  1. Blackpool’s not all that exciting is it? It’s not as though Matthews and Mortensen were still playing for them.
  2. There’s a physical resemblance but that means nothing and I’ve only seen him on the telly in a euro match as third pick. He looked calm and solid and offered nothing spectacular. That was Ritchie’s style. You rarely saw him flying about the goal which I think is down to judgement and positioning similar to Niven before him. He must have made howling mistakes but I don’t remember them. He and Niven had solid defences in front of them which helps. @compowill be a better judge.
  3. He wouldn’t be great as a corner keeping coach. Penalties, maybe but that is just a notion with no statistics.
  4. I would keep him. Reminds me of Billy Ritchie. Can’t say much better than that.
  5. Bye bye, Bobby Madman. Interesting (pace rangers_syntax) to see how he gets on.
  6. But, but he wears a waistcoat and he supports kneeling.
  7. An uncle married a dame Wallonne. Wonderful lady but otherwise, I share your prejudice.
  8. der Berliner has already warned us about Union SG.
  9. My user name suggests otherwise but Davie Wilson was the best all round winger I ever saw for Rangers. Read his book if you can get it.
  10. The team in Aberlour. Is Aberlour Villa. (Don’t ask)They’re not HL, though. I’ve never been to Wick’s ground either. Don’t think I’ll bother.
  11. City’s share of an Ibrox gate in a Scottish Cup tie in February 1952 was £6,200. They framed the cheque and hung it in the Committee room. In April same year Rangers came up to Elgin for a benefit friendly. The blue pound is a long standing institution.
  12. A warm up for the big match against Elgin City on 6th July. B Team I suppose.
  13. Proper fetch-and-carry inside man finishing with a lethal pass or occasional thunderbolt. I reckon he was the inspiration for the Sky Sports football ad. featuring a player in a WBA shirt cutting a weaving path through an imaginary defence, with a ballboy scampering in his wake holding up his long flowing hair like a pageboy holding a train. Netzer and Breitner in their appearance were so different from their Immediate predecessors in the W German team, short haired Teutons like Held and Schnellinger.
  14. And the huge white socks falling over the ankles. I haven’t worn a kilt since the age of seven, thank God, but properly worn by a chap of suitable build it’s a fine outfit. Doesn’t go well with a football shirt and off the shoulder flag.
  15. All new signings should wear the blue.
  16. “Old” is the word. Tell him there’s only @compo, myself and @alexscottislegend as really old dodderers on here and we need a new signing or rather the return of a former stalwart to strengthen the ranks. BH watched Ian McMillan. That qualifies him to say who is and who is not a footballer.
  17. No she’s not. Cows are generally placid, well-doing and productive.
  18. What was it the commentators used to say? Scott-Millar-Brand-GOAL.
  19. Up into the Lowland League. @ian1964will be off for the next month.
  20. The actual football is nothing special. I may not bother with the second half. I used to like Liverpool from Billy Liddell through St John and Stevenson up to Hall and Heighway but went off them after Heysel and Hillsborough and I’ve never liked Real so I’ll see if there’s a symphony concert or something else exciting. I think there’s a bike chain to clean. That’ll do.
  21. Welcome to the north-east, Rousseau. Should have deployed a question mark, though.
  22. I let you off. Anyway, @craigdoesn’t have “syntax” stuck onto his name.
