  1. Good luck to Michael Beale if he is indeed the new Rangers manager. I only hope he’s got the assurances & guarantees he’ll need from the board and in particular our DoF and our supporters are patient with him and realise there’s no magic wand to sort things
  2. I don’t recall him saying he was happy with the squad but if he did he was badly mistaken. And if he was happy with our recruitment model(where Wilson takes all the decisions?) then it is no surprise to me that the appointment of our next manager/head coach seems to be taking forever. No manager worth his salt would allow a DoF like Wilson to pick and choose his playing staff
  3. Sometimes you need to have a reality check unfortunately
  4. I’d like to think he manager/head coach would have more than ‘some input’
  5. But there are times when you have to hold up ur hands and accept what you’ve got at ur disposal simply isn’t good enough for what ur up against as we found out
  6. Just seems to me(from what you’re saying) if the DoF screws it up then the manager on a hiding to nothing if he’s got little or no input to recruitment
  7. Is it not what you’re suggesting? You said the DoF is in charge of recruiting. if he signs duds whose fault is it? I accept almost all clubs have a DoF/sporting director. Perhaps some better at their jobs than others
  8. None of those three are in the same league as Liverpool & Napoli
  9. So the DoF is in charge of recruitment but if the signings are duff it’s the manager’s fault? 😳
  10. If thats how we’re run then we might as well chuck it. Others (in addition to the manager) have their responsibilities too.
  11. There is a colossal gulf between the EL and the top teams in the CL
  12. Lack of investment in squad? not having full control of recruitment?
  13. ‘some very difficult circumstances to operate in’ unless this is addressed then his successor will meet with the same fate as GvB. I think it’s obvious what he’s referring to
  14. not sure the injuries were solely his fault. Signing players with known injury records was madness. And I’m not sure our current first team squad was ever going to be good enough to compete in the CL group we were in
  15. During the 1978 WC in Argentina black tape was tied around the bottom of the goalposts at all WC matches in recognition of the ‘political prisoners’ who’d disappeared since the military junta took control of the country a couple of years previously. If you watch games from the 1978 WC you can see this
  16. It’ll be interesting to see what Michael Beale’s title will be. I suspect it might be Head Coach or something which would make sense. The days when a club had a manager such as we had with Jock Wallace,John Greig, Souness etc are long gone where they controlled everything The DoF/ Sporting director role at most big clubs has been created to take away a lot off the previous non-football duties of the manager such as transfers, contracts etc allowing the head coach to focus on management of the first team squad and match tactics, game plans etc But the DoF/Sporting director needs to be able to work with the head coach on these matters. I’m not convinced that was the case with GvB & Ross Wilson .
  17. I had the misfortune to have to listen to SSB this afternoon when they were discussing Michael Beale and his imminent appointment as Rangers manager. They were saying he was inexperienced & how would he handle transfers, contracts and everything else that goes with the job. Much of that nowadays ( as I believe) is done by the DoF/Sporting director allowing the manager to focus on the squad and prepare them for the games, arranging tactics etc. Beale should be fine with that. It’s our DoF I worry about and what his role has been in these last 2 transfer windows. My advice to Michael Beale would be to ensure he has full control of signings.
  18. It will be interesting to see who will be in Beale’s coaching staff.
  19. I’d have thought we’d have contacted QPR long before now. That suggests to me we’ve not interviewed Beale yet
  20. Of course they don’t guarantee anything but they do give an idea of a candidate’s experience & suitability.
  21. The problem with appointing Beale is that there are clearly other candidates with much better CV’s.
  22. I’d like to be a fly on the wall at the interviews. Especially if it was Robertson & Wilson doing the interviews. And any serious candidate who’d done any research on rangers at the last two transfer windows would have had plenty questions to ask
  23. The problem with appointing Michael Beale is that we have(allegedly) interviewed candidates with better CV’s. Gerrard Seaonne for one.
  24. I believe KT will be involved in Beale’s team. Tom Culshaw too.
