  1. Saw his debut in a friendly against Arsenal along with Alec Smith from Dunfermline. You could see his class but he did take a while to settle and for fans to realise he wasn't Baxter. Once he came to grips with what was asked of him he was absolutely outstanding. I suspect that he himself devised the role he played rather than any manager or coach.

  2. Hallowe'en segues smoothly into the season of Pantomime, Christmas is nigh and from somewhere over the rainbow in the land of Oz your fairy godmother sashays down the chimney and says: "Hullawerr, Rangurrs supporter. (Fairy godmothers talk like that) Ah can grant yeeze a wish frae this magic lamp ah got aff Aladdin. Yeeze cannae score so ah can gie yeeze wan striker oot o' the three - Aguero, Costa or Sanchez. Which is it to be? Mak' up yer mind,

"Well, FGM," says I "Aguero is the sharpest finisher. He can make chances out of his own speed and he needs to be double marked so he would create a lot of space for his fellow striker if we had one. But we might just need Silva as well to unlock defences for him.

Costa? Cracking player with a good bit of devil in him. Probably just what we need, a wee tough. But that carries big risks. He'd soon be a target for referees and the press would be merciless. I see the headline now: DIEGO CARAJO! Different story if he went to Parkhead. The scribblers would lionise him up to Lisbon status.

Sanchez. Not as fast as Aguero but slightly less of an injury risk. Can put himself about a bit but not as obviously as Costa. Doesn't score as much as the other two but pings them in from anywhere. Alan Shearer reckons central striker is the best place for him and it takes one to know one.

So, Sanchez it is, FGM, thank you very much."

"Aw right, son. Hing oot yer stockin' in the January windae an' he'll be there.

Ony buddy else say different afore ah gie yon lamp a dunt?"

  3. I was looking at film of Willie in Ian's "Rangers Entertainers" above. I'd forgotten how good the guy was pre-bunion - Willie, not Ian.

Alec Scott was a great hero succeeding the mighty Willie Waddell and he had blistering pace running on to the ball but Willie was almost as fast with the ball at his feet. Wee Jinky couldn't live with him. Sure he had circus tricks in abundance, great to watch, but where Johnstone was turning back to beat his man a third time, Willie would have got his cross in or had a go himself. If only MOH could do that.

  4. The main headline in the Aberdeen Press & Journal over their match report : "Aberdeen Cash in on (Stockan's?) Chip"

But the sub-headline is:"Rangers Ousted from Second Place"

I kid you not. "Aberdeen Up to Second" would have been understandable but no, they can only be measured in comparison with the Famous.
