  1. Some say the letter was written by Gerry Braiden. Looks more like the work of a bleating sheep.

How about, “wisnae me, it wis the ither yins, the heid yins say ah didnae dae wrang, youse are aw nae fair an’ ah’m greetin noo”?

A single paragraph of exculpation would have been enough and perhaps convincing if it had been backed up with enquiry into the deliberations of the Community Council.

  2. I hardly know celtic nowadays. Gordon’s a very good ‘keeper. Brown is effective despite the derision on here. Griffiths is dangerous. Tierney is worth £40M + and rising. But that’s it. From Evans/Tully up to Larsen/Sutton I knew who the opposition was. Not any more. Come to think of it, rattling off a Rangers team isn’t so easy either. But I can do it with a bit of thought.

  3. Two points from three away games. Should have had three at Aberdeen. Lucky to get one at Motherwell so that sort of evened itself out. Better teams than the current one have come away from parkhead with a worse score than 1-0.

The only win in the league is a handicapped 2-0 against St Mirren who lost four goals to each of Hearts and Aberdeen and lost 0-2 to promoted team Livingston.

If 55 is coming this year, which I doubt, the team has to be undefeated going into January and no careless draws.

In Europe, previous  teams would have been out by now. On the other hand nobody had heard of the opposition yet every match was testing.

So, satisfactory abroad, slightly disappointing at home but overall, a noticeable improvement.

For once I’m glad of the international break. A rest for some of the players and an opportunity for some serious drilling. I hope there will be call-offs from the international squads.

  4. The Villa are not in the EPL but they should be. They won’t though until they sack Steve Bruce. This bloke has done not much in his career. Barely gets into the Allardyce/Warnock class of manager. He’s favoured by the English media, though, in much the same way as the Two Jimmies and Jim Jeffreys/Billy Brown were idolised by the Sportsound fellows.

  5. I am not going to read the SNP constitution but I expect there will not be a clause stating the destruction of Rangers is an aim of the party. I believe, however, that many of the party members and probably even more of their followers are left of centre (the Party certainly is, according to the marxist, Salmond) republican and by definition, anti-UK.  Their perception is that Rangers are royalist and British and politically and religiously an ally of the Orange Order.  Accordingly, it is unlikely that there is much goodwill in the SNP towards Rangers. The same applies to Labour. Liberals (or, if they insist on the politics of the nursery, Lib-Dems) are always in favour of the oppressed underdog so they will disdain Rangers who are of course still top dogs. Check the title count if you’re not sure.

What’s left? Greens? I think not. They are an amalgam of all of the foregoing. Lesser parties? Waste of time. So, then, the Conservatives. Again I will not read their constitution but it’s a safe bet there is no pro-Rangers clause in it. I believe, however, that not many of the party members and probably even fewer of their followers have any notable antipathy towards Rangers.

There you go. Conservatives may not do Rangers much good but they are unlikely to do targetted harm. The least of the evils. What a way to vote, eh? But that’s politics.

A word of caution. As Gonzo has said, the well-being of your football team should not be too high on your list of priorities when you mark your fateful cross on the ballot paper.

    Have fun, Gaff.

  6. Took United to second place and won a diddy cup last season. Quite good. Better than every other club in England except City.

But with the players he had they should have been much closer to the champions.

He just has a limited shelf life at any one club.

  7. They are indeed. I was a big admirer of Liverpool from Billy Liddell onwards through the Stevenson, Hall and Heighway days, even Dalglish but I went off them after Heysel and Hillsborough. The SG connection and their excellent football may redeem them.

Brighton are no pushovers but imagine the rumblings of disquiet at Ibrox if Rangers had spent the SPL equivalent of Liverpool’s outlay and could only beat Accies 1-0 at home. Imagine the sneering in the media.

  8. Last fellows to do it were United 07/08 and 08/09.

Since the war they have won the title in consecutive seasons three times and in three consecutive seasons twice.

Liverpool have done consecutive seasons twice and three consecutive seasons once.

The title didn’t leave the city of Liverpool between 81/82 and 87/88.

Other back to back winners are Portsmouth, Wolves and Chelsea. No Arsenal.

  9. 2 hours ago, compo said:

Will be watching Manchester play Spurs on Sunday reports are saying the special one has lost the dressing room  yesterday I was listening to an interview with former Leicester and Arsenal centre Alan Smith and he was praising big Jock when he was manager at Leicester now there's a man who never lost a dressing room .

Thst must be a super-fast telly you’ve got, Compo. Game’s on Monday.

  10. R4 Today sports presenter, Gary Richardson, well off message. “Rangers unbeaten in ten, celtic creaking”. Roddy Forsyth came on to restore the balance. It’s Boyata’s fault.

GR might have said something other than “creaking”, I didn’t quite catch it. That was the gist of it, though.
