  1. Maybe not quite but not far off it. Come back and ridicule me later.
  2. Ah but does contact with an agent amount to contact with a principal? I put that to one of m’ learned friends. She said “sod that for a bleeding lark” (it’s how they talk - expensive) so I’m none the wiser.
  3. Once upon a time pubs were licences to print money. Not any more. One of the richest blokes I ever knew had one of his betting shops next to a pub. He bought the pub. Most lucky winners at the bookie’s went straight next door and gave him his money back.
  4. One of three very good Dundee teams. The earlier champion side was excellent, the best of the three and the even earlier 40s/50s side, though not quite attaining the levels of the other two, had very good players in Cowie, Boyd, Gallagher and the greatest dark blue of all, Billy Steel.
  5. OK, another for Goldson.
  6. Of the players available for most of the season Goldson made the fewest horlickses.
  7. Do you not think Everton’s relegation strife is Heaven’s disapproval of the move away from Goodison? I suppose if Heaven were all that miffed, they would actually have been relegated.
  8. Jeff Dujon was also a handy batter, batsperson batsman though he got out in a Lord’s Test after being distracted by pigeons at short leg. Wasn’t there a pigeon at Ibrox used to fly about during the game? Wouldn’t want it distracting Sterling from his defensive duties.
  9. Word perfect and well done on resisting”would score for fun”.
  10. They must be dead certs for the drop.
  11. So, they will miss pre-season training, be out ‘til October, play three games, have a recurrence of injury sustained on international duty, require surgery and make a couple of appearances before the end of the season but not enough to qualify for runners-up medals. You would think they would learn from past experience but putting your country before your career? I suppose that’s commendable isn’t it?
  12. Leeds were giants in the Revie years but didn’t do much before or since. Everton have been names if not always giants since day one but they’ve got to start earning proper big team status again. Leicester and So’ton are pretty much middle of the roaders. I can see So’ton coming straight back up, Leeds not so much nor Leicester. You’re right. They should have kept Rogers.
  13. If you pretend to be ignorant I’m not going to discuss further. Or something like that. Can’t remember the exact wording. There is no and.
  14. No he doesn’t. He prefers to win in the EL rather than lose in the CL. Do you reckon Rangers are fit to cope with CL? He’s one of your masters, don’t forget.
  15. Don’t underestimate Backa Topola just because they’re not as well known as Backa Beyond.
  16. Conway, Colrain, Brogan, Jackson - not much of a threat in those days. They should have bought the Third Lanark front five.
  17. Been there thrice, once on business and twice to see United in their pomp. My younger son transferred himself from Motherwell to United with Willie Pettigrew. Thank God he went on to the Hearts and the boy went with him. Passed through Dundee often enough without stopping. I think that’s the best way.
  18. Johnny Divers. Got a few goals for them. Contemporary of Stevie di Chalmers who got a few more.
  19. He’s been an excellent manager for celtic but Tottenham Hotspur?
