  1. Re-read your piece about Colin Jackson. You certainly don't come across as intolerant or extremist - you give the impression of being as infatuated as a schoolgirl with a pop star crush and as well-anchored in your opinions as a straw in the wind. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  2. There's a word for accommodating a range of different views: democracy. It doesn't matter that the likes of you and me disagree. With every member of the club having one vote, any president we elect will have a legitimacy that is entirely absent at the moment. Would you rather have a head of the club who has bought his way to the top table or a president who has been endorsed by a majority of us - and who will be accountable to us? This new 'membership' scheme won't fulfil its potential for a number of reasons, and one of them is that thousands of ordinary Rangers fans have little or no trust in the Rangers board to function in an acceptable manner. As long as we allow the club to be owned by a procession of self-imposed 'custodians', we will be unlikely to see the support pulling in the same direction. And we don't need Ally McCoist or Walter Smith to show us the way forward. To be honest, neither of them have ever shown any initiative in creating a better way to proceed. It's up to us to ditch a culture that sees us frequently ducking responsibility, and instead adopting a new way where the club can pursue excellence with democracy and accountability as essential priorities. 3. I don't need Colin Jackson to tell me what to do. As for the fans, imperfect though we are, I believe in fan ownership. Do you? If not, why not?
  4. They didn't make that up. It's true. How do you feel about clubs which tried to finish Rangers off? Are you ready to forgive and forget? These things run deep. After all that has happened to us, you must surely realise that.
  5. Our club has been through a torrid time in recent years. What ex-player distinguished himself during our crisis? What former player or manager dared to say a bad word against Sir David Murray? What ex-player or former manager provided any kind of leadership for the Rangers support? John Brown tried but his inarticulate efforts fell on deaf ears. These people have had their day in the sun at Rangers, and while we remember them for what they did on the pitch, we should not be depending on them to guide or advise us away from it unless they possess unique talents that will be of some benefit to us - and it's clear after their silence and inaction over the past few years, not a single one of them does. Within the Rangers support, flawed as it is, we have a far greater depth of talent than is available to us from a rather small pool of former players and ex-managers. We're grown men and women, for goodness sake - let's leave the hero worship to the youngsters. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  6. I detest kick-offs this early. The matchday is traditionally much more than just the match, and timings like this detract from the day out and even put far-travelled fans off attending.
  7. I think most people would broadly agree with that.
  8. The way I see it is this. BuyRangers is about fan ownership. Rangersfirst is about fan ownership lite. So it's BuyRangers for me.
  9. Deleted - wrong thread.
  10. He shouldn't be anywhere near a Rangers jersey, but the guy picking the team thinks otherwise. McCoist will do what he has to do to keep him in his plans when we are back in the top tier.
  11. Put money on McCulloch being selected for the team when we return to the top tier - if McCoist is still manager.
  12. Ex-players and managers are the last people fans should be looking to when it comes to the wellbeing of their clubs. Between them, they usually have a limited education, are not noted for being particularly bright, and have been a part of the status quo for so long that they are unlikely to ever challenge it, even if they knew how to do so. How many ex-players and former managers ever dared to challenge or undermine David Murray? When did a footballer last impress anyone with his vision and plans to make football a more democratic and accountable sport? Being good at football earns them our plaudits. Once their football careers are over, they are no better than the rest of us - and may indeed be a lot worse. Give up with the adulation. They earned it when it was merited. It isn't merited any more.
  13. Quite possibly. This was said on here the other day by one of this site's contributors - who generally comes across as an intelligent guy - but intelligence can still give way to hero worship. This is what he said: "Finally, highlight of the day for me, this day and pretty much any day of the last 20 years - I spent 3 hours sitting next to, and discussing Rangers, with Colin Jackson...nothing anyone said about CIC's could top that. I said to the great man on leaving that it was an honour to chat with him and I meant it. If this scheme is going to work, I think it will need legends who pulled on the Blue Shirt to front it up: if Colin Jackson said go for it, I probably would; likewise Walter Smith, say, or Sandy Jardine. No matter what age we are we still idolise our heroes...maybe we need to call on them to do yet more service in the cause."
  14. Yes, we do indeed - I've made this point myself - but are we effectively admitting or suggesting that we are a backward support if we lack self-belief and have no willingness to try a more democratic way? Is there something fundamentally wrong with us that we would rather beg for a rich man to come in than work together constructively to build a better future?
  15. I don't know, but an answer is required. For all the stick that fan groups get, they provide a service for the entire support when they take the club to task on issues like this. They can put pressure on the club in a way that individuals mostly cannot. Instead of this issue being ignored or forgotten about, the club is now under pressure to come up with a convincing answer - and that's good.
  16. It's not a crime to borrow, but is very misleading to make the statement already highlighted in my previous post, and then start borrowing two months later. We also need to be told exactly what it is costing as well as the consequences of a repayment in shares - if this is the intent.
  17. It does indeed. A full explanation is required.
  18. Not two months after saying this: "In the short-to-medium term there is sufficient cash within the club in order for it to continue trading on a normal basis."
  19. The Rangers Supporters Association, Assembly and Trust have contacted the CEO Graham Wallace to ask for clarification on the proposed loan by directors and/or selected shareholders. It is of great concern that at the club's AGM in December 2013 Graham advised there was sufficient cash in the business for the club to be able to continue to trade in the short to medium term yet two months later we require a loan for working capital. We would also like assurances that the club have explored all options for attracting fresh investment and this is the best deal available to the club. On the day that the club launched a survey on listening to fans they have ignored shareholding fans overwhelming opposition to resolutions 9 & 10 at the club AGM. Resolution 9 seems to be being used to increase the influence of certain shareholders without affording the same option to others, which is an affront to shareholder democracy and rights.
  20. The highlighted part now looks to have been misleading. He may not have meant to mislead anyone, but just two months on we need a crisis loan to stay afloat. Between this and trying to get the players to agree a wage cut - an extremely naive move which did more harm than good - he has had a very disappointing start in the job. 21. It's probably true that most fans would love to see Dave King stepping in and taking the responsibility that we don't seem to want, but why is this? What is it that makes us as soft and gullible as you suggest? Apathy may play a part in our difficulties, but if you are right, our problems go much, much deeper. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  22. That's quite a statement. Are we too thick, too afraid or are we incapable of taking responsibility due to a particular cultural aspect of our identity?
  23. Let's hope that this is the first of many new initiatives aimed at popularising BuyRangers.
  24. To invest in BuyRangers, it is necessary to belong to the RST. I believe it is a legal requirement. An RST membership costs £10 a year.
