Court of Session rules in favour of HMRC + Rangers Issue Statement
RabiDuck replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
Can we just take our ball and leave? Go play somewhere else? English conference perhaps? -
So pretty much what we already knew. The board have already noted this previously and confirmed the availability of funds I believe? There's also some talk of a future conversion to equity rather than paying these back. All seems healthy I think!

Here's a thought... If somehow Ashley wins this one and King is found guilty of breaching the gagging order (taking nothing for granted here despite how stupid it all seems to me!) what affect does that have on the order. Once it's breached is it breached or can further breaches also be punished? In other words, is there a chance that if "sent down for this", King exchanges 30 days in the cells for the freedom to speak openly? Might be an interesting twist, though I suspect it wont work that way!

I assume there's some appearance limit to the average strike rate table, otherwise I'd have expected to see Marco Negri up at the top? EDIT Oh, yeah, players who scroed 100 goals. Just ignore me!
-
What wouldn't I give for a player like Lovenkrands right now (played the right way not stuck out on the wing!)
-
Nothing wrong with bringing in an experienced head, even if he doesn't feature much in the way of pitch time. I seem to recall a couple of years back when Becks rolled up to train with Spurs on a short term loan during the off season in MLS. There was something about contracts not allowing him to actually play, but it was deemed that the benefits he brought to the training pitch were considerable enough to bring him in. The hope was, if I recall, that his presence might have a positive effect on a young Aaron Lennon. Didn't quite work that way in the end I think but there's no reason a similar approach might not work at Rangers. **Disclaimer** I'm simply drawing a parallel here, I do not mean to imply either explicitly or implicitly that Eustace is in any way comparable to Beckham as a player!

Personally, there's 3 or 4 I'd happily bring back. Naismith is a top player, I'd certainly not say no, but given his performances for Everton it's unlikely he'd head up north of the border any time soon, and by the time he thinks about it, we should say no. Aluko (and possibly Davis) were talented players that would fit into the current set up nicely I think, should the opportunity present I'd not be sad to see them back. McLeod. Yes! Weiss would also be a possibility but I suspect he was looked at by W+W and they decided against him so I'll defer to their better judgement!

Zappa, I think (hope!) it's a tongue in cheek "Dave King promised this and hasn't delivered exactly what he said he would". If I'm wrong, I despair!

Charles Green takes Rangers to court over legal fees after his arrest
RabiDuck replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Now there's an idea. How about a bidding style auction to raise club funds. Top bidder pays to represent Green? -
Hmmm, bring back Rino!

I seem to remember being critical of Klos' kicking a few years back. Heart was in my mouth every time he punted it upfield!
-
Rousseau, comparing Barry to Pirlo? Not sure he was quite that good!
-
What about the argument of rewarding Law for a good performance. Those on the periphery need to see that there's a way into the first team. It need not be a criticism of Zelalem to rest him for a game and give Law a run out. The onus is then on him to come off the bench when given the opportunity and win his place back. Rested because someone else is playing well rather than he's playing badly?
-
Craig, I can see the argument there. However Law did have a better game (for me) than Zelalem on this instance. It's not a case of Zelalem performing poorly so deserving to be dropped, more of Law playing himself into contention. We've got a small squad, and many of us (myself included) agree with the reasonings behind this, but that doesn't mean we can't have an element of rotation, arguably it makes such rotation more important. All players will spend time on the bench at some point this season I'm sure, everyone needs to have chance to get some game time.

Interesting point, Barry would have been very effective in such a role I think.
-
Woah, strategy discussion? Not seen much of that in the past few years. Cracking read and very very interesting stuff!

It's certainly one hell of debate. Best player in Scotland, so many to choose from. Gazza, de Boer, Larsson great shouts. Goram, Klos, (dare I say it...) Ally. Older fans would likely include Baxter and Greig etc. But whatever list you compile, Laudrup has to be up there, and close to the top. Even the most militant Celtic fan would have to include him (secretly at least!) in much the same way that any sane Bear would include Larsson. There are players who cross cross the divide and remind us what a great player looks like. Laudrup certainty was one of those!

As much as I enjoy watching the current team, and they are playing some very nice football, what wouldn't I give to see a talent like this in the Blue shirt again? I remember going to Hampden to watch an Old Firm legends game several years ago now. Ended in a draw but the skill and talent Brian still had was unbelievable! Some fantastic memories!

Not wanting to add fuel to the fire of the rights\wrongs of all this one, I think one of the saddest things to come out of all the problems of the last decade is that a figure such as Ally, who was revered above almost all others before the difficulties started, is now considered as person-non-grata by large elements of the support. I'm not talking about the rights and wrongs of the situation, many have very strong views that are unlikely to ever be swayed. For some, Ally could turn around tomorrow and buy the Easdale shares, buy out the Mike Ashley contracts and return them to the club, pass his shares to Rangers first and repay every penny he ever earned and still be demonised. Likewise there are others for whom he could walk into Ibrox tomorrow, take the keys, lock the door and hand the whole thing over to Mike Ashley, Craig White or Charles Green and they'd be sure he "had his reasons and did it for the good of the club". Those views will likely never change for many. It's just a sad state of affairs when someone of such a legendary status manages to fall so far and for me, this is the saddest thing about everything thats happened. All the other problems can be rectified with time and it becomes nothing more than a short blip in our great history. Ally's reputation (for many) can never be repaired. After all the great memories he's given us, I find that difficult to fully accept.

Ironic that he signs a contract with BT sport just as Sky snap up a load of further rights to Scottish football?
-
I think squadwise we're pretty good as things stand. Yes add a player or two if the right quality and attitude can be bought at the right price, but nothing silly needed. Things will change in a couple of years (hopefully next year - nothing wrong with a little optimism!) when extra games are brought into the mix with regards to European competition, but there's time yet to prepare for all that. End of season should see some changes as older faces (Miller, Law, etc) move on and new blood brought in to fill their spots, there's possibly an argument to bring them in in January if we can find them, once we've got the league wrapped up (hopefully nice and early the way things are going) we can start moving aside those not likely to be with us next season and almost treat the end of the season (except cup games!) as an extended pre-season?

We do have youths as well, Gasparotto and Sinnamon in particularly. I know they're out on load currently, does anybody know if we have a recall option on them?

League Cup 3rd Round: Rangers v St Johnstone - Live on BBC1 Scotland
RabiDuck replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
St Johnston. Not too bad -
Fair point, but that would presuppose that the board were aware of any plans he may have, there's no reason to imagine he's necessarily shared them if he has them
