Football fans, Premier League managers and former players have been left furious by the sport's rulemakers' decision to introduce a 'blue card' to trial ten minute sin-bins, with some saying they game is finished.
Arsenal legend Paul Merson blasted the idea as a 'waste of time' saying it will kill the game and create the 'most boring football ever'.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, Everton's Sean Dyche, and Crystal Palace's Roy Hodgson are among the Premier League managers to have previously voiced their opposition to 'blue cards'.
While fans have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to air their anger accusing the 'rich' of 'stealing our beautiful game' and being left baffled by the pointless move.
It'll add further irritation to fans and some managers who are already annoyed by the the governing body's struggles and use of VAR, with Premier League chief Tony Scholes admitting yesterday the technology still needs fixing five years on since it was first introduced.
The International Football Association Board is set to announce the move on Friday, according to The Telegraph, which would allow referees to send players off for ten minutes for dissent and cynical fouls.

Watching Rangers now is becoming a pleasure again some it looks like the new manager has told them some home truths but the one that impresses me most is McCausland don't forget he's only a lad but he's not scared to take opponents on take some punishment from defenders yep I like him and he's going to get better.

No excuses a poor goal to lose after a decent first half but we're not being clinical up front let's hope our finishing improves in the second half .

One disappointing thing was we had nothing in stock to sell for a crazy amount of money but that's not the manager's fault we could do with ..buying cheap and selling for lots and lots of lovely money .

Aberdeen will be cockahoop after Saturday and will fancy their chances it’s going to be a bruising ninety minutes I suspect the referee might have to sharpen his pencil at half time.

I was at the Western end of the North stand, so right behind it. Only two other Hampden strikes rival it, for me: Cooper's free-kick in the '87 Skol Cup Final and Barry Ferguson's free-kick in the Lovenkrands Cup Final.
John Grieg’s against Italy in 65 was a fair o.ld shot .

To make @compo greet.
1955 FA Cup Final, Newcastle United v Manchester City (I thought City only got invented five years ago)
3-1 United and four Scottish Internationalists on the park, Jimmy Scoular, Bobby Mitchell and Ronnie Simpson (uncapped at the time) for United and Bobby Johnstone, City. Johnstone scored with a header. United defence should have been ashamed.
City won the 1956 Final, Johnstone scored again.
I was told this by a former Hibs captain when Simpson and Stein were at Easter Road Stein never took to him as a goalie hence he got rid of him then both ended up at Parkhead and the rest as they say is history, it’s a funny old game as Greavsie used to say .
