  1. 'Get behind him. In tight!' Damn you autocorrect!
  2. Isn't there usually a commitment to wear the third strip a certain number of times a season in an effort to get folk to buy it? Third strip's always a wee bit random by very nature as they're required to have little to do with the club's main colours by definition.
  3. Eustace is a specialist in the role and, longer term, Jordan Thompson might well be suited to the to the role (though I freely concede I've not seen a lot of the kid). But I'm pretty sure Halliday could sit deeper if he was asked to. So my guess is that MW just isn't that bothered about it at this stage.
  4. The Scotland midfield is, or should be, pretty strong so Halliday and Holt will have to wait. Should be strong enough for Brown, who's been pretty fuqing ordinary throughout his Celtic career to be punted. They'll all get there soon enough though: with the precedent set by the Celtic players, it's clear that a good run in Europe is not a prerequisite for selection.
  5. I'm not too worried and rather we didn't sign players for the sake of it. I also like MW's emphasis on a making sure there's a viable route to the first team for those not playing. Defence looks a wee bit light though. Simultaneous injuries to Wallace and Halliday would make left back a problem and we've only got one back-up centre back. Can we just promote from the kids or are we limited to the named squad until January, champions league-style? And who's playing left back for young uns at the moment? Look a prospect?
  6. So in a perfect world, Waghorn would be three inches taller and score 25 a season? We don't have the money for Drogba ten years younger so Waghorn will do to be going on with.
  7. The 'whit aboot Murray and the HMRC' line is missing the point to the extent to which it looks like deliberate obfuscation, imho.
  8. The were doubling up on Tavernier rather more effectively than on Wallace on Saturday but, over the season so far, he's been charging forward and leaving huge gaps for the centre backs to cover. I agree with you but it's clearly his strategy. You could see MW waving players forward late on in the game on Saturday.
  9. Reported to have signed for Hibs.
  10. The full backs are spending an awful lot of time upfield and it is leaving us exposed at the back. Not sure Wallace is any more guilty of that than Tavernier. Robertson looks similar but better than Wallace but don't see why he can't make the squad in time. But he's got a lot to do after a poor 2014-15 season and it's going to be hard until we're promoted and maybe even until he gets a some Europe games under his belt.
  11. 'Rank' predates J Arthur Rank. Usually used to refer to a rotten on bad smell ('the air was rank with the smell of the Celtic')but also to something bad ('that is rank disobedience'). However 'having a J Arthur' was once a popular piece of Cockney rhyming slang for onanism (aka 'a Barclays'). More importantly, I don't think McGregor was rank. He did a solid job in a team that seemed to be giving up around him, mostly at right back which wasn't his preferred position. He had his limitations and understand that MW is after somethign different in his defenders but, as far as last season's team goes,McGregor was one of the least of our problems.
  12. Good to get Zaliuskas off the books though if his move is at the same speed as he plays he could still be at Ibrox at Christmas
  13. I liked him but he's obviously not MW's cup of tea. If he's not going to play then there's no point in him hanging around: best of luck to him (though not too much if he goes to Hibs or St M.)
  14. If this kid is as good a prospect as he's reputed to be, I seriously can't see any negatives from this deal and am struggling to comprehend why anyone does.
  15. Zaliukas, Templeton and Shiels in particular would be hard to shift. They clearly haven't been hankering after first team football as they're still here. Ideally we be punting anyone who's not going to feature now or in the future but easier said than done.
  16. There was less fuss when Kanchelskis stood on the ball. And that was disrespectful.
  17. The full backs seem to spend most of their time up the pitch which leaves the centre backs exposed. Eustace is presumably supposed to address that but the strategy is, at the moment, to go for it. Halliday or one of the other midfielders could sit and screen the defence a bit but MW seems not to be too bothered at the moment.
  18. Decent player who wanted to come to us and isn't going to get the chance. Timing wasn't right. A shame but it happens. But it's not like we've missed out on the next Platini. A transfer saga that long since stopped being about his value as a player. Glad it looks like it's over and everyone can focus on getting on with more important stuff.
  19. It's almost as if Andy Cameron was just a bit simple and likes hanging around the boardroom. From reading FF, I now know him to be an evil, scheming, Machiavellian mastermind.
  20. It's very difficult to tell. Warburton's not renowned as a big spender--wasn't an option for him at a club like Brentford anyway and I'd have thought that was a fairly major part of his attraction to our board.
  21. But they were completely different. I'm not saying how but they were. Very, very different indeed. Couldn't be more different. Not the same in any way at all. Tom made that perfectly clear.
  22. I can understand why he's being signed: leadership; calming influence; defensive screen. Derby's season fell away badly after his injury so, if he's fit (and the amount of time they've been spending checking his knee suggests it's ok) has clearly still got plenty to offer on the pitch. You also get the impression MW wants him almost as much for his influence on the rest of the squad in training etc. At his age, he's not going to play every minute of every game though. You could see him doing his coaching badges while he's here.
  23. big dumpling but does seem to have an eye for goal. SPL and no better, IMHO
  24. You make it sound like it's just a heidless, adrenaline-driven cavalry charge forwards when it's clearly not. There's a very clear plan to move the ball quickly, to play forward when possible, and create chances, and, when we don't have it, to get it back quickly. Perhaps not Barca, who are unique (they seem to play the 'wrong' pass the whole time: most worry about space but they don't seem to need it), but it doesn't look a million miles off what Chelsea do, for instance. If executed well, the formation should be effective at switching from defense to attack quickly and vice versa.
  25. What struck me from the footage is the tempo. Don't mean players running fast but the way the ball is being moved around and especially forwards. Arbroath looked completely overwhelmed by it. A real pace and 'zip' to the passing which is something we were absolute gash at recently.
