  1. There are no killers. Rangers always had plenty of these, at least one in every department.
  2. “Not every one is a penalty when there’s a shirt pull in the box ….” - Robson. When were the rules changed to allow shirt pulling? Is it ok now to play rugby in a football match?
  3. Great player. Scorer and maker of goals and nobody pushed him around.
  4. I would’t normally but I did watch the Nippon Emerald match. The ‘keeper Kelly turned on the sort of performance goalies usually reserve for Rangers.
  5. Were there other players he could have picked? Walter himself would be struggling with SG’s legacy of elderly defenders and Beale’s bequest of Netherlands no-hopers. ’tic didn’t click yesterday, did they? And they were at home.
  6. When we go 2-0 up bring on McCausland to rout them.
  7. You’ll be right, young man. The last one was Eddie Turnbull’s side.
  8. By God he was. Hearts couldn’t manage him properly but Stein transformed him when he went to Hibs. Suggestions that on Friday nights Stein took him into “protective custody”. Should have added Peter Cormack and Jimmy O’Rourke to the list of hibbees above.
  9. Doubt it. The most he’ll get after this is his bus fare.
  10. Motherwell missed a penalty in the first half. Probably just as well. A score would have galvanised the spalpeens and they would have ended with six. The door of opportunity has opened a wee bit further. It’s up to Rangers to kick it off its hinges tomorrow.
  11. You’ll not see me poncing about like that. Barbour now until mid-May, Crombie for funerals. Both have adequate pockets. Wonder what’s in his bag.
  12. I see Stewart borrowed his wife’s camel coat and shoulder bag.
  13. Both had very good teams. As we have experienced over a few years a good team will usually beat eleven comparatively stellar individuals. I don’t think any of the DU champions would get into the also rans in the Gersnet lists. Narey? Sturrock? Milne? Hegarty? Aberdeen had better individual players. Leighton, Miller, Strachan and from earlier times Martin Buchan and Graham Leggatt but you wouldn’t have Buchan ahead of Tam Forsyth who had plenty of mentions but I think, no nominations. Surprisingly, Hibs had better players than any of the others. Apart from the historical five, they had Stanton, the best of the lot, Baker, Brownlie, Hamilton and Martin. I could see all of these in blue but I doubt if even Stanton would displace any of the final selection. The best other team was the Dundee champion side. No weak links, all above average and Brown, Ure and Gilzean absolute stars as evidenced by their departures to ‘Spurs and Arsenal.
  14. And at most other grounds. It was great. Cheer and counter cheer. Terrific atmosphere much better than modern drumming times.
  15. Aberdeen outwitted Rangers at Ibrox not long ago. More recently they were crushed at another match in Glasgow though they did hold the opposition to 3-0 at ninety minutes. Their record against other clubs is patchy but they are capable of managing one-off games like cup-ties. Rangers will be selecting a team from the same group of players as last time so you might say nothing has changed since the 1-3 defeat. True about the team but a significant change is the departure of Beale. Maybe the arrival of Clement is also significant but as Bill cautions, an optimistic rush to judgement isn’t wise. PC does have a look about him of a Rangers manager. If the players have the right attitude and play to their ability, Rangers will win. Can’t believe my confidence. I’m a Rousseau-style fear merchant.
  16. Undeniable. But as @Uilleam put it so well, without the musical talent and to be honest without the hills. Borders hills are better.
  17. West of the river Findhorn to be exact. West of Bucksburn we’re just ordinary countryfolk or fisherfolk.
  18. Agreed. Your scores won’t be far off. City will score three. Newcastle are stumbling, Chelsea are stepping up. 1-2 Blues. Hope I’m wrong. Hope you’re right about the Villa and Everton. What is it about United? They are terrible but they keep turning up in the top six.
  19. Aberdonians may not be big city slickers, compo, but they’re not teuchters either. That’s reserved for Highlandmen. The message is correct, though and as Bill says, they will be targeting Cantwell, their new Morelos.
  20. The difficulty was not who to pick but who you could leave out. Try the same exercise with other clubs. Choosing their best XIs is much easier without the huge talent bank to draw on. One in particular had a geriatric ‘keeper, a mesmerising winger a brilliant Dane (Second Class) a centre half, one or two half-backs and a few other forwards. I could only think of eight Hearts players and two of them had their best seasons at Hibs. Including those two, I reckon about a dozen at Hibs maybe fourteen at Aberdeen including Dave Smith and Davie Robertson.
  21. The wizardry in that midfield is stunning.
  22. Amato an interesting choice. He was a very good player right enough. Instrumental in wining at least two games from losing positions.
