I had to look that up.

    As, I suspect,  did he.

You disappoint me, sir. Out on Doric’s western frontier, we uncouth folk speak about a baldy heid. I thought that in the leafy boulevards of the Broch glabrous pate was common parlance.

They have some great talent in the squad but he cant get the best from it that is clear.

But not untypical. Robson, Venables and Eriksson all came close but without double home advantage, couldn’t emulate Sir Alf.

  3. @Gribz, old bean, from your legal studies you will be familiar with the term force majeure. @Rousseauis a force majeure so dinna greet and give us your views on rhe game last night.

I thought that by modern standards it was a good match. Periods of tedium were laced with spells of very good football and a couple of really good goals. Who would have thought Germany would lead by two and not win, in fact come close to losing? They were less effective when Raum went off. England became effective when Saka came on. He might develop into a fabulous player with Real when they buy him.

Overall, despite fielding a fullback by name of Schlotterbeck, this wasn’t a classic German side. England better find a centre half pronto. Billy Wright will be turning in his grave. So would John Terry if he were deid.

  4. England always have a lot of talented players to pick from, though maybe not quite as talented as some observers believe but only Ramsay with double home advantage has ever done anything with that talent. Eriksson and Capello couldn’t do it. If they couldn’t, who can?

  5. The manager may be a duffer but the players should realise that people pay to watch them play to the best of their ability. If they won’t, find some who will. Anyway, don’t they just want to win any game they are playing in?

buster, I rarely disagree with you on football and though we have philosophical differences of opinion in other matters they are pretty much within the parameters of tolerance. But boiling a frog! Come on, man. There are limits.

Gattuso. A no from me. We don't need passion. We need someone who has a clear playing style. Someone that can play attractive attacking football with an identity.

Dyche. Another no from me. Dyche has carved an admirable managerial career but the majority of his high points have been with a team that he set out to frustrate and punch above their weight. With Rangers he has to win every game.

I won't win any friends on here but I would take the big Aussie over the other side of the city in a bloody heartbeat. He clearly has an eye for a player and the majority of his transfer business have hit the ground running because they have a clear understanding of what the team is meant to be doing. Colak aside, most of our summer business has not added anything to our team.

    Correct in every word.

  8. Never turn up your nose at three points but I’m weary of these endless nerve-racking match days which have been going on for years, even occasionally in the the 55, no matter who is the manager. Every Saturday should be a Ross County Saturday with the resources available. This is Dundee United not Southampton, Leeds or Crystal Palace let alone any bigger beast. They lost seven to AZ and even more to another team.

Let’s hope Hagi recovers like Larsen and not Mols.

All those billions spent assembling these squads and its like watching st mirren v Motherwell. EPL is a myth

Apart from City and two or three more I think that’s right. Put Raith v Arbroath on at a big stadium with a full crowd for a bit of atmosphere and commentators and “pundits” alike would be screaming in exultation about similar mediocrity.

Each to their own. Either way it sounds like we are in agreement, can we just get on with the football? Our team is a mess. That should be our priority. Not additional tributes to the previous monarch.

Come on, BSRT. Dundee Utd and their supporters haven’t had a chance yet to show their respect and loyalty yet.
