  1. We signed a guy called Nicky Clark this summer.
  2. Too late for that. People need to figure out how to adapt to the situation.
  3. Rangers 3 Stenhousemuir 2
  4. I've got mixed feelings about this. We shouldn't be paying that much for a manager in the lower leagues. The problem is what will happen to the money saved. Will it just go towards the salaries of directors and executives?
  5. I saw that post on Follow Follow and thought that it might be the one. It's certainly a stupid thing to post but it's not a threat so I don't understand what the club is reported to be doing.
  6. What would be more dangerous? Why would Ticketus be involved and would that be more problematic than anyone else?
  7. I'm almost certainly guilty of lacking imagination here. Can anyone explain why the identities of the people behind Blue Pitch et al are important? I could understand that if it turned out that Craig Whyte was involved that it would be a problem. Other than him what is important about this?
  8. Ferguson has a point. But in all seriousness the article is almost unbearable to read.
  9. Why assume that McCoist thinks any differently?
  10. I don't think Lee McCulloch is forced into the team at all. I think that he is McCoist's first pick whenever he is available. McCoist had the chance to play him in defensive midfield yesterday, which I think would have given Law more opportunity to go forward, but he didn't. This makes me think that McCoist sees him as a first choice centre back who will play up front if Daly is out. Individually I prefer Faure but I'd bet that McCoist will only play an 'inexperienced' pairing when forced to. The decisions to play Little on the left and Faure on the right were underwhelming but peripheral. I thought that we missed Black and that when he plays Law can go further forward. I think that this is what the big difference was yesterday. Perhaps Peralta should move into the middle in MacLeod's place. This, of course, might upset even more people online.
  11. Why do many Rangers fans think that this is important while many investors do not?
  12. If you pay the licence fee then I think you should complain. I don't so I'll just leave it.
  13. I'm sceptical too but, as you allude, challenging received wisdom is difficult. There are always cases that people will cite like Ajax, Dortmund and Manchester United. Once these anecdotes emerge the debate rarely goes anywhere. A more comprehensive analysis, backed up by the right data, is required for any progress.
  14. Yes, the idea of condemning players to play for one club causes plenty of other problems and I don't think that it will work. I don't think that he is really advocating that though. It wouldn't really fit with the other articles that I've seen on that blog. The suggestion is contained within a conditional statement and I think he raises it only as a contrast to the Financial Fair Play regulations. FFP is believed by many to prevent rich clubs gaining unfair advantage but Soccernomics argues that FFP will only preserve the status of rich teams. I can't speak for the author but if we accept that FFP and abolishing the transfer system are the two best ways to 'level the playing field' then I would be more likely to abandon that aim than implement either idea.
  15. Here is a link to an article by Stefan Szymanski in the Soccernomics blog. http://www.soccernomics-agency.com/?p=529 He presents some data, about the relationship between homegrown talent and success, that may surprise a few people. It is taken to be axiomatic among many that we need to develop home grown players to improve our lot. Is this just received wisdom with no basis in fact?
  16. You're right about Champions League money. It doesn't guarantee success. It's very easy to make bad purchases. We need to learn from what has happened to us and make better use of our resources.
  17. Sadly I think you are right and MacLeod will be dropped for Black and Law. I'm sure he'll still get plenty of time on the pitch though. There are always injuries and suspensions. Perhaps his development will be helped by having to compete for a place in the team.
  18. I think that Clark will play up front with Daly.
  19. Are any other finals going to be played away from Hampden?
  20. Unless anyone knows a reason why we shouldn't take him at his word then I guess we'll have to. The position that McColl/Murray are taking appears to be clearly differentiated from King.
  21. The thought of such an event actually happening is very exciting. I'd hope for McCoist to have a strategy that more focused on more realistic*, or medium term, goals. * I haven't seen how poor that other team is.
  22. How can we tell if they are working together or not?
  23. Developing younger players is what really puts me off of signing Miller. In the case of Jon Daly I think that he will help any young strike partner to develop. If Miller is signed all I can see is that place in the team disappearing.
  24. I think that this sums it up. The mistakes that he is making appear to be down to weakness and people will continue to take advantage of that.
  25. Ally could have kept Kane Hemmings if he wanted another forward. I lost confidence in McCoist last season when it became clear that he couldn't get any more out of the squad and claimed that the problem was a lack of players. Since then I've been won over by most of the performances this season. If Miller is signed I'll be back to having little, maybe no, confidence in McCoist.
