  1. Berwick. Hamilton. QP. Will he resign. Neither Souness nor Symon did.
  2. Penalty. I hope they miss. Don’t deserve anything.
  3. 1956/57 league match Queens v Rangers at Hampden, Queens leading 4-1 in the first half Hunter Devine scoring thrice. It would have been 5-1 if they hadn’t missed a penalty. Johnny Hubbard got two in the five minutes before halftime and Rangers got three more in the second half, 4-6. Niven, Shearer, Caldow, McColl, Young and Davis was the defence. How did QP score one goal let alone four? Geordie Young’s last season might be the answer.
  4. I missed that. I was called away for twenty minutes.
  5. Blaydon Races managed to overcome the End of the Road. Another good cup tie at St Andrews. Scott Wright didn’t do much - drew exasperated groans from the crowd in the second half. Davies wasn’t involved in any catastrophes. Dowell wasn’t involved at all apart from one decent cross.
  6. Sunderland keep discarding points. West Brom up to fourth under Mowbray’s new régime.
  7. Orient v City, a good old fashioned cup tie. Orient coud have scored twice in the last five minutes, City should have done. Leeds out. Didn’t see that coming. Looking forward to Brum City v Newcastle. I’m conditioned from youth to think of Newcastle United as FA Cup holders. They haven’t won it since 1955. High time I was reconditioned. Three Scottish internationalists in black and white, Jimmy Scoular, Bobby Mitchell and a young ‘keeper, Ronnie Simpson who went on to have a pretty good career at the Hibs. The wizard, Bobby Johnstone scored for defeated Manchester City.
  8. Switched between Ayr/Hibs and United/Leicester. I watched one until I could stand it no more then the other until I could stand that no more and so on back and fore. All dire.
  9. At least if Roofe managed to get on the pitch he put on some sort of performance. Cortes in his cameos has done next to nothing.
  10. We should slaughter them. My old dad was a Spider with a friendly interest in the Hibs.
  11. Newcastle through to the final. I want them to win but I’m not hopeful. Liverpool will surely overcome a single goal deficit to ‘Spurs but if by some fluke they don’t and ‘Spurs survive, the final will be Losers v Bottlers. “After you, Claude. No, I insist. You score first. I couldn’t possibly.” and so on through added time and umpteen penalties until the ref in despair and wanting home for his tea, takes one himself, slams it into the net and goes off with the cup.
  12. You would think one of Geordie Young’s old blazers would have been lying around somewhere. Would have fitted Sugar Ray better.
  13. Favourites, i.e. the players most liked not necessarily the best though Caldow and Baxter indisputably were the best. I didn’t think about it, just went through the positions and put down the name that came into mind. Your team would likely beat mine.
  14. Brilliant.
  15. Cerny would. He might even have got a game.
  16. @compo has already picked Sandy Jardine. The choice is overwhelming especially for older geezers. I didn’t think about it. I just let the names roll out and lo and behold it turned into the early sixties side near enough. I didn’t say best, just favourite.
  17. I don’t agree but I understand the choice. Best to play for Rangers at Ibrox or best all comers?
  18. Despite my username, l cross to the other wing for my favourite player, Davy Wilson. Favourites are not necessarily the best. The favourite in every position(2-3-5) GK: Billy Ritchie RB: Eric Caldow (also the best) On second thoughts, Sandy Jardine. LB: Eric Caldow (moved him to let SJ in. EC also the best LB) RH: Ian McColl CH: Ronnie McKinnon LH: Jim Baxter (the best) RW: Alex Scott IR: Ian McMillan CF: Jimmy Millar IL: Ralph Brand OL: Davy Wilson For the best XI, see my many previous nominations. I don’t think I’ve had the same team twice
  19. Second leg of the English League Cup semifinal tonight. Arsenal go to St James two nil down. Mags on their way to the Final or will they bottle it again? If Arsenal score first early they’ll do it. Either team would be my preferred trophy winner.
  20. According to the Daily Telegraph, City have spent £180.2M. The rest of the Premier League combined have spent £193M.
  21. Five. Fewer than each of his Pittodrie predecessor Fred Martin and Ha Ha Haffey and the same as another ‘keeper whose name escapes me. All of the goals conceded by the last mentioned were from offside positions.
  22. Cerny knows how to play. He would fit into any of the great teams of the past.
