  1. I’m sure Southampton have a feeder club somewhere. Usually they take players but I suppose a manager is a possibility.

Leeds or So’ton? Where does the ambitious manager go? There’s a safety option there but while Southampton never will, Leeds might - one day. Win something, I mean.

Another lasting memory is the goal scored by Kenny Cameron for Dundee in the 1964 final a goal any of the superstars would have been proud to score.

Took the breath away, didn’t it?

    Talking of which, Kai 1966.

  3. The good: 3-1 v Dundee 1964

    The bad: 2-3 v Hibs 2016

    The ugly: 0-4 v celtic 1969

These are all finals. Meanwhile, in other rounds:

    The unbelievable: 0-1 v Hamilton 1987

    The impossible: 0-1 v Berwick 1967

The aw naw: 0-6 v Aberdeen (I wasn’t there but the radio commentary is seared into the memory banks)

You can be absolutely guaranteed that if Ange heads to Leeds they will be exclaiming that Pep really wants to manage Celtic.  Nothing surer.

I laughed but on reflection, they probably will. There must be a special relationship with Catalonia, surely, similar to the one with Royal Madrid.

  5. The good old effy cup continues to entertain. Wrexham performed sturdily against Sheffield United in the replay at Bramall Lane. Blades played really good passing football but couldn’t finish until taking a lead in the second half which Wrexham equalised with a penalty. They got a second penalty which they missed and then lost two goals deep into extra time.
Slightly weird to think that Don Bradman hit 140 on the ground for the Australians against Yorkshire.

Scott7 what was the Sebo incident? I missed that entirely.

Sportsound was broadcasting during the last two hours of a transfer window. Gordon was presenting and making a good job of it. In the last minutes he said something was coming in but he would have to check with the producer if he could announce it. He then said he had the producer’s approval and told the audience an offer had been made for Felip Sebo by Edinburgh Zoo.

I speculate the “message” was planted by one of the production staff and endorsed by the producer rather than dreamed up by Gordon himself.

@buster.posts sensibly above. We are all too quick to take offence. If Sebo’s teammates had said it to his face in jocular fashion or if supporters of any club had been saying it among themselves in derision, it would not matter one bit. But it was wrong to broadcast it. If they had said a scout from Rangers had been seen at the rhinoceros enclosure at the zoo, that would have been acceptable as a comment on the club’s style of play, a comment that listeners might or might not have agreed with. There was no need to single out for insult a young foreigner who unlike Gascoigne, for example, had hardly any profile other than not being very successful.

Speaking about rhinos, can you imagine the demented press coverage Don Kitchenbrand would get?

Many missing because of the lack of Big Dick !!

Gordon was a very good broadcaster in his early years at Sportsound. He was an Aberdeen supporter. Fair enough. Born and brought up there, was he not?

The notorious Sebo transfer incident was fed to him by a producer. Gordon said something to the effect that he would need to check with the producer before he read out the message and then that he had been given the go ahead. So, on the night he was by no means entirely to blame though he could have made his own decision not to read it.

It was a disgraceful episode worthy of sackings. In their excitement the poisonous creatures thought they were insulting Rangers. In fact they were grossly insulting a young man plying his trade as best he could in a foreign country. Gordon and his programme went rapidly downhill after that.

He will score/miss chances as all strikers do but given that he is usually two man marked opens up space for his fellow players.

That is so true in both respects but other players have got to exploit the space created.
