I think you are too pessimistic on this occasion. I think we can see more than one positive if we look. Gerrard will have gained a breadth of knowledge from a number of different managers at Liverpool. Pretty sure his managers will have taken different approaches. Not to mention the knowledge gained on international duty. His playing experience is miles ahead of almost all of the players in our squad. The players are guaranteed to give him respect. A lack of respect for the manager has been a problem for the last two at least. I wouldn't be surprised if his playing experience gives him the knowledge to manage our team well. As for the last three games he explained that he had other commitments. It's easy to describe it as a gamble and I probably have done myself. During the press conference I started thinking about it. The board are unable to make an appointment free of uncertainty. Every appointment is a 'gamble'. Finally he talks a much better game than Warburton, he is more convincing than Caixinha and Murty doesn't even come close. The last thing I'm thinking about is getting some scraps from the Liverpool table.

From the report: Seems that the council want you to travel by bus, train, foot or bicycle Will any of you be forced into a change because of this?

Graeme Murty 'relieved of his duties' as Rangers manager

It doesn't matter how simplistic a view it is. It is supported by the facts. Despite some good work leading up to March he let it all collapse after failing to beat Celtic at home. What followed is a disaster. -
It's obviously possible that it is bad. Maybe even likely given the era but it isn't definite. One possible reason for the lack of explanation could be that it is related to an impending announcement that can't be discussed openly just now.

Think you might have read a bit too much Keith Jackson.
-
I'm hopeful that it is one of the latter options. Pretty sure the board have gone on record to say that it wants some non-supporters or independent board members.
-
No wish to shoot the messenger. I think we are all familiar with stories about spending tens of millions though. Especially when it emerges at this time of year.
-
Yes, but I think that the idea is to do this during some hypothetical future share issue.
-
£25 million? I'll believe it when I see it. We already have soft loans to pay off. I assume that will consume a fair chunk of any share issue. When money finally filters down to the playing staff budget then I think that one of the first costs will be terminating contracts. As I pointed out elsewhere there are more than a few to deal with. Sad to say that I think the next manager will still have to do a lot of stuff the hard way.

Seriously. Stating the name of some other guy is not a measure of success. Explain to us exactly what the director of football at Rangers has to achieve to be a success. In addition to this you should specify a period of time for him to achieve it by.
-
So you don't have a way to measure the success of a director of football. But you're certain you don't want Mark Allen because he doesn't pass your non-existent test.
-
You will need to be more specific than that.
-
How do you measure the success of a director of football?

GET MCCOIST OUT ... ... of this thread.

What's the point? If the board/management say anything then we will just complain about what they say. Actions speak louder than words.
-
Will you be authenticating any such claims?
-
Expressing an opinion on who should be the next manager. Looks like we can bury the rumour about signing him, no?
-
Quite. I'll be looking on with interest to see if Allen can move them on and whether or not he can avoid awarding such contracts.
-
What did you bet on?

The next manager has a few problems to deal with. I'm looking at transfermarkt and, if the information is correct, it looks like we will retain the services of most of the squad for many years to come. Some of the players that I would like to see move on: Hodson (Contracted until 2019) Cardoso (Contracted until 2020) Halliday (Contracted until 2020) Holt (Contracted until 2020) Dodoo (Contracted until 2020) O'Halloran (Contracted until 2020) Herrera (Contracted until 2020) Carlos Peña (Contracted until 2020*) Maybe a new manager could get something out of Cardoso or O'Halloran but I would rather replace them with fresh faces. Holt and Halliday can go without hard feelings from me. Both have played a part but we need better and we need to move on. A couple of other players that may be a problem Dorrans (Contracted until 2020) Rossiter (Contracted until 2020) Alves (Contracted until 2019) Dorrans does not look like he can contribute too much in the position he is being asked to play. Maybe he can contribute more when used differently. Rossiter has contributed little so far but I accept he has potential while others don't. Alves is 36. Given the difficulties that he has had with injuries I expect that he might contribute less next season. He is only here for one more though so I wouldn't be too concerned if he continued. The length of some of these contracts is quite incredible. I find it hard to believe that Warburton's decision to sign Hodson will hinder us for another year still! Dodoo is quite alarming too. He has a long contract and I'm not sure why he was awarded it. He had played only a handful of games prior to signing for us. The next manager will either have to figure out how to get more out of these players or how to move them on. We already have a large squad and we are already acquiring more players. * I'm pretty sure Carlos Peña is contracted for another two seasons but I didn't get this from transfermarkt.

Investment apparently being announced tomorrow

Yeah, yeah, but what about the investment . . . -
I'd be surprised if it was one of his ambitions to play for us. People keep mentioning him though. I have no idea why.

It's going to be very tough. Not sure why we should have any confidence in the players at the moment. -
This suggests that it is effectively agreed and we are just finalising details. The board will look pretty silly if it doesn't get him to sign now.

I did this too. Judging by what I have read, and watched, I made the right decision.
