Gareth Bale new contract 361.360 GBP per week after tax
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to pete's topic in General Football Chat
I have absolutely no issue with the top people of any field getting huge money. Gareth Bale is one such player and genuinely world class. What's obscene is the money a lot of the Premiership players make. Wayne Rooney earns almost as much as Bale does! Oh and James Vardy on £100K.....say no more. -
We should never have been in the position where the vote was possible. Did we honestly expect them to vote in our favour?
-
We hardly had much competition either.

England vs Scotland will be shown live on STV

That team wouldn't look out of place in mid table in the Championship. It's a sorry state of affairs. -
Wallace the latest snub coming.
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to MacK1950's topic in General Football Chat
No, I don't think Wallace is anything resembling 'great'. All things considered I think he's a pretty average footballer and a wildly inconsistent one at that. -

Ser Barristan Selmy replied to MacK1950's topic in General Football Chat
I don't think this is much of a snub. Wallace isn't that great. -
We were head and shoulders above Celtic in our cup match and destroyed Dundee too. I don't think there's that huge a difference between the divisions. Certainly not between the lower teams in this league and the upper ones in the second anyway. Our style has just completely fallen apart this season: the pace is pedestrian, the flowing passing moves are largely gone, we're extremely predictable and just don't have the same cohesion on the park. We've made poor signings to the detriment of the side and we're just nothing like the exciting, vibrant, high tempo side of last season. Put it this way, if the side we had a year ago was playing in this division right now, there is no way they'd be languishing in 5th place.
-
You must agree we were far better last season in pretty much every department? It's like watching two completely different teams.
-
I haven't seen anyone on here saying they want a change of manager. That doesn't mean he's immune from criticism, however. You talk about long term future, but the regression we have seen this season doesn't bode well for that. The fact of the matter is we are performing way below the standard required and that needs to be rectified.
-
And that's all that needs to be said on the matter. It's a simple fact.
-
Not underperforming? 4 wins from 10 in the league...absolutely dismal.

There is no distinction between the players a manager signs, coaches and selects; and the manager himself. I'm not really sure how many times I need to say this.

Latest Joey Barton news: Remains suspended
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Is this really still an issue? A whole lot of commotion about a 34 year old whose barely kicked a ball for us and looks like has has nothing left to offer. -
Are Hearts not in a similar position? They're above us in the league with a fraction of the resources. We're so far off Celtic that I almost don't really care how we do against them. Yes, it's difficult looking so poor against them, but it's to be expected. When it comes to the rest though, we shouldn't be having many problems. The other Scottish sides are dreadful.
-
Saying 'we have no money' might ring true if we're talking about challenging Celtic, but we've spent a fortune compared to the rest. We've had a dismal start to the season and the manager needs to turn things around fast. We're now almost in November and I've been saying this for months now.

Is the Warburton magic starting to fade?
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Crikey, the idea of McLeish being in charge again sends shivers up my spine. I think given his employment status people have finally cottoned on that the guy just shouldn't be in management at all. -

I have never been so convinced that a signing is destined to fail. -

Anything lower than second is completely unacceptable. If he can't finish second then he isn't good enough. Do Aberdeen have a single player they spent a transfer fee on? That's the level we're up against. -

He has been a massive disappointment this season and I'm struggling to see many positives anymore. However, I think the alternative would be worse. Managing a mediocre Scottish side with no money isn't an attractive proposition to any half decent manager. I think we'd end up with some poor SPL manager so I'll stick with Warburton for now... He's also not had much to spend...though the money he has spent has been spent poorly. Garner is a terrible, bizarre signing. -
Souness calls on Rangers to splash the cash
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to JFK-1's topic in Rangers Chat
A 29 year old who scored 6 goals the season before in the English second tier. Given how skint we are, this goes down as one of our worst ever signings. -
Iniesta is the second best player in the world as far as I'm concerned and has been so for a long time. Messi is obviously first,

Time to right a few wrongs - Rangers v Celtic
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
The board are going to need to find some sort of investment fast. Signing poor players is going to cost us much more in the long run. We need to be developing players and punting them to the EPL like Celtic do. We are unlikely going to find such players by spending peanuts in the English lower leagues. -
Chris Burke scores first ever goal for Ross County!
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to JFK-1's topic in General Football Chat
Yeah, he did show a lot of early promise, but it faded away. I was surprised to see him do well in England. Perhaps poor management/coaching on our part. I remember there being real excitement when he burst onto the scene. He did look phenomenally talented and I can remember him coming on as a sub at Ibrox in his early career and there being real excitement in the crowd. -
1 win from their last 6 league games and he's spent a fortune. That suggests to me there must have been lots of superior options. Mourinho is a hugely talented manager, but for whatever reason it just doesn't click for him at all anymore. I was always a huge fan of Mourinho, though not so much of his playing style. If he isn't getting lots of success, then he quickly becomes quite an undesirable proposition. I think he needs to take a bit of time out of the game and try a different league when he returns.
