  1. Ah well - PNE v Villa? That would do. I fear, though, it will be Bournemouth v Brighton. At least United are out. A Bassey inspired Fulham kept their nerve at OT. Magpies were poor. They didn’t look fit. BHA deserved the win though Isak had a terrific goal correctly ruled out for offside.

    Butland

Butland’s form has nothing to do with Clement. It’s everything to do with Butland.
  3. It’s hypothetical, old bean. We can dream, can’t we?
  4. I’d keep Hagi and maybe as a squad player Diamonde. Tav has run his course. A great attacking option but he occupied a slot usually reserved for a defender. Butland had a good season and still produces magnificent reaction saves but I’d prefer a competent tradesman ‘keeper. Balogun and Sterling can perform when fit but rarely are. None of the rest on the list has done anything of note. The galling thing about Ridvan is the money spent on him.
  5. First Worrall out of the Cup, now Katic. Ex-Rangers centre halves not saving their clubs. Actually, Katic, apart from letting a pass go through his legs for de Bruyne to score, did nothing wrong. Better than Pröpper as a defender.

    Butland

I’d play Kelly if only to find out if he should be retained at the end of the season.
  7. Wolves go out on penalties missing their last two after leading 4-3. To tell the truth apart from two very good goals and one phenomenal scoring free kick the PNE game as a whole wasn’t very good. Nostalgia’s not what it used to be.

    Butland

You mean super Jack, our saviour at Tynecastle? He’s not totally diabolical but he should have been sold at the end of last season when his reputation was intact. His career pattern is to start brilliantly and inexplicably fall away so there’s no coming back for him. Kelly no matter how bad should play for the rest of the season.
  9. To be honest, it’s not my own idea. I overheard someone say that on the platform at Largs railway station about forty years ago.
  10. It worked out ok in the end on Wednesday but generally, gifting two goals to the opposition early in the match is unlikely to turn out to be a consistently winning tactic.
  11. Proud Preston go through 3-0 much to the delight of Stuart McCall in their backroom staff. Joe Worrall played very well at cb for Burnley - apart from some mistakes and misjudgements.
  12. Wolves v Preston is my forlorn hope. Mags v Villa would do fine.
  13. Bismarck did fine. United the team and won the Euro League though to be fair, not every country competed.
  14. 0-0 HT at Villa Park. The Welsh resisting stoutly on the eve of St David’s day. Haven’t done much but should have had a penalty. Villa did quite a lot but hit the ball straight at the ‘keeper. Rashford Desssersed one up in the air when all he had to do was score.

    Tav the CB

I’ve only seen highlights of the Kilmarnock game which of course tell you nothing so can anyone who was there say how Tav played at CB? Pretty well by most observations in the MOTM topic. I doubt he was a McLeish style crash bang walloper maybe more Willie Miller sorting things out, keeping them neat and tidy but without Miller’s useful streak of venom. Do you pick him at CB for Motherwell? A backline of Ridvan, Tav, Pröpper amd Jefte isn’t exactly iron clad, is it? But who else is able to stand let alone play?
  16. Villa v Cardiff tonight but the pick of the ties for doddering old folks tomorrow is Preston North End v Burnley. the Newcastle rockers v Brighton mods will interest the more up to date folk plus a London derby, working class Millwall v middle class Palace. Bournemouth and City should easily dispose of Wolves and Argyle. United v Fulham would be an away win in the league but this is the Cup so United will win. Forest should be comfortable against Ipswich but you never know.
  17. I’ve seen none of this and I left Sportsound after 13 minutes. Who were the strongmen who got the team through. I’m guessng Cerny, Dessers, Tav and Igamane and Bazza of course.
  18. Not the sort of thing you want to be advertising. Police Officers could be taking note.
  19. I get it now. Ferguson’s the continuity candidate.
  20. A bit of quality wouldn’t go amiss. We’re not all five years old.
  21. At last. Convincing evidence that he’s good and/or bad. Or a bit of both.
  22. It seems just the other day Pardew was the coming man. Never quite arrived. One of the younger dinosaurs.
  23. Lot of obstacles to be overcome. A squint at the books usually brings up a get out if you want it and if it’s true about Park, who wants to buy into a company that’s got a big dissenting holding?
