Its a positive and progressive idea BH - but to use 3909's terminology - do you really see that happening with the "current players" ? -

I dont think there is any likliehood of a fix real soon 3909. Even if the boardroom situation became settled there still remains considerable animosity between our FO models. I appreciate that is not important for some, but for those who believe it to be the best way forward - it is not encouraging. -

It's tragic in itself, but more importantly its debilitating for us as a support. The internet presents a unique opportunity for us to build a better future for our club, to communicate better, to network better, to organise better, to lobby better - the list goes on and on. With each day and each petulant argument which surfaces - it looks more and more like an opportunity missed. -

Firstly, whilst a member, I had no problem if people referred to me as VB. Secondly, I know for a fact that the individual you refer to is NOT a member of VB. -

Actually, in the interests of veracity, it is inaccurate. -
No a loon you would dismiss as someone with half baked or eccentric ideas espoused to the world with no particular agenda other than sharing his revelations. Bill is neither of those. The majority of Rangers bloggers I know have the best interests of the club at heart, and espouse their own opinions or thoughts for the benefit of the club/support. Bill is neither of those either.

“But our leaders didn’t just lie to us. They terrified us with spectres of mushroom clouds: they attacked our patriotism if we questioned them; they insulted our intelligence if we said we doubted them; they mocked our reservations; they withheld information; suppressed facts; invented threats and deceived us into backing an illegal war which has left tens of thousands of Iraqis, Britons and Americans – who should be alive today and with their families – very, very dead indeed.” (Neil Mackay – The War On Truth) Despite the recent experience many Scots will have had for having their patriotism attacked for merely daring to question, Mr Mackay’s book actually deals with the Iraq war, where amongst other things, he explores and displays considerable understanding of the various mechanisms and machinations used by the UK and US governments to sow the seeds of a lie. In explaining how the lies were told Neil Mackay tells it from the perspective of the US/UK governments and asks the question “So how are we going to twist the truth – some would call that a lie – and make it look as if Saddam was up to his sweaty little armpits in illegal weapons” I would ask you to bear that quotation in mind for the remainder of this article. Neil Mackay, author of The War of Truth, is the same Sunday Herald journalist who wrote the following article. http://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/referendum-news/george-square-trouble-the-night-our-readers-became-reporters.1411314286 Some of you may recognise some of the phraseology used by Mr Mackay within the article. In fact the “statement on Vanguard Bears website” is not actually a statement at all; it is the re-production of an article I wrote on my blog some days before entitled “2 sides of a coin” – which appeared on some other Rangers forums and was subject of discussion. http://immortalrangers.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/2-sides-of-a-coin-2/ Despite the fact Vanguard Bears followed the caveat I asked of any forums publishing my work i.e. that it is reproduced verbatim, without any additions or deletions, you will notice that Mr Mackay has engaged in some fairly extensive and selective editing . Mr Mackay claims in his article “Yesterday it posted a statement online reading: “Our voice is on the rise, we must by actions, not words or political soundbites, ensure our Union is defended.” There is a particular twist to this however – some may even call it a lie – but allow me to share with you the unedited version which I originally wrote, was reproduced verbatim, and is still displayed on my blog. “Our voice is on the rise, we must by actions, not words or political sound bites, ensure our Union is defended, by attacking the root causes of social injustice and poverty within our society.” Remind me what you wrote in The War on Truth Mr Mackay ? “they withheld information; suppressed facts; invented threats and deceived us” Perhaps the original unedited version doesn’t produce the kind of terrifying spectres Mr Mackay was seeking to portray. I’m sure Scots of whatever political persuasion found the scenes at George Square unedifying, I know I certainly did. Of course the Sunday Herald, and it’s pro-independence stance has been of considerable financial benefit with the newspaper boasting a doubling in circulation figures. It seems the truth certainly can be bought at a price, and that has got to be the most unedifying aspect of all.

FS You know my thoughts on the matter from the thread on RM. But can I ask you given that JCD stood for nomination but was not selected and you were, does that not remove some of the scepticism you have ? -
I dont think thats wholly accurate RPB - more of a myth if these stats are correct.

Although we come at this from two different ends of the debate RPB there is much in that I would agree with . The rise in support for independence is showing, for me a worrying trend, I realise thats not the case for you. Given that much of that support has been galvanised at community level, some of which will be ongoing I think it would be foolish for any unionist to think that this debate is over and done with.

