  1. Mighty Don Kitchenbrand. The ball must go into the net, the ‘keeper as well if need be and the centre half too, just to make sure.
  2. Thoroughbreds now by a nose.
  3. For Liverpool, I hope but not for the Gunners, thoroughbreds coming up on the rails.
  4. He did indeed but the Gunners go top. A draw at Anfield tomorrow and they’ll stay there.
  5. Two great fullbacks, Bobby Cox and Bobby Shearer followed by two great ‘keepers Bert Slater and Billy Ritchie.
  6. @Uilleam posted this photo in the Match Thread. The original Lisbon Lions, 3-0 for the holidaymakers I don’t know the chap in the demob suit at the end of the line but from him, Waddell, Gillick, Thornton, Cox, Duncanson, Caskie, Woodburn, McColl, Young, Brown, Shaw (trying to hide so as not to be seen holding a bunch of flowers) and Mr Struth.
  7. Well said. I think that entitles you to a seat in the Chamber of Old Fogeys.
  8. This great force of nature was in awe of the distance John Greig could hoof a rugby ball.
  9. Formidable exponent of the art of goal scoring, Uwe Seeler Hamburg SV and FDR
  10. 🎶 Onto the head of Billy Simpson and in goes number three🎶
  11. The last of the Iron Curtain, golden boy, Bobby Brown.
  12. Jock Shaw has already featured in his older days. Here he is again, a callow youth with some of his wee pals, Thornton, Young, Cox, McColl, Rae and Woodburn.
  13. Somebody did a computerised fifteen round fight between Marciano and Ali. A bloodied, outboxed Marciano won by a knockout in the thirteenth.
  14. Almost as tough as Woodburn, scourge of British heavyweight boxers (and all others too) undefeated Heavyweight Champion of the World, Rocky Marciano.
  15. Why has this man not been on sooner? His name is Willie Woodburn.
  16. No. What’s the point?
  17. That was a cracking Throstles team they were in.
  18. The last playing member of the Iron Curtain, magnificent right half and captain Ian McColl.
  19. How did Bair play? He looked very good against Ross County (most do) Can’t remember if he was in the team against Morton in the Gasman’s Cup. Might have been but didn’t do anything.
  20. From the highlights it looks like a lot of folk, Hearts and celtic didn’t bother to turn up. Even the wee Gorgie ultras were about half strength.
  21. City put United back in their box, 3-1. I didn’t see it nor did I listen to the commentary but when I switched on R5 for the result, I was lucky enough to hear soccer super sage Dion Dublin say “Bernardo Silva was outstanding without doing anything special” The rest of them must have been rank rotten.
  22. Imagine the other way round. In second place, Rangers score a barrowload midweek while celtic win narrowly, then celtic lose at home to diddies and Rangers have the chance to go top but blow it. I think we’ve had the better of the weekend.
  23. Aye but he’s not really very good. Just scores against diddies. In theory their defeat away to Hearts is not as bad as a home defeat to Motherwell but after seven midweek goals and a chance missed to go top the effect on morale makes it worse.
  24. MM and one of the finest at headers despite being about half the size of Hateley or DJ. Scottish International selectors had the puzzle of choosing a number 9 from Willie Thornton, Lawrie Reilly or Willie Bauld. They sometimes solved it by picking Billy Houliston of Queen of the South, a sort of unsophisticated Lyndon Dykes.
  25. The great all rounder. No, not Botham or Sobers. They never flew over Germany in a Mosquito. Keith Miller, Victoria, Australia and carousing pal of Denis Compton.
