What are the positives in this situation?
-
Do you remember how dismal we were in his final season?
-
Warburton never went 10 games without a win.
-
The only saving grace is he can sometimes get a bit of a reaction initially from players. Though he doesn't seem to have done that for a while. Anyway, I won't be back at Ibrox until he's gone.
-
He was given plenty money to finish above a team of Lithuanian loanees and to not go months without winning a single game. We were still spending way more cash than we should have been during his era. I would have thought the fact he's been repeatedly sacked since leaving us would make the penny finally drop. He's like McCoist: he just isn't a manager. Mark Warburton has been a disaster this season, but as I said before he was sacked, if the alternative is someone like McLeish then we'd be better off just keeping him. Could you honestly imagine McLeish taking Brentford to the Premier League playoffs? He'd have relegated them.
-
Why not? Our team is way, way worse than it was then.
-
Maybe if someone gives him a team of top internationalists on £30k a week. Winning trophies in Scotland with a squad like that means very little.
-
He'll make things worse.
-
The thing is we already know McLeish is brutal so just what are we doing here? He's then followed it up with: Scotland - did well initially but lost to Georgia and ultimately failed. Birmingham City - relegated twice. Left under a cloud. Aston Villa - almost relegated and sacked. In charge less than a year. Nottingham Forest - sacked after barely a month. Genk - sacked after less than a year. Zamalek - sacked after a couple of months. And we actually WANT this guy back? Deary me.
-
There's not really anything in it.
-
Who would be worse?
-
We probably will.
-
At his worst the football was every bit as bad as it was under McCoist. I would rather we put a scarecrow on the touchline.
-
Yes, he won the league in 04-05 at the last minute. We should be winning leagues though. It's a 2 team league so we're bound to win the league a lot. With Klos, Ricksen, Boumsong, Arveladze, Prso, Lovenkrands etc was it really much of an achievement? Even if wages had been cut, we still had a team of internationalists all being paid a fortune. McLeish has proven consistently that he is a woeful manager. Just look at his record since leaving us. Nobody half decent is interested in him anymore.
-
If we do go with McLeish then the board have completely lost the plot and are not the correct people to be taking us forward. Having McLeish at the helm is every bit as damaging as any lopsided retail deal, if not more so. I honestly can't believe we are considering this., It's insane.
-
Eh? He won the treble with Advocaat's team.
-
I would crawl over broken glass to get De Boer if McLeish is the alternative. However, we have been stung before by seemingly good managers like Warburton and PLG so we need to tread carefully.
-
Yeah, he did well with Advocaat's all stars initially, then things went completely tits up. Some of his achievements: - Record consecutive losses to Celtic. - 2 and and half months without a victory - Knocked out by Viktoria Zizkov in Europe with a team containing Klos, Amoruso, Ferguson, Arteta, Numan, De Boer etc. - Third in the SPL with a squad on big money, below a team of Lithuanians. - Numerous awful signings like Capucho, Emerson, Ostenstad, Mladenovic etc. All players on a fortune. - Brutal football once he had his own players. - Has been a complete disaster and repeatedly sacked ever since. Last season failing in Egypt! Honestly, the day he left was one of the happiest days of my life. Our support have such short memories. Why not just get Ally back? There really is no difference.

Frank De Boer left Ajax after they fell apart in their final season and then got sacked from Inter. He may sound 10 times better than any other candidate, but I'm not completely convinced about his managerial abilities. If he ended up 17 points off the top in Holland, how will he do in Scotland with a fraction of the resources that Celtic have? Winning the league with a club like Ajax doesn't necessarily count for much, so I'm a little in the dark whether he's a genuine talent as a manager or not. If the alternative is a Scottish manager though, sign him up.

What condition has Warburton left us in?

What football structure is in place? Specifically? -

Don't see any young players coming through, the football recently has been poor, our squad is worth nothing, a good chunk of our team is loans (dead money) and veterans. Not a good state at all. -
Warburton has been a complete failure this season and there are absolutely no excuses. We can dream on with the likes of Gio, though that sort of manager is what we should be going for. Albeit someone more realistic. It's inevitable we're going to end up with some garbage Scottish manager and with no money to spend it's likely going to be a depressing time ahead. And if it's McLeish I will not be back. P.S. the problem with any foreign manager is they'll look for certain infrastructure to be in place and I'm not sure we're any further forward than we were in previous years. A well run club will lose its manager/coach and nothing really changes. With us everything falls apart because for my entire life time we have been an abysmally run boom and bust club.

If we'd been playing with any style this season we wouldn't be 3rd in the league and 27 points behind the tims.
