VAR doesn't deal with our media. Do you have a system that could stop Michael Stewart going-on about the Morelos rescinded red card in August of last year ? -

Whatever the system, there will always be mistakes, omissions and paranoia. To simply throw money that Scottish football hasn't got at technology and professional referees won't take away the darker side of this issue, ie. how the media narrative is shaped and designed to influence opinion. Journalists and pundits shouting about wanting a solution is hypocritical because a large part of it is down to them (increased scrutiney and often incesent coverage). -
I C&P'd the pic in case they changed it. I've just looked at the same article..... Steven Gerrard: Rangers boss says Alfredo Morelos 'only trying to protect himself' ...and they've changed the pic. It's now.....

If he's clearly wrong then he should get overruled IMO. I don't think the disciplinary side of things (cards) should be included in what can be appealed by teams. -

Depends, for run-outs, stumpings, no-balls, if ball has reached boundary, 4 or 6 and probably more,.... the umpire can request assistance. The thing about tennis and cricket is that the teams have a maximum number of appeals that come within their respective set criteria. I reckon that VAR/football could trial a maximum of one appeal per team, per 45 or 90 minutes. This would be in addition to the way VAR is used just now and would partially eliminate one of the systems weaknesses, ie. when VAR assistant doesn't pick up on something, eg. Real Madrid penalty claim last Sunday. -

Obviously conjecture but hypothetically, you'd have to consider a bid as high as 7M. You'd expect Mark Allen to have a floating list of contingencies lined up for all positions. -

I briefly thought about A.I. eventually being able to make decisions and solve the potential for mistakes/bias at whatever level,.... referee, C.O., compliance process, VAR........... but then whoever programmed the A.I. would be sought out and grilled As Rick highlights, the main problem in the here and now is the increased and generally unbalanced media coverage.....and of course where this can lead. The line in the song about 'no-one likes us....' has probably never been more apt. Tabloids always look to cover and feed stories that will provide controversy, clickbait and revenue. In so doing, they sometimes and knowingly, act irresponsibly, eg. Sutton piece on SFA stitch-up. IMO, it's more about the commercial than consistent one-way bias. BBC Scotland is another story (see 26th of Foot thread) and one that is becoming darker but more obviously an abuse of their charter. Perhaps they should get a prize on how to get away with it. Sometimes it's not even what they say but instead they use a photograph above a story to speak the thousand words (eg. see current story on Morelos/covered in another thread). It wasn't just the financial where we have lost considerable ground in recent years. -

Excellent article by Rick Roberts Calm, reasoned and as objective as you will get anywhere,............ unlike the subject he talks about. -
I think the choice of pic to go on top of the article says more about PQ than it does anything else. You have Morelos and Broon in the pic, so far fine......but Morelos is out of focus whilst Broon is in focus with a sarcastic expression that suggests 'aye, that'll be right'. In other words, it's what PQ think of what SG is saying. I'll C&P the pic in case they change it.

You can make a reasonable case that Klopp wasn't at all unhappy about his team going out of the Cup and that would say everything about where the FA Cup ranks in terms of importance. I'd agree, they've been fortunate that the Cup weekend came after the Man City defeat.

I wrote the following about Davis (and broon) back in October..... Bottomline, the proof will be in the pudding for all signings, at all clubs. For us, that pudding will come early after the winter break because given our schedule, we'll need to come out of the traps flying. -

South Americans playing in the Spanish league were occasionally late back (without permission) from their Xmas break. It's a long flight and I had wondered about the possibility of giving him an extra 24 hours and having him go direct to Spain from Colombia. -
The M.O. of Sutton and his career in the media is about ensuring he can't be ignored within what is a low quality environment that tends to lap up controversy and serve it up as clickbait. Scottish football medialand could be used as a testground for the use of basic A.I. programming. Replace journalists/pundits with two dimensional algorithms set up to create controversy. You could even replace Michael Stewart on the Sportscene couch with.............

I think you have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks before you brand it as madness. It'll be a positive for him to be able to train with better players under the microscope of our management team. It'll be up to him to show that he doesn't look out of place. Thereafter, I'd imagine decisions will be made. -

That does sound good A loan with two recall options shouldn't come with a huge fee and it should mean he'll be ok to play in European summer qualifiers. -

The disgust at the overturning of the Morelos red at Aberdeen has never went away and it gets repeatedly mentioned on Sportsound by the usual suspects. They've somehow managed to forget their outrage on a Naismith incident but not Alfredo. Perhaps the only thing that would replace their weekly moan about the Morelos decision would be another Morelos decision -

That isn't the current choice though. If we knew the actual options under consideration it'd be easier to opine. I wouldn't dispute their quality, it's more if their bodies would be up to playing a lot of Scottish football and how long it would take them to get back up to speed within the 5 months. If we don't successfully negotiate a tough start back later this month, the league could be more or less over by the end of February. It comes down to SG&Co and how they see things. If it's the way they want to go, then fine. -

Davis is 34 and has played 128 minutes of Legue football since mid-Feburary. Defoe is 36 and in the same time period has played 336 minutes of League football, scoring 1 goal. This season he has played 21 minutes of league football with no goals (his last senior goal was 10 months ago). Both have had excellent careers but are now on the downhill path. We'd get the Davis and Defoe of today, not several years ago. It's difficult to say if they are a gamble worth taking, without knowing what other viable options are out there.
