  1. dB was good enough to give me some tuition in German on one of our other forums so I assist him here with the great "somesuch" issue. A word it's not but a phrase "some such" it most certainly is. Should be the same as "somehow", "somewhere" or even "nonesuch" but it's not. Just another English language trap for the foreigner. dB avoids most of them.

Cuellar was a cut above Bougherra who is several cuts above Moshni. Bit of a downward spiral there.

  2. I fear City have blown it. What happened the last time I thought that?

It's either L'pool or Chelsea now. L'pool play the more spectacular football so I hope it's them. Can they carry the burden of my expectation or is the title bound for the Bridge?

  3. "in more ways than one we need a Fergus McCann type at rangers. both to rescue us and to cease the gravy train." - gs.

What's the wee guy doing these days? We could be doing with someone not very keen on the celtic-minded. Rescued them from insolvency, built them a new stadium - ok, not the best but better than the old cp - bullied them into an appearance of acknowledging the Ibrox disaster, castigated a certain type of bigot and all in a few years. Walked off with a shilling or two at the end but at least he did a job for his dime and the tims don't like him. Perfect cv!

  4. "do Scotsmen living in Scotland believe that anyone in exile is no longer a Scot/has forfeited their birthright due to living in a different country ...... ?"

Nope. You're a Scots South African or a South African Scot. Only the SNP think otherwise. If the McFuhrer wins you'll have to apply for Scottish citizenship - if you still want it by that time.

  5. Brahim Hemdani, whom I acknowledge to be a man of wisdom wrote this:

"He (Aird) has often reminded me of Alex Scott. Unlike Willie Henderson, Alex Scott didn't beat many opponents but he was a devastatingly effective player."

I quite like Aird. He tries and doesn't hide. But Scott he's not.

Scott scored three on his debut while still in his teens and a few days later got two against the Gunners in a friendly at Highbury. He was the most direct winger I ever saw. Ian McMillan would take out one defender with the pass, Scott would rocket past the second and deliver the cross or finish it himself. A hundred + goals from the wing.

So, yes, I like Aird but he's got a long way to go to stand comparison with Scott.

  6. I see the argument for Pulis but no, not for me.

    Pellegrini? City play magical football.

Rodgers? Very strong case but my granny wasn't a good manager and she'd do all right with Suarez in the team. But hold on, the Genius needs to be managed and BR seems to have got the hang of it.

Mourhino? His record speaks for itself.

Martinez? Oh yes and what could he do at Arsenal?

Pellegrini's the one and it's still an hour or so 'til the kickoff at Anfield.

    Expect revisionism before evening.

  7. Still not a good idea, though, is it?

I seem to recall Duff & Phelps in their first report saying the Company had been using the PAYE deductions as working capital "not a sound business strategy".

It's usually a sign that a business is on its last legs is it not? Buying time. Putting off the evil day. Not many recoveries from that position I don't think.
