I suspect I have related this tale on Gersnet before?

Nuremberg'67 arrived after the horror of Berwick Rangers. Rangers Chairman, John Lawrence demanded scapegoats and, Jim Forrest, George McLean and, Alec Willoughby were all transferred out of the club. Scot Symon was desperate to find a striker. In those days, Rangers had a third eleven that played in the Combination League, youngsters were toughened, injured older players got a run out, Mr Trialist and Newman appeared regularly against Rolls Royce, Weirs Pumps, ........... etc. Eight or nine days before the ECWC Final, Rangers thirds were due to play Glasgow Corporation Transport ie a team of bus drivers, bus conductors, mechanics, underground personnel, ............... etc.

The game took place at Helenvale Park in Parkhead. Rangers fielded a side with Roger Hynd at centre forward, he scored six goals in a 2-8 victory. Scot Symon had found his striker the next week?

    True story.

Every manager has his sell by date and i'am afraid Mr Symon and his record was first clas should have been removed from front line duties after Berwick

I may get slaughtered for this but can it really be argued that it would be better than the achievement of being the first British team to win the Euro Cup in 1967? That same year we also got to a Euro final and should have won it if we hadn't had to have Roger Hynd at CF. Scotland also beat the world champions at Wembley so it was a vintage year for Scottish football. You have a very valid point about the financial disparity though.

Certainly not their achievement is up there with splitting the atom or the discovery of penicillin or man walking on the moon if only we would have had a centre forward that night in Nurenburg instead of big Rodger up top .

I get that but there is no point comparing today's European football with 50 years ago. They are two completely different scenarios. Back then you could win the European Cup by getting a decent draw and effectively playing 9 matches. We've played 18 games in Europe this season. Back then the financial disparity between leagues was smaller compared to the chasm that exists between the top leagues and us today. Dunfermline getting to a euro semi final proved that.

These day's you can win Europe's top prize and not even be good enough to win your domestic title ,bring back the old knock out system I know that whenever happen because the television companies call the shots

  4. Average because the opposition in Scotland is so poor in Europe we've probably overarching but I will accept that .

Being of the older generation I remember when teams from Scotland always did well I the three European tournaments

At least Klopp and the Liverpool fans are complaining about the ticket set up for these events.  Not that it'll make a blind bit of difference...

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has questioned why almost half the tickets for the Champions League final against Real Madrid are not allocated to the clubs.

Klopp's side face the Spanish giants on 28 May and have 19,618 tickets to sell.

That is 26.1% of the 75,000 capacity on the night at Paris' Stade de France.

Klopp said: "Is it right that we only get 20,000, they get 20,000 and there's 75,000 in? That makes 35,000 left over. Where are these tickets?"

You have to keep the sponsors on side plus the hangers on no doubt we will have our once in ten year supporters at the final
