As per conversation we had on that, priority has to be developing the player for our first team. He has 3 years on his new contract and no time should be wasted. Year 1: First team football, 25 games or so at Championship level. Year 2: Evaluate, possible offer of further extension and inserted into our first team squad (optimistic view) First thing, he has to show he can hold down a first team slot at Ayr, which is more of a challenge than a handful of UCL games.

My XI above would be for a game against Hamilton (A)......Aribo was difficult to leave out. You could probably select 3 or 4 different sides/formations and you'd be confident of them doing a job. Results point towards an away trip to Luxembourg 3 days prior to our opening league game. Shouldn't be a disadvantage given Kilmarnock will most probably be playing in Belgrade that same Thursday !!

In the short-term, I'd say not necessarily but if rumours about this deal are accurate then we'll almost certainly need significant incoming transfer cash to be able to spend on a quality centre forward. The logical and simple asumption would then be... Morelos OUT for significant money, new forward IN for significant money....and probably another forward IN but for a much smaller fee, perhaps a loan. Medium-term we'd need to be cutting cloth to pay for what would be more front loading unless we were to make real money in Europe for both of the next two seasons.

We have a decent squad but for a title challenge IMO we are still short of two quality players, a central defender and a centre forward. It's a lot to do with mentality and not allowing silly points to go astray. The game at Kilmarnock will give us a better idea of where we are.

Given circumstances, I could partly understand the short-term nature of it, if Kent was much better than any other option,... but I really think Jones is ready to make the slot his and defensively, if you set-up with Kamara, Jack and Davis it would help balance any defensive deficit on the part of Jones compared to Kent. IMO Jones is the type of player (as is Ojo) who could really come on a bundle this year.
