Gave  Scotland their best ever day at Wembley   by becoming world champions if only for  that day .

With the greatest respect to Mr Brown, the best Wembley day was when Baxter and Wilson demolished England after Caldow had been carried off. Iron Curtain teammate Ian McColl was in charge.

  2. Glamour boy of the Iron Curtain, flamboyant in style unlike his successors, Niven and Ritchie.

By all accounts an utter gentleman and still a heartthrob for elderly grannies.

Not a bad record as Scotland manager.

Expect the same thing to happen in the Alex Salmond case.

Not so sure about that. Salmond’s case is political and comes through the Edinburgh PF Office.

The effigy case on the other hand has a different location. Any low level paper gatherers with access to material are likely to have preferences which have an influence on them greater than politics.

Salmond's case is likely to fall because of the inadequacy of the witnesses rather than carelessness, shall we say, in the handling and storage of documents.

I also think a march from Ibrox after the game may get more people joining in.

The trouble is, pete, it’s hard enough getting people to stay to the end of the game never mind joining a march after it. The beckoning of the pub is irresistible.

  5. Erra final scores ramorra.

    Bournemouth 1-2 Magpies

    Burnley 2-1 Brendan’s Blues

    Hammers 3-0 Town

     Sunday

    Fulham 0-3 Liverpool

    Everton 2-2 Chelsea

    And the effy cup.

    Watford 1-2 Palace

    Swansea 1-3 City

    Wolves 1-3 United

    Millwall 0-2 Brighton

Cracking game in the Championship: Leeds 2-3 Sheffield United

  6. Surely Morelos and Defoe can play up front together. Alfredo can upset the defence and Defoe can crack them in. Defoe operates left of centre so that suggests the wide player should be on the right. Can Kent learn to make for the bye-line and cut the ball back instead of haring infield?

The defence shouldn’t be a problem but with Kent wide on the right Tav must learn to defend and the others whether 4 or 3 must learn to concentrate and anticipate attacks as they develop.

So far so good Now the midfield:Kamara defensive, McCrorie the interference but who’s the craftsman to unleash the winger or pass the ball to Defoe in space? I don’t think there’s one on the books

  7. What a team. No players like that nowadays.

Going back a bit further there was a choice of three top class goal scoring centre forwards, Laurie Reilly, Willie Bauld and Willie Thornton plus, if needed, a pretty decent tradesman Paddy Buckley, all playing in Scottish football.

What did the selectors do? They picked Billy Houliston a rummle them upper but no great finisher. Yet he might be a better choice than any of the current squad.

Hope Bates plays a starring role. Should never have sold him.

  8. The Radio 4 Today programme five minute sport slot this morning referred to Hibernian captain James Taver nee ay.

Don’t know who the bloke was. They’re usually pretty good except at tipping.

Incompetent new geezer or sinister PQ infiltration?

Am I the only one that is disappointed in the club for not coming out and going tonto about this latest assault on one of our players?

Wait til after the Court. Hibs have done all right this time. So far.

That’s a very accurate description, I’d agree with this.

You will always have some who don’t agree with you, which is perfectly understandable, but where these issues with our club are concerned, better for all to recognise that the guy they may disagree with in a forum or at the pub is not the problem that needs to be addressed.

Charles, with your petition you’ve got a big choir singing a great anthem but only the choristers are there to listen.

When you reckon you’ve got as many signatures as you’re going to get, email the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee at the SP, summarise Dornan’s blatant behaviour and tell them you’ve got whatever number of online backing. Issue a press release. Get a decent journo if you can find one to help with the wording because they know what people will read. Keep control of it yourself, though.

Better still, stand in his constituency at the next election. I’d have to move house but I’d vote for you. Anti Maggot Party sounds good.
