  1. I wonder what ‘keepers think. Do we know any? Or defenders?
  2. Steady on, man. The fullbacks were Shearer and Caldow! The half line was Mackay, McNeil, McCann. Definitely Haffey’s fault. Davy Wilson was left wing.
  3. Maybe Bellingham minor made his Brum debut at an age older than than Bellingham major was on his first appearance.
  4. I agree. But Rangers don’t score enough to afford a goalkeeper with any weakness in his goalkeeping.
  5. I agree with that. It’s a medium to long-term solution, though, and most supporters don’t do medium to long-term. The foe is only three titles behind. Soon it will be two. Can we wait?
  6. “Goalkeeper” - the clue is in the name. I like him to keep the ball from going into the net. He should be able to command the box and direct the defence at set-pieces. Anything after that is a useful bonus. We didn’t worry about McGregor until last season. He hasn’t suddenly lost his attack building skills. He never had them. He is leaking goals. That’s why his cup-final cameo should have been his last appearance.
  7. Just like Raul and Morientes and Xavi, he’s bound for parkhead, surely.
  8. For that, 26th, the majority of the gentlemen on this Board will have to take your word.
  9. Did you see the pretty little number Leeds were poncing about in? Can’t imagine Norman Hunter dressed like that.
  10. We usually moan that we don’t get enough tickets.
  11. The two of them could have played together just fine. Put di Stefano in between them and it’s a nightmare for defences.
  12. Perfect instruction from the buster Bumper Book of Strategy and Tactics. What needs to be done, no argument. Now, who is going to do it? Jack, Goldson? Goldson is too far back and neither is 100% match fit. Arfield is aged. Lundstram is inconsistent. Alfie two years ago would have been the chap. Unfortunately, looking at the entire pack of players there’s not a terrier or a foxhound among them. You need two of each for the Tillmans and Colaks to flourish. It’s looking bad.
  13. They didn’t. See above. What you say is 100% right. Not just ‘busses but lots of blokes from the same street.
  14. Could be worse. Could be vuvuzuelas. In the early seventies the Dutch and I think, the Germans too brought some dire instrument to matches. Sounded like a cross between a horn and a siren. “Adds nothing to the game” said Archie in a classic understatement. Just go to the game and cheer your team on like honest Scotsmen. None of your continental (sorry, dB) chanting, rhythmic clapping, drumming, horn-blowing nonsense. And no bagpipes either. A wee flute’s ok though.
  15. The Almighty isn’t even in the squad.
  16. Pele or Puskas? Pele was by far the better athlete and as Bill so rightly says, it was all so gracefully done. Then come the rest of the half dozen or so absolute greats
  17. It’s not entirely new. I’ve been at games when the slow handclap (does that still exist?) would start before twenty minutes after which the crowd, 50,000 + mostly standing, would wait in sullen silence until something happened. I remember one match in the early sixties, with the legends on the park and goalless approaching half time and the patrons snarling and muttering. A huge bloke from one of the Fife clubs started bellowing at those around him to stop moaning and sing the Rangers songs. He then gave a complete and powerful rendition of Follow Follow unaccompanied and in utter silence. When he finished the carping resumed. Rangers supporters are an entitled bunch. “The team owes us. We don’t owe them” seems to be the attitude. At least in the old days the pubs didn’t open until 5pm so there was nowhere else to go. It’s not the first time I’ve heard about people arriving and leaving almost immediately. I don’t know why the alkies don’t just go to the pub where they’re obviously happiest and let football fans get their seats.
  18. I’ve looked at the Motherwell squad. No Aitken, Martis or MCann. No Quinn, St John or Hunter. No Bobby Graham (thank goodness) Not even a Willie Pettigrew. No problem. Comfortable win for the Famous. Score about four and concede none.
  19. Hammers strike a blow but can’t resist Gunners’ counter-barrage. 3-1 to the league leaders.
