    From Football 365.

UEFA reportedly offered the Premier League clubs who signed up for the Super League ‘significant’ money to withdraw from the breakaway competition.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea announced their intention to join the Super League on Sunday night, but have already withdrawn from the competition.

The outrage of the fans, pundits, players, managers, other clubs and stakeholders is thought to have been a major factor in their decision to back out and John W Henry claims the project would never have gone ahead without the support of the Liverpool fans.

But according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via Caughtoffside) there was another key factor in the U-turn from the Premier League six.

The report claims it wasn’t quite the righteous win for football we had hoped, with the six not reversing their decision due to ‘threats’ but because they were ‘offered a lot of money’. With the future of the Champions League and Europa League threatened, UEFA dug into their pockets for a solution.

Mundo Deportivo adds that the Spanish trio of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are seen as the ‘main enemy’ of UEFA and the money was not offered to those clubs.

If true the Spaniards must have a grounds for action against Uefa. Inducement to breach contract, perhaps.

I always think Brian Clough was the ultimate turn a small club around

Only lasted the customary 44 days at Leeds. I knew he was in and out at Elland Road but I hadn’t realised it was the same period as Stein.

Clough was an excellent centre forward before a bad injury finished him. Saw him score two in a 6-6 draw in a friendly at Easter Road. Joe Baker got four for the Hibs.

I had no idea Stein even went to Leeds. Was this around the time Brian Clough went there for about 40 days or something like that

Correct. You’re a bit hard on Stein, though. He did 44 days.

  4. Stein is a classic example. Won a cup at Dunfermline, changed Hibs into a football team and transformed a bunch of also-rans in the east end. Failed at Leeds but that wasn’t surprising in the circumstances.

I wonder what Hibs would have achieved if he had stayed.

Scott7 has still to put on his forecasts

I was waiting for the results. I would have been wrong about Fulham v Wolves. Relegation seems settled now. Disappointed about the three going done. There are others I would have preferred and the likely replacements aren’t electrifying.

May as well have a go at the rest of the card:

    City 2-1 Leeds

    Liverpool 3-0 Villa

    Palace 0-2 Chelsea

    Burnley 1-0 Mags

    Hammers 2-1 Leicester

    Hotspur 2-2 United

    Blades 0-2 Gunners

    Baggies 2-1 So’ton

    Brighton 2-1 Everton

Of course, I don't want to jinx it; however, Paul's results have been poor : Alloa lost 7-0, Dundee lost 4-0 and, Falkirk succumbed 4-1.

A seven goal victory might do, I suppose but I want more. I want to see Cove humiliated. No plucky lower league nonsense. No consolation goal at the end. Make them change in the bus and no cup of tea at half-time either. If Rangers don’t dish out a good trouncing Mr Gerrard may have questions to answer.
