  1. By their actions shall ye know them.
  2. Big crowd at Bramall Lane.
  3. I think we were in the lording business for a lot more than twenty years.
  4. Sunderland, Blades and to a lesser extent Charlton have a bit of faded pedigree to them and both Sunderland and United will fill a stadium which as you say should be Villa Park for one and Old Trafford for the other. Hull and Wigan are nonentities though I expect City to beat Sunderland. I know Wigan won the Cup but any team can tiptoe to a final and play above themselves against opposition that doesn't take them seriously. Lisbon 1967?
  5. He's right about the photo taking.
  6. I agreed with you, Bd but on second thoughts did the bank manager not live in the wardrobe at one time? Seriously there is a considerable misunderstanding about the effect of securities. Here is an idiot's guide. (I know because I am that idiot) So long as you pay the debt and it's components as and when due, you're fine. If you don't pay, the lender can take the asset, sell it, keep what's due to him and give you back the surplus if any. The lender can't just keep the asset for himself but he can bid for it in the open market if he wants.
  7. Didn't know that. Admin must have settled because the security subjects weren't sold. I think Trueger above was meaning the surplus of the realised value over the amount of the loan.
  8. Were there any secured creditors last time ? I can't remember. If the cash pool is big enough the liquidator can pay off the secured creditor in exchange for a discharge without going through the whole rigmarole. Different if there are postponed (or prior) security holders.
  9. " passes to him " - not so fast, gs. On default he can enter into possession and have the place sold at market price. He keeps what's due under the loan and gives the surplus to the company/ administrator/ liquidator, whoever's running the show at the time. He can even be a market value bidder but he can't just walk in and say This Is Now A Bus Stop.
  10. Who is the big accounting cheese? Brendan O'Hoolihan, Chartered O'Ccountant? Seriously, the situation is worrying. A second admin. will provide another round of troughs for the spivvery to gorge in. The question is whether there's enough to tide them over to a third event. I've got a terrible feeling we're done for. A wounded lion brought down by hyenas. A lion of little brain, it has to be said. It should have mauled its keepers long ago. And that's the end of melodrama for today. I'll be better tomorrow. Won't I?
  11. The great man made his debut at Ibrox against Aberdeen on 24th November 1956. The team: Niven, Shearer, Caldow; McColl, Davis, Logie; Scott, Simpson, Murray, Baird and Hubbard. The Dons turned out a smashing team that day, Harry's immediate opponent being Paddy Buckley a pretty nifty centre forward. 3 - 1 to the Light Blues. Johnny Hubbard scored a penalty! Sensation! Three weeks later Harry was left half with Geordie Young at centre half when Rangers smashed title contenders Hearts 5 - 3 scoring Rangers' equalizer after being 0 - 2 down with a thundering shot from 20 + yards. His last match was on 11th January 1965 when Rangers edged past Stenny in a SC tie 1 - 5. The team: Ritchie, Provan, Caldow; Davis, McKinnon, Baxter; Henderson, Greig, Millar, Brand and Watson.
  12. Oh yes there is. If I remember rightly.
  13. Harold Davis - the only man on earth who could have strengthened the Iron Curtain.
  14. I'm not convinced yet about fan ownership but I agree 100% with everything else in that post.
  15. That is one of the worst ever. Contrast that with the Rugby chaps who have reverted to the traditional navy blue, no trim, no fancy scribbling and minimalist logo. Thay may not be all that good at playing the game but they look the part.
  16. Is that not Danny Lennon, St. Midden manager? I have every confidence the learned Judge will deal with the matter dispassionately and impartially but for his own good, instead of declaring an interest, he should have passed on this one and given it to one of his colleagues with no interest in the game. If he finds in favour of Heidi Hoop there will be many misguided and deluded individuals who will never believe it had nothing to do with his allegiance to cp. What's the Judiciary coming to? Sellick men on the Bench! In the good old days there might have been a couple of Hearts guys. The rest spent their Saturday afternoons at recitals or cataloguing their butterfly collections.
  17. WGS is a better manager than umpteen of his predecessors so we should beat Gib and we've got a chance against ROI, pale shadows of their recent selves and reverting to what they used to be. Can we sneak past Georgia and get a bit of luck against Poland? Or will our points total be 7, a win and a draw against Gib and an away win against Germany?
  18. The Iron Curtain + Willie Rae. Willie Waddell Bobby Shearer Harold Davis Don Kichenbrand John Greig Jimmy Millar Tam Forsyth Colin Jackson No one tried to kick them off the park. Those who tried it with McMillan and Baxter were "cautioned" by Mr Davis. The point is you need a few men of steel in the team. McCulloch is the only one who comes close to being an apprentice to the above mentioned.
  19. I know what you mean, DB. "Tall Target Man" is how the rubbish press describe it. Don Kichenbrand.

    aye ready

I'm sure you did. Motto of the RFCSA. Rangers: "Ready." RFCSA: "Aye Ready." Makes sense.
  21. Vastly over-rated. Flashes of brilliance. The sale to 'Spurs was great business. Didn't do well there.

    aye ready

The reply will be interesting. This question was canvassed some years ago on FF -the old Rivals Board, I think. RMc was an "aye ready" man but changed his mind halfway through the debate. What exactly was JF saying above? I took the meaning that the motto was ""Ready" but the device on the stand showed "Aye Ready" for some reason?
  23. Scott7

    aye ready

The "aye" means "yes" rather than the Scots "ever" or "always". It comes from naval parlance where before some task is started the leading rate asks "ready?" and the working party responds "aye, ready" before hauling on a rope or swarming up a rigging or whatever matelots do. The badge on Mr Struth Will tell you the truth.

    aye ready

Google Images has a photo of Mr Struth - several in fact - which shows the grand old gentleman wearing natty braided blazer. The badge on it is the old heraldic shield with a lion superimposed on a St Andrew's cross. The left and right quadrants of the cross bear the date 18 71 . The bottom quadrant has the motto "Ready". Blow it up and get out the magnifying glass.

    aye ready

Don't trust wiki. The first Rangers calendar that I bought was 1957/58. "Ready" was the motto on it.
