You didn't hear the evidence, Rab. It's quite possible to hear two different versions of an incident and not know who is telling the truth in which case the accused gets the benefit of the doubt.

In the old days the selectors plcked the eleven for the game and a reserve eleven. The reserves were mostly just as good as the first picks and there were stil plenty of good players left out. Now we're hard put to get a team plus subs, scouring the Register of Births to find Scottish grannies of Englishmen who can't make their own top forty.

I'm not in favour of strict liability. Hibs, the club, could not have prevented the exhuberance of their followers so why should they be liable?
