I suspect I witnessed one of Jimmy Millar's last game for Rangers?

It was the 1966 Scottish Cup final replay. Of course, King Kai was that particular evening's hero with his 25 yard pile driver; but I remember my Old Man becoming most excited when Jimmy was named in the starting eleven. To an eight year old Primary schoolboy, Jimmy appeared most sturdy.

When we scored some nutter through my good hat up in the air never seen it again

  2. Surely they can’t play any worse than our last game a win is a must along with a good all round team performance for ma wee boost for the return against the Belgians .

saying that this is Rangers and our defence is crap the only way to win the ball is put in a tackle not this backing off so go on put in some good clean hefty tackles and stop defending like Nancy boys

Defenders have been marking forwards since time immemorial. It’s up to the attacking midfield (inside forwards we used to call them) to make the space. One way is to beat a man and draw another, like Laudrup or, like McMillan, rifle a long pass between defenders. The forwards must anticipate what their team mate is likely to do (that’s what training’s for) and run into the space before the cover is organised. All of these skills need talent, though. If it’s not there, not much you can do but hope.

All the above mentioned qualities have been coached out of players now the play like robots when we all know what’s needed a little bit of individual skill and players like dear old Ralph who ran into spaces that defenders never knew existed we could be in for a dire season if this tripe continues
