The Daily Telegraph Online today has an article on the Premier League’s kits for the coming season. They are illustrated with an option to vote for or against. Most have received a clear majority of votes against. The few approved outfits are the plainest and most straightforward. Some, especially Away kits are truly diabolical. You couldn’t look at Arsenal’s for ninety minutes without suffer severe damage to the eyes. Umbro made 5, Nike and Addidas 4 each, Castore 3. Other makers accounted for the remainder.

Switch on at kickoff, mute, boil the kettle at half time, don’t hang around for the post-match stuff. -

There is no player who can take control and drive the team forward. Manchester City play a bit of sideways stuff but the passes are swift and accurate. What City can do, however, is suddenly inject rocket pace and lethal finishing. Usually. Just not on Saturday. -

I doubt if Sterling will be fit. The left backs are equally poor in different ways. I prefer Hagi to Cantwell. Roofe should play if he can get out of his bathchair even if only for half an hour. Cifuentes may or may not be an improvement on the alternatives. Danilo probably is. Rangers need to keep it tight and hope to finish the job at Ibrox -
Community Shield: City (captained by Bayern full back Kyle Walker) 1, Arsenal (flukey late equaliser) 1. Penalties 1-4 the Gunners.

I liked the new strip until I realised the stripes didn’t go all the way down the back. Four teams on the park yesterday. One in blue and orange stripes, one in blue and white stripes, one in dull blue and one in white. What’s that about? -

Will he still be available at Christmas? Maybe October if Beale resigns. -

Why isn’t that a penalty. It wasn’t jostling it was rugby. In the game I played (with studs nailed on, I confess) you could shoulder charge wee wingers into the next County but you couldn’t lay hands on them. What’s more, the wee wingers accepted the shoulder charge but went ape if you tried to pull them back. -

Nailed it, to use modern patois. My only dissent is the suggestion that bookies would be troubled if you bet on Rangers. I think they would be delighted. -

Sima, Lammers and Dessers may turn out to be excellent players but did we have fierce competition for their signatures? -

S-b-g isn’t saying that at all. He’s just very doubtful about the manager’s capabilities and has been since last season. -

I thought this season would be different but no. Same old daundering about the park. Why are new players playing in the same way as the players we got rid of? It must be coming from the old lags and the fact is, Beale is one of them. His return trip via Villa and QPR doesn’t seem to have done him any good. If you can play like Beckenbauer, you can stroll about like a lord. Otherwise you’ve got to run. What’s Sakala doing these days? -

Beale seems to like Sima. -
A sort of John Fleck of his time. Promised a bit but didn’t quite make it.

Never heard of Brady. Uneasy with the surname.
