Before that he looked absolutely awful. Patience and perseverance are virtues but not virtues Rangers can afford.

Seven in twelve seasons. Just about one every two years. Fair play to the stalwart, a lot of the time he was reserve to Sammy Cox.

Very interesting, thanks, though not entirely understandable. Imagine telling Willie Rae today you’re on the left of the three-two anti-counter trapezium.

Grezda is Albanian playing in Croatia when he signed for Rangers.

Celtic Boys Club manager 'stuffed banknotes in boy's mouth'

A “Dedicated Floating Trial” What in God’s Name is that? And who was the admin nutter who dreamt it up? -
Nobody on this Board has. Except me, of course.

Teams, scorers, attendances, peculiar records such as how many times Willie Bauld put on his left boot before his right. That last is a lie, btw. Believe it or not, good stuff on the Hiberenians as well.

“Using” is too strong a word. The occasional squint at FF - sometimes there’s a pearl to be found amongst the swine. A chap, Mo trux blu or something, does really good bios of players in the 50s and 60s and there’s a good old photos thread. RM in the very distant past. London Hearts is really good. Stand Free for a few days post Darvel. Some English teams for information. Gersnet discussions are outstandingly the best.

It’s fine for my purposes. I don’t know anything about the mechanics of running a site like this. I assume a lot of unpaid work is involved. I look elsewhere sometimes. I don’t see better overall.

That’s it torpedoed. Even now Kapitänleutnant compo is swinging the periscope round.

I see we went to the same Soccer Academy. You must have been the year ahead of me. I’ll add a gallus left half to the list.

City seem the steadier of the two now. Maybe this is Arsenal’s wobble over and a win at Maine Road - sorry, can’t help myself - will see them through.

A ‘keeper, at least one, preferably two, tradesmen defenders with a bit of size to them, a craftsman attacking midfielder and a couple of scoring forwards. Not much to ask, is it? Oh and a winger.

I greatly admired Mrs Thatcher but not to that extent. The great thing about Gazza in addition to his superb footballing skills was his willingness to run and labour for the whole ninety minutes. No flitting in and out of the game for him.

Makes sense to me. Tough but these are tough times. For good or for bad, just go to the games. You’ll miss it when you can’t.

Good point. Alf Ramsay, Don Revie, Tommy Walker, Terry Venables, Eddie Turnbull, Joe Mercer. None of these a superstar player but well above journeyman level. Willie Waddell was an outstanding player. Manager? He put a bit of a brake on Stein and won the ECWC.

Ouch, a double whammy. Apart from the Toffee Men, all my favoured teams had victories today and in one particular league, other teams’ results were just what I would have asked the Easter Bunny for if he’d been around this week.

Obviously the current head coach is reaping the harvest sown by his predecessor.

Sent unexpectedly this afternoon on an unexpected, tedious errand, I thought I’d give Sportsound a go to follow the fortunes of the Famous. The last time I heard a fragment of a commentary was December 2019. Today was just dreadful. There was no bias against Rangers. Indeed from time to time the summariser, Craiggen? Craggen? - him, anyway - remarked that Rangers were playing quite well but whoever was doing the commentary was hopeless completely failing to describe play as they chatted learnedly about this and that. e.g. the summariser in all seriousness told me what St Mirren had to do, was get the ball, keep it and get it up into the Rangers box. I could work that out for myself. They rarely bothered to say where the ball actually was unless there was a likely shot at goal. My mission accomplished, I did not remain with them for the second half. To find out if I am living hopelessly in the past when Peter Thomson liked to give what he called a sound picture of the game, a tradition ably carried on by Francey, Alexander and Begg, I listened to a bit of the R5 commentary City v Leicester. There it was. The sound picture. The commentator telling me where play was, who was in possession, the markers, runners, tacklers, the whole lot. Sportsound is useless. Never mind the bias, the snarkiness and the bheggar adulation. They can’t even do the basics.

To be fair to RW, crock-signing was a perfected art at Ibrox long before he arrived.

Yup. Couple of successful seasons in Gorgie - third place in the league by a distance, a cup win and semi-finals - then he’s ready for the big step up to somewhere.
