  1. Nobody's being over critical of the 'keeper. In a perfect world he might have stood a bit nearer to his right post. Might have got it. Might not. He shouldn't be losing any sleep. The strike was brilliant. The player's young so he might do it again some time but probably not Saturday. That should be next match day. Saturdays have been abolished.

As for Tav's goals, there's a difference from the goalkeeper's perspective between rockets on the run and free kicks. For the latter the 'keeper gets to set the agenda by his positioning and arrangement of the defence.

  2. Great thread, this, with many worthy names. I still think Willie Rae is the most notable. Here's what a gentleman named Mr Gub had to say about him in an article on FF.

"Willie Rae came to Ibrox in 1946 and was mainly considered to be a half back. Any half back at Ibrox at that time was always going to be prepared to play a waiting game because Ian McColl and Sammy Cox were the first picks.

Yet despite it all Willie played that waiting game as is testified by the fact that he made 181 appearances all told (inc war time) and won his two league badges in 46/47 and 55/56. That’s perseverance and loyalty to that blue jersey for you. Willie also had one League Cup (46/47) and one Scottish Cup badge (49/50) to add to his major domestic haul."

    Wouldn't happen today.

  3. 4 - 1 in the end to United.

    City stroll on.

Sunderland lose at home to Palace in the last minute - thought Moyes was chosen to stop that sort of thing.

Big win for 'Pool while Everton are beaten away by Bournemouth. Can't believe an idiot poster predicted them to finish above the Kloppers.

    'Spurs survive at Boro'.

WBA get a draw at Stoke. Maybe Sunderland should have gone for Pulis

Gunners to whack Chelsea to go above United. Or the other way round. Unless it's adraw.

  4. Willie Rae

    Johnnie Little

    Willie Telfer

I always felt sorry for Willie Rae. Imagne being understudy to Sammy Cox and Ian McColl but there was never a more loyal or more industrious battler for the cause than he.

The original list is fine except Dado who got plenty of singing and Ricksen whom I don't see as a hero.

  5. From their point of view we dealt them three hammer blows on the field of play more significant than run of the mill defeats.

In two successive weeks in the mid seventies when they were full of ambition and playing well, we beat them 2-0 in the Cup and 4-0 in the league both games at Ibrox, then there was the famous 2-0 wnner takes all last game of the season early in the NIAR.

It's hard to like someone who snatches your lollipop from you. On the other hand they took some horrible batterings from celtic like - dare I say it? - lambs.

  6. I don't suppose many remember the 54/55 title winners. Beautifully balanced team which proved that you don't need a bunch of star guys who can't play together and don't make the effort.

The current Aberdeen might have more cohesion than Rangers at this stage of the season ant they play such a basic system it's hard to get it wrong.
