  1. Ryan Jack has only played about 100 league games in the 5 full seasons he’s been at Rangers. Not a lot is it?

His contract is up at the end of the season & I doubt it’ll be renewed

    Hes never Rangers captain material

Ask yourself that. Competing is about fighting together, creating chances for each other , taking shots - it's not all about the final score. How many clubs have hundreds of millions to spend? If clubs without that level of spending cannot compete, the CL would be dead. Again, competing doesn't mean winning the CL.

Agree. I’d said in a post at HT that the team selection & tactics were as if we were playing Motherwell or someone in the SPFL

Not the point- Zagreb showed you don't need 100s of millions to compete.

Having 100s of millions is not doing Liverpool any favours tonight either

Maybe Klopp not the wonder manager he’s made out to be. Domestically not great in 7 years

GVB also stated Tav is injured and has been for a couple of weeks despite denying that in Fridays press conference and despite us moving on our back up RB during the transfer window....

It’s too easily forgotten Tav was signed as a EFL1 RB. At this level that shows

Limited options tonight down to injuries and poor squad management

Yes but could we not withdraw Wright or Kent & put on another MF player?

this is the champions league. It’s not Motherwell we’re playing

  6. The team selection tonight is similar to what we’d pick in the SPFL.

This is the Champions league. We seem to be short in MF. Could we have gone 4-4-2?

We have Kent and Wright contributing absolutely nothing. Wright infuriatingly continues to give the ball away under no pressure.

GvB needs to pick a team and tactics for who we’re playing. You can’t play the same players & tactics at this level that we play in the SPFL

The club are changing but need to speed up the emphasis on youth. Not easy but necessary. As FFP regulations are gradually introduced, our youth system/pathway has to gradually take over and provide say, half of our starting XI.

The full details and ramifications of FFP need to be spelled out (via third parties?) prior to the club communicating with the support on the continuing way forward and the patience that will be required. eg. AGM 2022

We need to be clear that things are changing and resource allocation will be  different/challenging.

I’d doubt very much indeed if we’ll ever see half of our first team starting XI from our youth system. For whatever reason we don’t produce enough youths who are good enough for where we want to be. Last week against QoS we had three(Devine,King & Ure) in the starting XI and I can’t say I was greatly impressed with any of them.

Our future(in my opinion) lies with low cost Alfredo Morelos-type signings and out-of-contract players of the likes of Lundstrum, Lawrence, Jack etc. That may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I see little alternative

There's definitely a problem when the players aren't doing the basics.  Not doing the basics resulted in all four goals.

    Quite unbelievable!

Exactly. What I’ve been saying since yesterday.

Basic defending is man-marking. Who was supposed to be marking Abada at both of his goals?

When defending our own box every player must stick like glue to an opponent. Win the personal  battles and there’s less chance of conceding

    That didn’t happen yesterday.

Don't remember if it was on here(had my Sunday bottle of wine) but it is easy to train players to use the ball quickly from free-kicks/throw-ins etc.I done it with a primary school team in the early 90's.

But much harder to get players to always be alert to defend the quick free kicks/ throw ins….

Yes you can. If you have the right players who fit in to a coherent system. At this stage, I'm not sure what our system or playing identity is under Gio.

And instruct players how to mark opponents properly. Who was marking Abada at both of his goals today?

  11. 2 hours ago, DMAA said:

I think that’s an oversimplification. They have very good goalscorers in their team. It isn’t a coincidence that Abada always seems to have 5 yards of space at the back post, he is very good off the ball. Sure, poor defending is involved, but good forwards will always make defenders look bad.

Until we start to properly mark Abada & Jota at CP we will continue to struggle there. Who was marking Abada at both of his goals?

What does it matter how good or bad they are in the CL? What difference will that make to what we witnessed today or our chances the next time we meet them? It's exactly this kind of point-scoring pissing contest that hides the truth.

You were telling us what a great manager postecoglue is.
we need to sort out our defensive & goalkeeping problems first

Look at the outlay on transfer fees between each starting XI and subs. Money doesn’t buy success but it helps get good players.

Most of their players only cost 2 or 3 million each. It’s who you buy not how much you pay.
