    Lafferty

Handy lad on league decider day, though.
  2. City pummelled Everton. Toffees' 'keeper was fantastic. Not the penalties. My granny could have saved these but any amount of other brilliant stops.
  3. "I fancy them to get a draw today though. " How did you do that? Well done Baggies Monday night's the big event.
  4. Very important day for Everton. My early season confidence in them is waning.
  5. Nothing much. Not his fault. He was a finisher. Somebody else had to make the chances. After Rangers the teams he played for couldn't do that so well.
  6. No. There are a lot of decent football clubs playing in nice towns. Why inflict on them two visits by the spalpeens?
  7. Griffiths can play right enough. Everybody's got to be good at something. Tartan Army reported to be jeering. Surely not.
  8. It was indeed, Boabie. Both Alec Scott and Davie were out injured as was the 'keeper, Bill Brown.
  9. Davie Wilson - heart of a lion. Note his comment on Ian McMillan. He wasn't powerful. He wasn't fast over a distance but his rifled passes inside the fullback made a winger's job easy. Plenty of speed in the brain and the feet.
  10. I should have mentioned above that I had never heard of any of the Chesterfield players except Bonnyman, released by Rangers as not good enough. He scored.
  11. Anglo-Scottish Cup season 1980/81. First leg, 13 October 1980: Rangers 1, Chesterfield 1 Second leg, 28 October 1980: Chesterfield 3, Rangers 0 Rangers team included McLoy, Jardine, Forsyth, Jackson, Bett and Russell. Awful football event. Two games make it no fluke.
  12. Defeat by Chesterfield - yes, Chesterfield - over two legs is my most miserable memory.
  13. Not sleeping, exactly. More groggy. Hearts, Hibs and Dundee might be called sleeping giants by some but I reckon they stopped being giants before they fell asleep. In British football surely Wednesday are the classic sleeping giants.
  14. Brown Hamilton and Caldow Crerand, McNeil and Baxter Scott, White, St John, Law and Wilson. And every one of these could have been replaced by another just as good, except Baxter. We would just have had to make good with Dave McKay for him! Couldn't tell you who's playing on Saturday.
  15. "I think Terry Hurlock actually made more of an impression." Oh, yes. Much more.
  16. Being called a hun is not particularly nice but I'd rather be called that than a sheep sh@gger. As for Jock, fine by me. Used to be an honourable and affectionate term as were Taff and Paddy.
  17. The Indictment is fatally flawed. They spelled "Grantown" wrongly.
  18. I've always been nervous about the JB signing. He was player of the year at Burnley but we only signed him, not the rest of the team to give him continuity. I'd rather see him go to be honest unless it's cheaper to keep him.
  19. Great photo. I never saw a cab like the one in the background but the cuddy with the flat cart was a common enough sight post war in the wee town where I was growing up.
  20. ForeHAND smash in tennis. ForeARM smash in wrestling. But you're right about the hypebole.
