  1. It wasn't an objective choice of names, granted.... but I'd say there aren't too many marquee signings that have went well in recent years. Principally because, we can't afford real marquee signings and the names we get tend to come complete with particular issues that again tend to mean we don't get value for money. Better to go for players who don't come with the issues.
  2. The John Mason whataboutery card was as predictable as it is pathetic.
  3. Thank's for your comprehensive reports and website over the season, elfideldo ! The Bert Kassie of our youth set-up. He may be Dutch but his username is easier to spell
  4. Barton, Kranjcar and Alves were marquee signings,.......... Morelos, Kamara and Tav wren't. Barton, Kranjcar and Alves : 41 league games for Rangers between them...How much in wages ? One season of Tav and half a season of Kamara beats that number out of the park. For varying reasons, Barton, Kranjcar and Alves showed why you should be very careful when going down the expensive named veteran route.
  5. Last gasp winner saves the red faces. Pundits who thought Clarke can work instant miracles with a team in transition, who aren't defensively secure or have a real centre-forward threat were being blindly optimistic. That said, we did get the win when in similar type recent group scenarios (eg home draw v Lithuania) we didn't. Given Nations League play-off next year. It's really about being ready for those games, IMO.
  6. First time I've seen a Scottish player do this.......... She'll be playing for Scotland against the 'Auld Enemy' tomorrow.
  7. Joe Aribo His wiki page has his current team as Sons of William
  8. What we thought of as a marque signing back in the day is no longer possible, unless they are on the cusp of retirement, spend too much time in the treatment room or have some other issue. I'd refer to most of those type of players as ex-marque. Rather than thinking in fees, it's the salary levels where Scottish football, amongst other leagues have been left behind. For SG&Co it's more about putting a team of reasonable to decent players together that all pull in the same direction and then trying to add a little synergy. Then you have to hope recruitment and youth development unearth the rough diamonds and you get some real quality, even if for only a season or two.
  9. Players worth keeping an eye on..............
  10. How many times do we need to be stung before we learn ?!!
  11. The main overall objective for most I think was to turn the clubs fortunes around and create a base from which we have a chance to get our title back asp. This was done in very difficult circumstances and there were and still are various battles to overcome. I think there has been a great effort by an amazingly loyal support attending football matches. Club 1872 and it's members, despite predictable teething problems have also stepped up and contributed greatly. Kudos to the board and Dave King for making the move in 2015 and directing many of those ongoing battles. This particular story is a step of what was a structured debt strategy talked about by DK back in 2015. We needed DK, DP, GL, GT and others. They needed the support.
  12. I'd be sceptical about a deal for Sturridge. Last time he played a lot of league minutes was 2013/14 .....(2276 minutes) One of only two seasons in his entire career to do so From 2014/15 he's played a total of 3541 League minutes Since he joined for 2015/16, James Tavernier has played more than 3,000 minutes league minutes in each of his 4 seasons at Ibrox (total 12950)
  13. Speculating what the speculation might have been should give ample room for most available players to be linked.
  14. Unquestionably, the best player I've ever seen at Rangers
  15. Speculation about to be Squared ??
  16. Spot-on, Michael was without doubt, world class and was an automatic starter at the elite clubs he played for (Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid) Playing in Scotland, Brian looked out of this world. Apparently, their Dad could play as well. He scored the winner for Denmark in a game against Scotland back in 1971. More talent in one family than the whole of Scotland has had in 50 years. ------------------------ This thread reminded me of this video, especially at 40 seconds
  17. Game against Oxford is the Sunday prior to EL 1st Rd. 1st leg. Last season we played Bury at Ibrox (6-0) on the Friday before the first European game. Strong team started / lots of changes as you'd expect RANGERS: McGregor (McCrorie 79), Tavernier (Hodson 72), Goldson (Bradley 79), Katic (Wilson 69), Flanagan (John 45), McCrorie (Jack 62), Windass (Atakayi 72), Candeias (Halliday 62), Arfield (Docherty 69), Murphy (Middleton 62), Morelos (Rudden 72) SUBS NOT USED: Kelly The Marseille game is on the Sunday between 1st and 2nd legs of 1st round. Last season there wasn't a game that weekend. Blackburn fixture will be straight after the 1st round 2nd leg and hopefully a few days before the 2ns Rd. 1st leg. Last season we played Wigan at Ibrox (3-0) at this stage and debutant Sadiq had the messageboards positively buzzing ! RANGERS: Alnwick (Foderingham, 45) Tavernier (Hodson, 64), Bradley (Katic, 45), Goldson (Coulibaly, 72), Halliday (Murphy, 64), McCrorie, Docherty (Kent, 72), Ejaria (Arfield, 64), Candeias (Kelly 80), Middleton, Morelos (Sadiq, 55). SUB NOT USED: Rudden.
  18. Willie is an intelligent man with a lot of experience in dealing with Asians. Mark Hateley
  19. I think you'd have to be deviant not to enjoy it.
  20. I'd be happier if a Willie Henderson type was representing our club rather than Mark Hateley. Business Development Manger ------------------- One thing that crossed my mind was that for the young Chinese school kids, the name Steven Gerrard won't mean a great deal, unless they start trawling youtube or the like. How time moves on.
  21. Logic suggests he'll want to develop his game and career further, in a better league....and from a business POV, that Liverpool will share that view, either via another loan or a large transfer fee. If we get him back on loan, excellent. But I don't see him as being pivotal to our chances and wouldn't be thinking of allocating a large percentage of our scarce resources towards a fee. He wouldn't be in the group of players I see as pivotal to our chances next season (McGregor, Tav, Goldson & Arfield), a list that needs added to with a couple of bits of productive quality via recruitment (creative midfielder and centre forward). He had a very good season but it's often difficult to repeat it, given the type of player Kent is.
  22. Not quite the wording I would have used but I know what he's getting at
  23. Will Kamara be the New Boumsong ? 10M please ⚽ ....
