I'm glad that there is no chance of a match with them this season. The rest of the season could be a lot of fun if we can beat some top league teams in the Scottish cup.

Supporters Direct chief calls on Rangers fans to unite...
ranger_syntax replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
It is as silly to talk about people trying to destroy the RST as it is to talk about how it should disband. It will exist as long as there are those who want to be members and people willing to run it. There is not a lot that other people can do about it. Sent from my Wasp T12 Speechtool using Tapatalk -

D'Artagnan: I'm not sure if I understand your post. What is it that you think should be rectified within the RST? -

Well, if it gets more fans into fan ownership I might not call it a waste. It looks like someone is going to set up an alternative so I guess we will soon see. -

I'm a member of the RST/BuyRangers and I used to think this too. In fact I couldn't help but scoff when I saw Rangers Unite emerge. There are other ways to structure a fan ownership scheme though. What if some fans wanted to get involved but only in a scheme that was structured differently to BuyRangers? If people want to start something different there is no reason that they can't go ahead and do so. It would give fans a choice of how to get involved. The drawback is that these things don't just appear out of thin air. It needs fans to put in time, effort and expertise. Amid all the criticism of the RST there should probably be some acknowledgement of the fact that it is the only group that has bothered to set up a fan ownership scheme. -

This is what many fans often say. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it misses the point of fan ownership. As Goodwin mentions: -

Did the journalist just imagine this bit? As far as I can tell these groups work together. -
I'd like a director who does not make embarrassing statements and who does not damage the image of the club. I think most Gers fans feel the same.

I have never understood this idea. Why not just buy shares? What's difficult about that?

Recently I decided that I would like McCoist to be replaced with a better manager(if one is available). I don't agree with all these leaks against him though. If the board want to replace him then they should just go ahead and do it. This may be quite irrational but each time that I see something like this it makes me more likely to back the manager. The board already face an uphill battle with the supporters but do they really think that they can manipulate us and turn us against someone who has put in as much as McCoist?

What is the rationale behind the FIFA rule?

Ok, but I find it difficult to imagine a strategy without an identifiable end. Influence is not an end in itself. After that I'm still sceptical about what means could be applied, to achieve more influence, given the political context we are in at present.

If I understand correctly you are asking if Rangers fans should stop voting for Labour. How should one vote instead and what effect do you think this will have?

Easdale brothers to plough £20m into Rangers

I doubt Smith and Foster will go anywhere. Also it is one thing for a player to be no use in the long term but that doesn't mean you don't want to use them in the short term. I'd be quite happy to see Perry, Cribari and Peralta move on. Apart from that I'm not convinced about the need to cut the playing squad though. Apparently players wages come to 37% of turnover. If so then I think the problem lies elsewhere. Also, is £7m/37% really to much for the top league? If Wallace wants to improve things then I think he is best to keep strict control over the terms for any new players that come in. He could also do something about increasing revenue and cutting off-field costs.

Albion Rovers: Pay what you can
ranger_syntax replied to ranger_syntax's topic in General Football Chat
Yes. There is no end to the silly ideas that people come up with to improve Scottish football but this is a good one. Prices don't necessarily need to be lower but I would like to see teams experiment more than they do. -
Albion Rovers: Pay what you can
ranger_syntax replied to ranger_syntax's topic in General Football Chat
I didn't know about any proposed move away from Cliftonhill but I hope that they persevere. I've not been there but it does look like a bit of a dump. I'd be interested to know what any proposed move away would achieve. It seems to me that teams in the lower divisions have fairly simple requirements. -
Albion Rovers trialled a 'Pay what you can' initiative this week and it looks like it was a success. Hopefully more Scottish clubs will take notice and try innovative ways to improve attendances. http://albionroversfc.com/?p=4368 http://albionroversfc.com/?p=4383 I doubt a similar idea could work at Ibrox but I'd like to see them experiment with lower prices in unpopular parts of the ground.

The same logic could be applied to the support in general. We profess to care about the club, express a desire to choose the board yet don't buy many shares. The share price is the same for the support as it is for Dave King. Perhaps Dave King just likes to watch the football too.

Someone suggested to me that the facts highlighted above make it a good time to buy shares in RIFC as they are undervalued at present. I'm sceptical but would any of you feel inclined to invest expecting an increased return when the share price rises?

I wonder what the market rate is in a market with one seller and one buyer?
