  1. Boy does that bring back memories. I was a young lad at the time and I was allowed to sit on the wall at track side. One memory I have of that game is the singing of the Rangers support, which was spine tingling. Do you remember in those days they used to sell glossy posters of players (cant remember if they came with newspapers) which were all rolled up in what looked like long white tubes? The poster on sale that day must have been popular because when the Rangers end started singing "We are the People" all I remember is nearly every arm in the air with what looked like a long white baton. It's hard to describe but to a young kid it looked immense. [bTW '54' all my family came from the Gallowgate and nearby. My uncle lived above Terry's the tattoo place at the bottom of Bluevale Street. We lived down Orr Street\Forbes Street, heading towards the ABC picture hall at Bridgeton Cross, but we were always up on the Gallowgate. We used to get sent into wee Johnny Ionta's barbers for a 'Perry Como' haircut. ]
  2. We've played quite a number of cup games in there in the past as a neutral venue e.g. Hibs, Hearts (Gazza fighting with Ally), Aberdeen (a few times). Unless I'm missing something I don't see what is different now. They also played a cup final at Ibrox when they lost to Jimmy Nichol's Raith Rovers.
  3. Still uncertainty as to whether that could ever be together as a team, or separately. My worry is that if DK goes alone it could further fragment opposition to the status quo. United we stand, divided we fall, and all that.
  4. Excellent and very interesting interview. Personally it strengthens further my belief that Dave King is key to us really taking that next step. A major investor who wants to invest (with no ulterior motive) and a true blue to boot. I would be very saddened to see this opportunity disappear.
  5. Spot on
  6. We can agree to disagree.
  7. I think it pretty much sums up what we've always known about King all along - he has serious money to invest, but only when all the corporate hangers on are out of the way and the money can go straight into the Club. Still good to see it straight from the horses mouth every now and again though. And before anyone comments "why should Ally be given any more money just now - we need to stop spending it". Dave King has stated all along that this Club needs to have money in reserve when the time comes to challenge that smug swarm over at Breezeblock Boulevard. He will ensure that there is the required level of financial governance with any investment he makes, which he has already clearly stated also. Personally I seriously hope that the day comes when I can take my hat off to the new King. And doesn't it have a much better ring to it than Green or Whyte?
  8. Don't bank on it. He could just be jostling for position on the inside rails. He's letting the world know that neither side have men willing to invest, but guess what? He knows 'just the man'. Read his statement. What's the alternative for him if he wants involved, other than being part of the McColl team? Is he going to rally support from existing investors and form his own 'team'? I don't see it, and King is not the type to shout from the rooftops if he was planning a 'late run'. He's not going to go to anyone with a cap in hand. He has an ego like a lot of these guys and he knows they need him as much as he needs them if they both want to achieve their aims.
  9. I totally agree that a Miller and Daly combination would rip them apart at the back, but they would also rip us apart at the back. So it then comes down to 'ammunition' i.e. midfield and wide men and I think we still would fall a bit short. More importantly though - Ally would never play 2 up front against them in a cup tie - not a chance in hell.
  10. I always find comments like that quite ignorant. This is a guy who has been the ultimate professional. Never given anything less than everything he has in every game. Then when he is written off he turns up against England at Wembley and turns their defence inside out with one of the best goals you have ever seen scored by Scotland at Wembley. And a couple of weeks later he is getting called an OAP.
  11. I'm going to disagree with you on that one on a technicality GS. You are right in that they are not working together - just yet. However they are in correspondence over current events, and I don't think it would take too much to bring King on board. What better way for McColl to bring investors on side by selling the fact that he has someone in the 'team' with a proven record of ploughing serious cash into the Club?
  12. King has stated before that he doesn't want that. He has always been a genuine true blue who just wants a say in how the Club is run, and more importantly for me, to put some of his cash into seeing a better product on the park, without some 'chancer' making money out of his investment. If McColl gets the outcome he wants then I have no doubt King will emerge, but if it remains the status quo I don't see DK being a big player (unfortunate as I think that would be). If DK does emerge as a key player, I for one will sleep comfortably.
  13. The parting of wisdom can make one....just smile, as you say.
  14. Very profound, but I think that is what he meant.
  15. Because this time he will feed the media 'dirt' which they will never turn down. What you are talking about is turning on the media, which is a different ball game to these guys who have to work hand in hand with them.
  16. Aside form the controversy around whether you support Murray or Mather I think that is an excellent statement. No ambiguity.
  17. What stands out for me is that it is supposed to be a statement from a party willing to negotiate, but it's written in such a 'them' and 'us' style its either telling us (a) the incumbent board are setting up for a fight, or (b) today's corporate world have no time for teaching the art of negotiation skills, or communication through diplomacy i.e. lack of talent as you say. I fear that (b) is the case which is why I feel it is such an amateur statement. The only way it could be (a) is if a large part of their statement is lies i.e. they are ready to compromise.
  18. Treat them like lords and they will be kind towards us? I think we've found out through long experience if they despise you it runs deeper than you being nice to them or not.
  19. Whoever wrong that piece of condescending shit of a statement should be a fucking prisoner. I couldn't work out why I was getting more and more angry as I read through it. I then realised that it was because it was someone trying to take me for a fool, and doing it in such a god awful manner that they think I'm not only a fool but an absolute fecking idiot. It was like watching those politicians just before a general election telling you how they will save you a fiver a week on the price of some shitty little commodity while raising your taxes by £400 a year - like you are thick! I can't stand anyone telling me that they should be considered 'good' because they have have proof that the 'opposition' are 'bad'. Again like the worst politicians, but even worse it's a tactic often used by those at Breezeblock Boulevard. One of the worst statements I've ever seen coming out of my Club. No its the worst in fact. Utterly horrible and completely devoid of Rangers class. Fuck am I annoyed by that shit? Does that even look remotely close to a mob looking to find unity and solidarity behind the great Rangers name that issues a statement like that for public consumption? It reads like an internal company tit-for-tat email. I actually thought Mather could potentially be OK but if he is behind a statement like that he has no grasp of what being a Rangers Man even stands for. Am I too old school? Are there younger posters than me who find this OK? I'm sad but interested. because I'm not saying I'm right
  20. Colin Howell - not the double murderer dentist from Northern Ireland I hope? Maybe that's plan B if he can't vote Stockbridge etc off.
  21. As you allude to - in a game of poker your winning pot won't be too substantial if you show your hand too early.
  22. Although no surprise, still good to hear that this time he really means business (hopefully )
  23. I may be nit picking, and failing to see the bigger picture, but with Stockbridge I can't get that video out of my head that he took of Malcolm Murray, while some female (who was obviously with him) was constantly firing out obscenities about MM. Stockbridge has just come across to me as a classless little snide since then. In days gone by anyone who had done that within our corridors would have been out the door without their feet touching the marble staircase. For all his critics etc can you imagine the likes of Alastair Johnston doing something like that?
