  1. Every one of my midweek predictions was right. It was the bloody teams that got it wrong. They must do better this time. ’Pool 2-0 Palace So’ton 2-0 City Everton 1-0 Gunners Magpies 2-1 Fulham Brighton 2-0 Blades Hotspur 2-2 Leicester United 3-2 Leeds Baggies 1-1 Villa Clarets 1-1 Wolves Chelsea 0-2 Hammers
  2. Any miscreants are likely to retire early with suitable remuneration and if they can be bothered get employment in criminal defence firms. Do Sharper McClown do that sort of business? I don’t think there’s a firm called Shettleston and Haig but there should be.
  3. If Motherwell are defeated 4-0 on Saturday all will be well. 3-1 might not be good enough. I’ll take 1-0 all the same. Some solace from last night. It’s the least of the trophies available and celtic are already out. Also, as my mother and my big sister used to infuriatingly tell me in my tantrums after a favoured team fell out of a cup: “It’s good to see the honours go round” (No it bleeding well isn’t. I still haven’t grown up)
  4. Do you mean a dram of Cardhu? The distillery’s about a mile north of Knockando. The product is more gold than yellow, though.
  5. Allardyce could probably manage them both simultaneously.
  6. Allardyce, specialist recovery merchant, just the man for the Hawthorns. Might have to play himself, though, to shore up the defence. And find an onion bag rattler. If I remember rightly, WBA were runners in the Alfie stakes in the summer.
  7. A lot of second stringers in that lineup but guess what, I’m not bothered. Not all that long ago the first choice XI terrified me.
  8. Good night for the West Midlands. Chelsea hunted down by Wolves and City, unlike every other team, can’t beat West Brom. Baggies still can’t score, though. Had to get City to do that for them. Is Guardiola bored and can’t be bothered? Would City look north for a replacement?
  9. I’ll just make the same mistakes as I do at the weekend. Wolves 0-2 Chelsea City 2-0 WBA Arsenal 2-1 So’ton Leeds 2-2 Mags Leicester 3-1 Everton Fulham 1-2 BHA Liverpool 2-0 ‘Spurs Hammers 2-2 Palace Villa 2-0 Burnley Blades 0-3 United
  10. The students at Forfar Guide Dogs, one of Scotland’s leading educational institutions, may be of an intellect and character superior to those who elected Spence.
  11. This could jeopardise the Peace Process. If I remember rightly that drink has a bigoted orange hue to it.
  12. Forecasting is easy. Getting it right’s a bugger. Leeds 2-1 Hammers Wolves 3-1 Villa (Big derby but not as savage as Wolves and West Brom) Mags 2-0 West Brom United 2-2 City (An encounter of little consequence) Everton 1-2 Chelsea So’ton 2-0 Blades Palace 0-3 Hotspur Fulham 0-2 Liverpool Arsenal 3-1 Burnley Leicester 3-1 BHA
  13. Being anti-racist is principled. Your interpretation of what Bill says is opinion. If Bill declines to comment the kite falls from the sky. If you’re looking for a real fight 26th said something jolly - geddit? - nasty about RM in another thread.
  14. An opinion you are entitled to have though I disagree with it. Bill may think otherwise but he’ll shoot your fox if he just leaves it at that.
  15. I agree with Gonzo. There should be no Silences. I don’t believe in booing anything except celtic running out of the tunnel. That luxury has been denied for a good number of years since the practice began of both teams daundering out together.
  16. Good point but no. I argue my way out of that by saying kneeling and delaying the start of the match is intrusive. A poppy image on a shirt is not, though whether it should be is a different argument.
  17. That shirt was used quite often at the time. A smart outfit. I’m a wee (ahem)) bit older than you Mack but I remember it like yesterday. I feature about 2/3 up the terrace on the halfway line. In the ground at 1-15pm for a 3pm kickoff. Plenty Dundee fans nearby cheering their team. No segregation, no trouble.
  18. 1964 SCF. Wee Wullie at the end still smoking the cigar he got from Bailie John Wilson. Great players on the park, Alex Hamilton, Bobby Cox, Andy Penman, Alan Gilzean and a goalkeeper, Bert Slater, performing miracles. Gave the Famous a terrific game but the Famous were up to it.
  19. Who wants to go to any event, sporting or cultural and watch political gesturing or be harangued by actors if the event is in a theatre? I can’t be bothered with any pre-event activities at all and that includes minutes of silence. In football terms, just run down the tunnel and get on with it. No handshakes, no mascots no staged photographs.
  20. Aren’t they committed to a lot of lucrative friendlies?
  21. Didn’t join the game until the beginning of the second half and was taken off just after the third goal. Random observations. Pressing the defender in possession is a good idea. At best you win the ball, second best the clearance is a duffer, worst case you open yourselves to an attack but not if the advanced midfield is alert. Bassey gave the ball away on a couple of occasions. Four of his mates closed round him and exchanged short passes with him to get him settled. Didn’t stop him ball watching at an easy chance for County, though. Watching for nearly twenty minutes before McGregor was even seen. I didn’t get to see Defoe. Didn’t have to to know he is an asset of the highest class.
