[Official] Rangers announce appointment of Patrick Stewart as CEO
buster. replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Full of platitudes and the scripted sound bites. Lacking in any worthwhile substance. Expected in footballers, not in a CEO under the current circumstances. Talked a lot about the football and very little beyond that. Talked of "strong foundations", where does he get that from? He needs to oversee the implementation of them. He made no mention of financial challenges, the elephant in the room. First impression (subject to change depending on actions) is that he hasn't got what we need. -
What a load of tosh. If there is a chance, by definition, it has to be realistic. I have never stated that we are favourites but we definitely have a chance to win a cup-tie against Celtic because we have started to create and score goals. You are free to more or less write off our chances, its only an opinion. You asked who would I bet on. Looking at the odds, Rangers is where the value is.

My Definition of Realism in this particular context. League Championship over 38 games. We were never going to win it this season due to our playing squad, our financial situation and organisational state...all compared with the situation at who was always going to win it. Realism, pure and simple. Cup competition over 90 minutes. We have a chance and your absolute doomsday predictions are for surrender monkeys.
-
All this "who is our biggest goal threats, etc" is basically pish and wind. Clement will select his team and it won't be Dessers up front on his own. What matters on Sunday is: - Real Belief that we can win - Collective Application of game plan - Individual Determination to win duals We do that and see where it takes us. In the season prediction thread, I said second in the league because of where the respective clubs financials/squads are. However for the domestic cups, it was "mibbes aye, mibbes naw". I stay with that prediction. We have a reasonable chance of lifting a trophy on Sunday despite some surrender monkeys wanting to chuck in the towel before KO.

John Robertson is generally a fair pundit. I remember cursing him when watching Rangers 0-2 up on Hearts at Tynecastle, he scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes. First game at Tynecastle was better, watching Derek Parlane score 4 goals in a 2-4 win. Miners strike at the time, 2pm KO. I also remember the Rangers support applauding a Hearts goal against us. We'd already scored 5. Might have been the game that Cooper scored a cracker.

We have been paying players off for decades. It is part of our 21st century DNA and is reflected in our financials. We buy players for top dollar. We expect immediate performance. We too often don't get it. We want an immediate replacement but forget the financial implications.

No, it isn't the case. Read the accounts, it is actually worse than what I have seen reported since the AGM. Worse, because it also includes 4 outgoing loans, eg. any loan fee for Ben Davies. When you compare the 810K to the over 13 million figure spent in the summer window (Connor Barron fee still TBD and paid). Add in the lack of the 5M€ CL play off loss comfort for 24/25, further payments to Hampden, no COVID insurance payment or sale of car park....then the next set of figures 11 months down the line are shaping up to be another major loss.

The administrative staff must be rolling in it 😂

[Official] Rangers announce appointment of Patrick Stewart as CEO

My information is that Barry Ferguson will be revealed as the new Chairman tomorrow and his first act will be to sack Patrick Stewart and appoint himself as CEO. Insiders say they are happy that someone who knows what the expectation levels are all about at Rangers will have so much responsibility. They expect an immediate change in fortunes on and off the field with no reason to worry about finance. When asked about the upcoming transfer window, the words sink, kitchen and warchest were all used. -

Sterling injured again. Just as well that we have a player who has been almost constantly available for nearly 10 years. -

You could say that of professional footballers in general. However, they (including Dessers) are human and will be affected if the criticism is sustained and especially if perceived as unreasonable. IMO Dessers has generally done his best and has done so in the face of a lot of very vocal criticism. He has scored more goals than Egil Ostenstad, Jeffers, Beattie and Sebo put together. If asked to play a role that doesn't match his game then better to direct a good chunk of the criticism elsewhere. A lot of the negative vibes around the club have their root in our financial situation.

The squad situation and a very busy schedule means that Tav and Dessers will play a significant part in the coming weeks. Back to the grind today after a European away trip. Don't expect wonderful football. Europe is more important than the domestic. At least it is this season because the league title was never realistic and despite all the noise, I am sure that we'll finish second. European wins bring significant prize money in and personally, are much more satisfying because of prestige and the unknown (how far we can go in competition).
