottishfootballhalloffame.co.uk/nominations/ It seems to have links with THE SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION MUSEUM TRUST Company number SC152276 Oficers include Alan McRae and Campbell Ogilvie but doesn't necessarily follow that they'd be on relevant SFHoF committee. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC152276/officers

A Hall of Fame statement said "a number of factors" were behind the move. It read: "Further to consultation with the chair and members of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame committee, due to a number of factors including ongoing enquiries, and concerns over the state of Paul's health, it has been decided to withdraw the nomination of Paul Gascoigne at this time from this year's nomination process." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45829386

.........Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said Kyle Lafferty cited an Achilles injury when he withdrew from the squad on Sunday to rule himself out of two crunch Nations League matches....... ....."Kyle had an Achilles problem, we knew he had an Achilles problem in September," O'Neill said. "He felt that it was in his best interests that he didn't travel because it gives him the opportunity to stay off the Achilles and that's the reason for him withdrawing from the squad.".........

There is a root to a lot of the 'issues' within the Scottish game that if not sorted out will continue to contaminate or be the reason for many new (or ongoing for that matter) situations
-
This is very much the 'other issue'. Contradictions that don't get called out or if mentioned, not proportionately.

Using that UEFA site, you can compare players playing in the EL playing in the same position Compared with the Second Coming (Tierney) JT 1st KT 37th Does that make Tav worth about 2Bn ?

Better to wait until you know the truth before passing judgement. I hope everything is ok for KL and his family.

I think clubs having all comers in their HoF is fine and is the place for such contributions to the Scottish game....but the Scottish HoF should be about Scots. -------------------- That said, there is another issue here and one that is all too common.
-
Better to refrain from such barbed comment until you know the why.

PQ 2008-09 From wearing a Celtic Polo in Zeta, to cheering on Zenit in Manchester. I wonder if they made any plans for the tour to Japan, they never seem to mention it.
-
Generally speaking,....... - think the Scottish Hall of Fame should be restricted to Scots. - many H of Fs are diluting value by including too many so as to make more money. I don't know if it is still the case but Blackpool FC restricted each decade to 5 individuals.

"It's a massive club and it was an easy decision for me," he told Rangers TV. "The recognition you can get playing for Ranges is huge. "I like to get on the ball as much as I can, get forward and create goals." Tav July 2015 One of the few times when the first interview is bang-on. ------------------------------ IMO, he is the best signing the club have made this decade.

Twelve months down the line from that and I wonder if the BBC got one made for Manchester 2008...............

Is Lafferty retiring from International football ?
buster. replied to BEARGER's topic in Rangers Chat
Could be a personal thing for whatever reason. I'm sure it'll get out one way or tuther soon enough. -
I'd doubt it was a negative for the club if he wants to get back on the board. If anyone was to have meaningful comment on this, it'd be Forlansister.

Just listened to it and have to say that it went up a level this week. Generally excellent and the considered analysis of John pushed it in front of anything I've heard in Rangers podland. Thanks to all involved, you've put together a really excellent programme. -
Given the deal seemed to be touch and go, it might have needed something extra to get it over the line. The simple one would have been more cash but if the priority was the players development then you'd look for him to get games. It might not even be a clause in the contract, Gerrard might have given a personal assurance that unless he were to bomb, that he'd get a certain amount of gametime. What is without doubt is that Gerrard likes the player and believes he'll do a job when called on.

Historically, the issue has been our general failure to improve enough players. To have a football operation that is very much about improving players and currently a staff that seem to be very competent makes a sea change from anything I've seen in more than 40 years at Ibrox.
