Something about the purchase of shares makes me doubt the socialist credentials of BuyRangers and Rangers First.

Some people will have valid reasons to prefer one scheme over another. If there is a choice then more people will get involved. There is nothing difficult or confusing about this.

I read this touching news story today. It reminded me that football has this wonderful power to transform otherwise empty lives. As I read it I began to feel myself losing control of my emotions and I started to weep. When I reached the end of the story I was so emotionally drained that I felt extremely nauseous.

Dr Waiton on Rangers, Free Speech and Sectarianism
ranger_syntax replied to ThatsWhyWeirChamps's topic in Rangers Chat
If only polytheism had better lions to throw the Christian to, er, wait . . . Seriously though, you find plenty evidence of intolerance from pagans, polytheists et cetera in the ancient world and if you look around you find an increasingly intolerant streak of atheism. You also don't need to look far to find tolerant monotheists so I would say that there are plenty of ifs, ands and buts to consider before one makes such a sweeping generalisation. As for the secular thing, I hate to break it to you guys, the Monarch is the head of the Church of England. We also have Bishops in the House of Lords. Apart from R.C. schools we also have, in my experience, regular visits from a minister in the so called non-denominational schools. It is going to be increasingly secular but it's not yet. -

Why should anyone think that an academic either is or ought to be neutral? -

I'm not sure I understand your point. What does embarrassing, anti-social, loutish behaviour and public urination have to do with OBAF? -
Hugh Keevins: Celtic and Rangers are conning fans......
ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Agreed and I hope all Rangers fans see it that way. The problem for Hugh is that his point depends on the idea that there are some Rangers fans who actually believe that both trebles have equal status. All Rangers fans that I know can count to three. No Rangers fans that I know have ever indicated that the treble we could win this year is of the same status as the treble. What I am most eager to discover is how enjoyable it will be to find ourselves celebrating a Scottish cup win to complete this lesser treble. -

ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I wouldn't count them alongside the more prestigious treble. Nothing is going to get around the fact that there are three of them though. Might also be interesting to know if anyone has ever won three trophies that was not [Premiership, Scottish cup, League cup]. For example the Glasgow cup* might be counted in a treble if not the treble. Look at this awful page, which at the time of posting at least, refers to a 'quintuple' that includes the Glasgow cup. *I gather that this was a more serious affair back in the day. -
Hugh Keevins: Celtic and Rangers are conning fans......
ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
It's quite easy to see why someone would disagree with the following at least. This is just inserted as bait to provoke argument from Rangers fans. It's not a serious point. Winning three trophies is a treble and it doesn't require a great deal of sophistication to acknowledge that [League 1, Scottish cup, Ramsdens cup], although a treble, is not as prestigious as [Premiership, Scottish cup, League cup]. I'm using this word and I'm not having my intelligence insulted. I wonder if Hugh ever described the '98 - '99 season, [European cup, Premiership, FA cup], as a treble for Manchester United? If so would he have refused to describe [Premiership, FA cup, League cup] as a treble thereafter? I think not. -

I am a properly-developed grown-up and I exercise the right to examine the nonsense that I am fed. Most remarkable for a tabloid hack to say something like this. I think I had better direct Hugh to one of my favourite parts of a good book. -
Great news but there were still lots of spare tickets available outside the ground.

Odd reports from Italy. Gattuso coming to Gers!

RST buys 200,000 more shares (Via BuyRangers)
ranger_syntax replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Best to buy the shares when they are not too expensive. When a share issue comes around the Trust will find that more members want to get shares in BuyRangers just like last time.- 66 replies

Supporters Direct chief calls on Rangers fans to unite...
ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Firstly I think we all assume that Dave King is not completely reluctant to buy shares and neither that he refuses to cough up. If you accept that Dave King only wants to buy shares via a new share issue then it's not too difficult to see why fans are warmly disposed to him. The club can use the money if he buys shares through a share issue whereas they can't if he just purchases shares from the market. I'm quite sure you know all this though so I'm not sure why you ask. -
I'm glad that there is no chance of a match with them this season. The rest of the season could be a lot of fun if we can beat some top league teams in the Scottish cup.

Supporters Direct chief calls on Rangers fans to unite...
ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
It is as silly to talk about people trying to destroy the RST as it is to talk about how it should disband. It will exist as long as there are those who want to be members and people willing to run it. There is not a lot that other people can do about it. Sent from my Wasp T12 Speechtool using Tapatalk -

Well, if it gets more fans into fan ownership I might not call it a waste. It looks like someone is going to set up an alternative so I guess we will soon see. -

I'm a member of the RST/BuyRangers and I used to think this too. In fact I couldn't help but scoff when I saw Rangers Unite emerge. There are other ways to structure a fan ownership scheme though. What if some fans wanted to get involved but only in a scheme that was structured differently to BuyRangers? If people want to start something different there is no reason that they can't go ahead and do so. It would give fans a choice of how to get involved. The drawback is that these things don't just appear out of thin air. It needs fans to put in time, effort and expertise. Amid all the criticism of the RST there should probably be some acknowledgement of the fact that it is the only group that has bothered to set up a fan ownership scheme. -

This is what many fans often say. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it misses the point of fan ownership. As Goodwin mentions: -

Did the journalist just imagine this bit? As far as I can tell these groups work together. -
I'd like a director who does not make embarrassing statements and who does not damage the image of the club. I think most Gers fans feel the same.

I have never understood this idea. Why not just buy shares? What's difficult about that?
