Why Rangers should close the gap without spending heavily
Ser Barristan Selmy replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
With the greatest of respect, I saw you recently talking up Scottish football as a viable alternative to the English Premier League for a prospective DOF. You can choose to live in an idealistic bubble, but I'll choose to live in the real world. We are garbage just now and there's little to be positive about. This is the worst Rangers side I have ever seen aside from Ally's donkeys and no reasonably minded person could argue otherwise. Life is a cycle of swings and roundabouts though, so I've no doubt at some point things will change again and we'll be the ones in the ascendancy. I don't see any plan in place for this to happen, but it will at some point. -

It's not misleading. -

I don't visit our forums much anymore but one moment he's Thibaut Courtois and the next he's a donkey. Personally, I think he's an average keeper who isn't worth very much in the grand scheme of things. Given the illustrious line of fine keepers we have had in modern times, I don't think he's much to write home about. Define hefty? He's a very decent player but we're not going to get a big fee for him any time soon. Who on earth said we wouldn't finish in the top 6? A sea of tims? Gerry McNee? Finishing anything below second is hilariously pathetic. We're RANGERS ffs! We're spending far more than everyone else, Celtic apart. This is a positive? The manager the board appointed failed and they got rid of him when we were already third in a two team league? You do? He's had one game. He's a bizarre appointment with no track record in European football, but let's hope for the best on this one. I would hope so too. It's of limited worth when we're third in the league and 33 points behind the tims though. They're welcome to contribute. -

Correct, it was. I'm sorry, what are the positives? We're 33 points behind Celtic. I really have nothing more to add. -

If you can't answer the question then fair enough. -

I'm not trolling. We're 8 points behind Aberdeen and 33 behind Celtic. -
International break - depressing

Strachan's last chance? Tbh I think our squad is so bad and there's such a lack of decent Scottish managers that the SFA just see no point sacking him. We should be looking at another manager but until we can start bringing through a few decent Premier League level players like we used to we're not going anywhere fast. I've lost all interest in our national side. We need to do our bit and start producing some homegrown talent that can be used. -

Before I answer this, do you think Celtic are a bigger club than us? Edit: What? Monkeys is exactly what they are. -

They backed Warburton pretty well in comparison to Hearts and Aberdeen. Objectively for a club of our size? We spent peanuts and we got monkeys. -
Rangers set to complete Darren Fletcher deal

Surely that's not true . What a bizarre recruitment policy that would be. They aren't even the best 4 players. -

I don't think we need to worry about spending heavily. -
Gazza wouldn't be anywhere near a top Premiership XI as much as I love him.

Man Utd have scored less goals than Bournemouth this season in the league! Hilarious stat.

Lol...just lol. So if the Polish cleaner at my work got the job would I be a hypocrite for criticising his appointment? Jesus Christ, mate. Also, where did I actually say we have to go for a foreign manager? I couldn't care less where a manager is from. All I said I didn't want was some run of the mill shitty manager like McLeish, McCall et al. -

This is exactly like when you complained about me not wanting Eck, despite wanting a manager with a track record of challenging for trophies. If someone wants a foreign manager, that doesn't mean they want any foreign manager. Are you being deliberately facetious when you oversimplify things like this? -

I have no idea about any of that. I just know that this appointment looks like an April fool's joke. -

I couldn't really care less what or whom picked our manager. The fact is he's a bizarre choice who has no track record of success in European football. I only hope the board know something that I don't about this chap. We aren't a club known for unearthing unknown gems in any capacity so let's just hope this is the exception. I think we're going to be looking for another manager soon though. -

1. Why is it baseless? 2. Which managers is it better than? 3. He was last managing in Qatar, which I'm sure even you will agree is not a high standard. And if you have any argument to articulate regarding the quality of the Mexican league, I am all ears. -

This is a Rangers forum. I think bemusement is the appropriate response based on this fellow's CV. Would we want a footballer whose been at the clubs he has? -

Why would you want Jose if you think he's finished? -
Does anyone have the inside story? Is there more to this than meets the eye? I will be absolutely stunned if this guy is still here in 2 years.

I would have thought the talented managers out there wouldn't be among the applicants. I doubt Guardiola, Mourinho, Conte et al have ever had to apply for many jobs. Pedro was the best applicant? Good for him. Was Brendan Rodgers an 'applicant' at Celtic or did they chase him?

Can you not just try and be objective and look at the facts for once?
