Doubt it. The most he’ll get after this is his bus fare.

Motherwell missed a penalty in the first half. Probably just as well. A score would have galvanised the spalpeens and they would have ended with six. The door of opportunity has opened a wee bit further. It’s up to Rangers to kick it off its hinges tomorrow.

You’ll not see me poncing about like that. Barbour now until mid-May, Crombie for funerals. Both have adequate pockets. Wonder what’s in his bag.

I see Stewart borrowed his wife’s camel coat and shoulder bag.

Both had very good teams. As we have experienced over a few years a good team will usually beat eleven comparatively stellar individuals. I don’t think any of the DU champions would get into the also rans in the Gersnet lists. Narey? Sturrock? Milne? Hegarty? Aberdeen had better individual players. Leighton, Miller, Strachan and from earlier times Martin Buchan and Graham Leggatt but you wouldn’t have Buchan ahead of Tam Forsyth who had plenty of mentions but I think, no nominations. Surprisingly, Hibs had better players than any of the others. Apart from the historical five, they had Stanton, the best of the lot, Baker, Brownlie, Hamilton and Martin. I could see all of these in blue but I doubt if even Stanton would displace any of the final selection. The best other team was the Dundee champion side. No weak links, all above average and Brown, Ure and Gilzean absolute stars as evidenced by their departures to ‘Spurs and Arsenal.

And at most other grounds. It was great. Cheer and counter cheer. Terrific atmosphere much better than modern drumming times. -

Aberdeen outwitted Rangers at Ibrox not long ago. More recently they were crushed at another match in Glasgow though they did hold the opposition to 3-0 at ninety minutes. Their record against other clubs is patchy but they are capable of managing one-off games like cup-ties. Rangers will be selecting a team from the same group of players as last time so you might say nothing has changed since the 1-3 defeat. True about the team but a significant change is the departure of Beale. Maybe the arrival of Clement is also significant but as Bill cautions, an optimistic rush to judgement isn’t wise. PC does have a look about him of a Rangers manager. If the players have the right attitude and play to their ability, Rangers will win. Can’t believe my confidence. I’m a Rousseau-style fear merchant. -

Undeniable. But as @Uilleam put it so well, without the musical talent and to be honest without the hills. Borders hills are better. -

West of the river Findhorn to be exact. West of Bucksburn we’re just ordinary countryfolk or fisherfolk. -
Agreed. Your scores won’t be far off. City will score three. Newcastle are stumbling, Chelsea are stepping up. 1-2 Blues. Hope I’m wrong. Hope you’re right about the Villa and Everton. What is it about United? They are terrible but they keep turning up in the top six.

Aberdonians may not be big city slickers, compo, but they’re not teuchters either. That’s reserved for Highlandmen. The message is correct, though and as Bill says, they will be targeting Cantwell, their new Morelos. -
The difficulty was not who to pick but who you could leave out. Try the same exercise with other clubs. Choosing their best XIs is much easier without the huge talent bank to draw on. One in particular had a geriatric ‘keeper, a mesmerising winger a brilliant Dane (Second Class) a centre half, one or two half-backs and a few other forwards. I could only think of eight Hearts players and two of them had their best seasons at Hibs. Including those two, I reckon about a dozen at Hibs maybe fourteen at Aberdeen including Dave Smith and Davie Robertson.

None like us, old bean.
-
The wizardry in that midfield is stunning.
-
Amato an interesting choice. He was a very good player right enough. Instrumental in wining at least two games from losing positions.
-
Unbeatable but you left out McPhail.
-
Jolly sporting of you just to pick ten fellows. You missed out Tiger.

Just about every selection in the topics is easily justified except for those which don’t have Caldow at left back. (He was also the best right back)

12 games in 37 days will define the season

We salute your confidencability, Tsb. Really only two difficult fixtures in that list. Recent Rangers, however, have made all fixtures difficult but maybe Clement is changing the loser mentality. -
Vote of thanks to @Rousseau for a most interesting exercise producing an elected team of world beaters. I only picked Jardine, Greig, Baxter and Laudrup but my one real quibble with the majority is Robertson instead of Caldow. Caldow was world class. Robertson was only excellent. My team: Ritchie Jardine, Young (Capt.)McKinnon, Caldow; Greig, Durrant, Baxter; Laudrup, Miller, Brand. Subs: Goram, Stevens, Gough, McMillan, Henderson. Manager, J Scotland Symon, Chief Coach, Walter Smith. Motivation and Incentivisation Coaches, Jock Shaw and Bobby Shearer. I’ll be changing my mind next week. I’m thinking McMillan for Durrant. I’ll stick with Millar and Brand but Stein and Forrest would be lethal.

UEFA has fined them over £20,000 for the capering against Athletico, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Colin, Colin, Colin Stein - how did I miss him off my list? I saw his debut for Hibs and I knew they had a player. It’s still M&B, though.

@26th of foot is a wise man. He heeds the guidance of his illustrious forebears, what a pedigree. I thought I’d follow his example and with the aid of the ouija board I asked my old man what he thought. The answer from the spirit world without a moment’s hesitation, Lawrie Reilly and Joe Baker. Should have known. Dad was a Spider but the Hibs were his other team. So, using my own skill and judgement: Willie Thornton but there’s no Willie Waddell on the wing. Don Kitchenbrand and Maxie Murray scored plenty but there were better to follow. Jimmy Millar and Ralph Brand - say no more. Jim Forrest a player who was more than just a goal machine. Derek Parlane deserved better than Ally Scott or Martin Henderson as his assistant. DJ probably the most versatile of the lot. McCoist and Hateley, the perfect partnership and the bookies’ favourites. There was no type of goal Super couldn’t score from the sublime to the ridiculous Robert Fleck. I didn’t understand why Souness preferred Hateley. I found out when that famous header went in. Durie and Drinkell - workers but goal scorers too. Negri and Mols - ah, what might have been. Prso and Jelavic would have been a prolific pairing. You would have to be blind not to pick McCoist and Hately but I choose Millar and Brand (Where’s that damn dog with my white stick?) Jimmy Millar could leap and power in headers like DJ and Hateley. His work rate never slackened. No defender had an easy afternoon with Millar on the park. Ralph Brand, the ultimate craftsman goalsmith. I can’t remember him scoring from distance nor did he get a lot with his head but from every part of the penalty area, left or right side Ralphie would rifle them into the corner. Crackshot.

Somebody crocked already? Should have known. This is Rangers.
