    King Kai!

Thanks, Pete. Thor himself never launched a better thunderbolt. You can see me berserking three quarters of the way up the north terrace justin the Ra;gers side of the he half line. Saw the foot go back. Saw the ball in the net. Never saw it in flight. And how reliable was Billy Ritchie. No panic.
  2. Four of the five stalwarts who stood in front of Bobby Brown in the Iron Curtain, Young, Shaw, Woodburn and Cox, were captains of the Scottish international side. Strange that Ian McColl, possibly best qualified for the job, didn’t although he was occasionally team captain of Rangers. Excellent fellow though Tavernier may be I don’t think he has the bloody-minded qualities of any of them. Shearer, Greig, Gough - they all had it in spades.

    King Kai!

Got monstered by Hughes early in his Rangers career but came on to to be a superb player who added physical strength to his assurance with the ball. Provider of one of life’s indelible memories.
  4. Week after week without a lot of outstanding fixtures. Chelsea v City is the exception. Chelsea must win for themselves and for Liverpool. I hope they don’t. Sixty + years ago Newcastle v Wolves would have been match of the day. Leaving Ashley out of it I like the Mags to prosper but I would really like Wolves to stay up so I hope they win.
  5. Thought Arsenal were going to do it tonight. Looked better than United but couldn’t keep a lead. Excellent win for the Wolves.
  6. Can’t do worse than that except one of the central defenders has to give way to John Valentine.
  7. ?Scott, McMillan, Brand and Wison Was the forward line Led by the fearless Jimmy Millar Wearing number nine.? Hymns Ancient and Modern no. 1962
  8. Here we go again. This XI will not be the same as my previous which was different from the one before. Goram; Caldow, McKinnon, Woodburn, Cox; Greig (c), Gascoigne, Baxter; Laudrup, Mols, Hateley. For a he first time ever I had a split second hesitation about Goram. The goalie was always the easiest choice with Billy reliable Ritchie as backup. But this time I had a wee thought about Allan McGregor.
  9. Remote from any other conduit of information and having five spare minutes I flicked on Pacific Shelf, sorry, Pacific Quay for confirmation that celtic had got possession of today’s prize and heard Richard Gordon begin to describe Rogers’ gracious acceptance of whatever was being given as an offering and so switched off again. It was the big Don’s tone of voice that intrigued. Auld mither Gordon’s loon sounded rueful but nonetheless happy that a personal disappointment was made better by the fact that good friends had benefited. 26th, a man of gteater fortitude than I, will no doubt give the roll call of the happy and the sad. The big question: does St Pat’s Hampden triumph make up for the Tynecastle disaster?
  10. Reprise of Marciano v Cockell? Unfair on Fury, probably. What do you think, Compo? You know more about the game than I do.
  11. Cardiff v the Wolves tonight, areprise of last season’s Championship encounters in which Wolves had the upper hand. Cardiff have a basement lookabout them. Wolves need to win to avoid sliding down to join them. Pass over Saturday’s non-events to the big Derby day. Everton must beat Liverpool eventually. Now is as good a tme as any. Arsenal will use their home advantage against the Hotspurs.
  12. I don’t have a screen for this. Is possession wasted because of bad delivery or lack of movement by potential receivers?
  13. SFA can still get themselves out of this by means of plea bargain. Rangers accept the breach of rules. SFA impose a fine of one penny and waive the right to collect in recognition of massive mitigation i.e. telling the truth. Come on, beaks. Take advantage of my free offer and avoid being a laughing stock. Any of the Rangers lawyers got the gumption to follow this line?
  14. Firminio was ineffective and Salah’s anticipator mechanism needs tuning.
  15. “Exiting” Is that a bit of prophecy, Pete?

    Scottish Cup

Leith Exhuberance as good as out. Might take a replay.
  17. Good predicting but ‘Spurs surprise you. Manchester United have a negative goal difference of 1.
  18. Sunderland have been managed worse than Rangers were for much longer and are deservedly in the basement. But up until about three years ago they still had massive attendances and a big away following. ”Bank of England” club in the 50s, Len Shackleton on the wing in front of 60,000 at Roker. Giants.
  19. Gin is for drinkers who have moved on from alcopops but aren’t ready for a real dram.
  20. Many giants of yesteryear are languishing in the cellars. Sunderland in the third tier for heaven’s sake. But you’re right. They are down there on merit or the lack of it. I’m tempted to run to the bookie with your predictions. Can’t argue with any of them.