Absolute nonsense. Rather than rhetoric its a requirement of the parties which call themselves Pro-Unionist. One of the aspects of the campaign was that Yes very cleverly managed to grab hold of the mantle of social justice - if you didnt hear reference to foodbanks, child poverty or the bedroom tax during the course of the debate then you were not watching the same debates which I was. Labour were labelled "Red Tories" or in darlings case "a front man for the tories". They clearly have considerable ground to make up as evidenced by RPB's stats above.

In that case you have missed the whole point of that article - or I havent espoused it well enough - or perhaps both. When I write.... It is a plea to move away from rhetoric, or empty promises/sound bites - and to take action by way of policy to tackle those causes. Furthermore whilst it may unrealistic to have an aim of eradictating poverty, it is not beyond the realm of politicians to at least be seen tackling some of the causes. Also I dont think I ever suggested the UK parties working together - what I said was that unionist parties need to have at the heart of their manifestos a willingness to tackle some of these issues - not necessari;y together. I would imagine this not only applies to Scotland but other areas such as the North East of England wher there are large areas of multi-deprivation.

Then Im afraid you have presumed wrongly. Its inclusive of all political parties who are pro-union not necessarily the Conservatives. Furthermore Im not as convinced as you are the wave will go back to where it was. I think disaffection with all pro-union parties was a characteristic of this campaign, lets remember alot of those Yes supporters are dis-affected Labour supporters. If the notion of the union is to be defended effectively at the ballot box then those voters are going to have to be won back - already in the last few days the SNP are proudly proclaiming a considerable increase in membership. Where we would find common agreement is in the failings of the Yes camapign - the critical issues for many people remained unanswered - realting to economy, currency and central bank.

Let me assure you, seeing as you seem to be so concerned, that I am not struggling at all. Furthermore rather than "diverting" I am highlighting the type of social injustice and poverty I referred to in the original article. http://immortalrangers.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/2-sides-of-a-coin-2/

It's not particularly dificult to work out , pro-Union political parties need to be seen at the very core of tackling the issues which we as a country find unedifying and unacceptable - poverty, in particular child poverty, and the manifestations of that such as foodbanks. In my opinion that kind of social justice presents a far better argument for the continuation of the Union than flag waving. I think its highlighting during the course of this campaign is something all of Scotland, both Yes and No voters, should be considerably proud of.

As the author of the statement quoted in that article, perhaps it's pertinent I post what I actually wrote, from the orginal article, and which the Herald chose to be particularly selective with. The silent majority have spoken. But we must continue to speak, and speak with a sense of passion and renewed confidence in what we truly believe in and seek to uphold. Let it now be the Unionist voice which protects our NHS, fights with unrelenting determination to establish social justice, as well as eradicate poverty and its manifestations from the shores of our United Kingdom. Our voice is on the rise, we must by actions, not words or political sound bites, ensure our Union is defended, by attacking the root causes of social injustice and poverty within our society. Britain expects – let's be the generation who insist without compromise, that our politicians deliver. The article is still available on my blog.

DK certainly needs to be more visible and vocal Rab. it's clear many of his most ardent supporters are having their faith eroded by his lack of presence and comment.

I would hope for the sake of our club they could identify common goals and where appropriate, work together to achieve them. I honestly think if fans can see change being effected, even if it requires them working together to achieve the 5% then all will benefit as a consequence.

Perhaps I should say - No assurances then ! I dont think anyone on here is either satisfied or confident this current board will take us to where we want our club to be - but deliberately embarking on a course of action, the likliehood of which is admin 2 , makes little sense either, What is frightening is the rejection of the fan ownership 5% factor which Frankie raised. Surely at some point all our FO models realise if they are to see their dreams come to fruition they are going to have to work together - or is it exclusively our way or nothing else ?

Yes you named Bennet/Letham & Smith - Im not even convinced Bennet would accept such a position unless his position has changed from when he was part of The TBK. But you are making something of a quantum leap here GS . These men would be ideal candidates for our board but the plan you are outlining is likely to lead to admin 2 given the precarious state of our finances - Im in no way convinced they would be able to raise the type of sums involved in an admin event and the consequences thereafter.

On the absence of magic solutions we agree, But if people are going to engage in a course of conduct the consequence of which is likely to be admin 2 - I would like to know there are some assurances that our club will emerge from that.
