Willie Henderson and Ralphie Brand?

Possibly it’s celtic who are not in the right frame of mind.

Great winger, not such a good manager despite the Kilmarnock miracle.

An absolute great for the Airdrieonians, the Rangers and the Airdrieonians again. The best passer of the ball I ever saw and that includes di Stefano, Blanchflower, Haynes and White. Never a more thrilling sight at Ibrox than Ian McMillan clawing the ball down from the air, pivoting and rifling a pass between defenders for Alex Scott to race onto, all in one movement. Scot Symon’s instruction to defenders: “Just give it to Ian or Jim”

Match Thread [FT] Rangers 3 (Dessers 5', 45+5'; Souttar 90+2') - 1 Ross County

Telly highlights showed Rangers playing some football equal to anything I’ve seen before but it should have been six, minimum. Dessers scores some goals exquisitely fashioned out of nothing and not what you would expect from someone of his build but he doesn’t get many of the instinctive striker’s goals through a ruck of defenders in the ‘keeper’s box. -

I know what you mean but you could have a wonder ‘keeper and rubbish defenders. -

They were, as were all the Highland Regiments before the rifle put an end to such finery. The drummers in the pipes and drums of 4 Scots, descendants of the Seaforth, still wear scarlet doublets. They looked better in green. Not emerald green, obviously, a much darker shade than that. Archer Green it’s called, I think. -

County are hopeless according to a recent manager. Should be a walkover. On the other hand, last time in Glasgow although they lost a goal in the first minute, they held out for the next three hours or however long it lasted. -
The beginning of some years of second best. You did well to recover from a devastating experience for a nine year old. I suppose parachute trsining was no bother after that.

Another website has umpteen pages of old time photos. Well worth a visit. Just don’t waste time on any other stuff except one guy who does really good bios of the 50s and 60s heroes.

Hope you’re on a commission rate for this.

I wasn’t there. A higher duty compelled me to be two hundred miles away. Heard the radio commentary of the last twenty five minutes which is all they did in those days.

I listened to the Sportsound commentary yesterday. I don’t know why bbc don’t employ commentators instead of Squeallum McLeod. He told me next to nothing about the game but managed to mention Aberdeen twenty to thirty times. I suppose he was a bit hyper after his team’s giant-killing victory over Bonnyrigg Rose in the afternoon.

I don’t like the idea. Perhaps off for ten with a yellow but that clears the slate. Second yellow and off for ten again but it stays on the slate. Third yellow and you’re off. I don’t know if I like that idea either.

Perhaps @compo’s memory is confused and he’s recalling a performance of The Winter’s Tale at the Pavilion. “Exit pursued by a bear.”

Villa were absolutely dreadful last night. Played like a lower level Championship side.

Match Preview [FT] Rangers 2 - 1 Aberdeen (Matondo 7'; Cantwell 72')

Before the last Aberdeen game I thought the league was lost. The 1-3 confirmed I was right. But I was wrong. A few wiser heads on here told me so. It’s not lost. It’s not won either but there are prospects. 2-0 to the Hibs tonight and Rangers are top. -
Gersnet Article Was our transfer window a success?

Correct. As for the rest I doubt Danilo and Sima will be fit in time to make an impact and I’m not so confident about Davies, King, Matondo and Wright but Sir, we salute your optimisticabilty and I might be persuaded if we duff the Aberdonians tonight. -

Did you not mean “Aberdeen will be wanting to make amends after Saturday”? Actually, iI thought they were lucky against poor opposition. Showed little in the way of energy or desire. -
To make @compo greet. 1955 FA Cup Final, Newcastle United v Manchester City (I thought City only got invented five years ago) 3-1 United and four Scottish Internationalists on the park, Jimmy Scoular, Bobby Mitchell and Ronnie Simpson (uncapped at the time) for United and Bobby Johnstone, City. Johnstone scored with a header. United defence should have been ashamed. City won the 1956 Final, Johnstone scored again.
