  1. @26th of foot mentions Joe Baker. What a centre forward. Colin Stein with booster rockets. Smashed himself up in a car crash while at Torino but recovered to play for Arsenal and England. But despite his place of birth and the nationality of his dad he was a Scotsman. Unlike Denis Law he talked like a Scotsman but like Law he played with the talented Scotsman’s arrogance.

Wilson was a very proficient ‘keeper and played excellently for Scotland but otherwise he didn’t seem very Scottish. Played with the absolute confidence of English goalkeepers of his vintage.

Joe’s brother Gerry played for St Mirren and quite well for Hibs but was not in the same class as Joe. Gerry was capped by the US! One Scotsman played for England and his brother for US. Can’t be right.

started with Jack Charlton and Ireland but it seems to have spread everywhere now).

Jack Charlton was manager not player but I know what you mean. There was always some elasticity between South America and Spain but the great Hungarian, Puskas playing for Spain was a bit odd.

In my day Scotland had players of the calibre of Law, Baxter,  McKay even wee jinky that were a pleasure to watch in my opinion I were a player picked to play with the present day tits I would rather take the downtime to spend with my family .

Maybe only you and I will mind this, compo, maybe @Billkeekin’ out of his pram but this team, no Gers, no Celts, would do fine:

    Brown (Dundee/‘Spurs)

    Hamilton (Dundee)

    Parker (Falkirk/Everton)

    Cumming (Hearts) Captain

    Yeats (Dundee Utd/Liverpool)

     McKay (Hearts/‘Spurs)

    Leggat (Aberdeen)

    Young (Hearts/Everton)

    St John (Motherwell/Liverpool)

    Gilzean (Motherwell/‘Spurs)

    Mulhall (Aberdeen/Sunderland)

Players like Law who never played in the Scottish League are omitted but there was enough talent for the reserves, Slater, Cox, Ure, McCann, Beattie, Quinn Martin and plenty.

I missed out John White! Dottled early today.

I would have a guess at a Man City v Leicester final. The Champions league may have an impact on Man City and Chelsea game

The Form Book says you are right but I have a foreboding that it’s going to be Chelsea and Southampton. I started the Chelsea v Blades but gave up after twenty minutes. Could have been Kilmarnock v St Johnstone. Never mind the football. Chelsea are getting the results.

  5. An attractive set of league fixtures but I’m glad there’s nothing at stake except reputation, prestige and terrifying the opposition for next season.

That last bit’s quite important. So nerves and anxiety for 5x90 minutes as usual.

you are at it as ever. Frankly you spend a lot of time on a team you come across as hating

I don’t think so, gs. Red card because of recklessness rather than evil intent. Should Roofe have gone for it?  I can’t make up my mind. @PoohBear and @johnnykhave different opinions. Either could be right.

    Ritchie

    Shearer Caldow

    Greig McKinnon Baxter

    Henderson McMillan Millar Brand Wilson

That’s the team I call the Rangers.

Though I know perfectly well that on most of the occasions I watched Ian McMillan, Harry Davis was his protection and Alex Scott was his winger.

  8. McMillan is the most accurate  passer of a football I have ever seen. Long, raking, slide rule passes into space for Scott to race onto or lightning quick short passes to foot to ignite Henderson, he was brilliant. He could also bring a ball under instant control despite harassment from defenders and he scored a few. Can’t remember much about his heading ability.
