  1. This sort of thing happens to wealthier teams than us: if Barca lose 16 year olds, there's really not a lot we can do to stop it. We can build a clear pathway to the first team , a reputation as a good place to develop and sell them the idea of faster progress to first team football but the lure of the premier league and of money is hard to fight.
  2. Studs up lunge which, if it was any later would've caught Miller on his way home. Can't seriously see what's even slightly controversial about it.
  3. I enjoy it. They're funnier than most and quite astute. Besides which, the football often plays second fiddle to homoerotica.
  4. mostly just a couple of blokes talking Rangers in an atmosphere of barely repressed sexual tension.
  5. I'm not at all doomsy. This was always going to take a bit of patience.
  6. What's FdB going to do with Warburton's budget? Probably wouldn't know where to start.
  7. of course. But I could have added that I didn't think he had his feet off the ground either. Didn't think Kiernan's tackle was in the same category as the others at all
  8. Kiernan took the ball, didn't he? S McD wan't even close.
  9. as usual, we need to create enough chances to win three or four games to win one
  10. Miller gets Waghorn off the hook!
  11. Shit. Makes life interesting
  12. And it turns out bugger all is happening...
  13. And I wouldn't disagree with that. But I'm less convinced we'll suddenly get a massive uptick in the calibre of player just by shopping in Ukraine or Bosnia. Until such a time as we sort our finances out (and probably after that) we'll need to get used to the idea of polishing rough diamonds as well as polishing turds.
  14. With the state of our finances, we'll get is what's left after everyone else has looked at and doesn't want. Scouting in Togo or Uzbekistan is being presented by some as a magic bullet that will resolve our predicament--champions league aspirations with a Conference budget. Of course there's always the chance of a gem but ultimately, we'll get what we pay for. I keep hearing we've had bad value from the english leagues recently. I disagree. If we spend the same sort of money in Eastern Europe or Ghana, we'll end up with a very similar outcome: players with talent but flaws or honest triers lacking quality.
  15. Why? They're hardly undiscovered leagues, are they? The African Cup of Nations will be hoaching with scouts, Madrid have signed a kid from the Swedish league. And anybody who's watched the A League for any time will know it's mostly absolutely fuqing terrible but that good prospects will be snapped up: Man City's owners even have a club in the A league. We should look for players everywhere we can but the idea that there's all these world class players who've stayed mysteriously hidden from everyone else and we can pick up for no money is surely a pipe dream.
  16. Thought we were ok too. Neat and tidy and but it all goes to buggery in the penalty area. That they had nine men behind the ball and were well organised defensively is only a partial excuse. But it would have been an absolute mugging if it ended in anything other than a win for us.
  17. £6m would be a great price, especially given the rumours of a £2m buy-out clause in his contract. It'll be a wrench but no way are we going to knock that sort of money back.
  18. If so, I hope we can at least loan him back to until the summer. There's no way we can knock back that sort of money and, whilst I'd be desperately sad to see him go, if we were to get that, I'd be very pleasantly surprised (there was mutterings of a £2m buy-out). But it's going to take a while for us as a support to come to terms with losing all our best prospects long before they peak.
  19. Keep up! You're too late: we've signed two loanees already. Besides which, we're another injury or two away from significant problems, especially in midfield.
  20. The forum needs an option for 'Oleg wants Bearman to get tae fuq for ruining his breakfast with this nightmarish post'
  21. So, judging from that, he gobs profusely and can't finish Actually seems a useful addition. Presumably brought in to do the job originally earmarked for Krancjar?
  22. If I was a striker, I would be claiming for it. But I shouldn't be bloody getting it! At very worst, it's shoulder-to-shoulder and it's probably a foul on the defender. Thompson is an absolute fucking trumpet.
  23. If he's been bumped for not supporting efforts to make the Champions League a closed shop then I suppose that's principled. However, it also means that he's opposed it in a cackhanded manner that's got others offside. Or maybe it's nothing to do with that and it's just that, after three years, they've realised what a useless bastard he is.
  24. Cadden evidently has a bit of quality but I have honestly never noticed him. I've apparently seen him play this season but had to check back. Never even knew he existed until this thread. Must start paying attention.
  25. Agree it's more about execution than formation. 433 should be flexible enough, quickly shifting to a 451, for eg. But it hasn't been too often. Our wide forwards don't really cover and they can't work out whether they're wingers or forwards. I think they stay too wide but I suspect that they're told to do that to stretch defences. I presume our centre forwards have been dropping deeper to drag centre backs out of position too. But the midfielders and wide players haven't been filling the space vacated consistently. Of course, this is all irrelevant if we pass the ball the way we did at Tynecastle last week.
