In tribute to those that perished in the Ibrox disaster 1971
Anchorman replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
For those of us who were born it is not a day that will ever be forgotten. -
Can you define that statement a bit more? Any criminal offence? Only if you have been caught? Known associates?
-
I must admit that is one bizarre statement to me. I did wonder why you were trying to 'hang him out to dry' on a Rangers forum. This is the same guy who was the last man standing after Whyte came in "saying I will not walk out the door unless I'm pushed. The man is an imposter". Whyte struggled to get him out the door. This is the same man who was first on the scene to meet McCoist at Ibrox after Admin. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17132094 This is the man who gave the Club £20M for no return. And he is comparable to the Easdales?? Unbelievable!
-
2 crucial points being missed here I think. (1) Which one do you think will come first - us needing a major cash injection before we hit Admin 2, or us finding a solution that allows us to 'stand on our own two feet' financially? I think we know the answer to that and that is why I welcome the right investor at this stage. (2) There is this naive perception of Dave King as a 'sugar daddy' who will come in with his 'wads' and say (while chewing on a fat cigar and wearing a Stetson hat) "here you go boys - loadsa money!!". When the reality is King has clearly stated that he would "not invest again without signs of clear financial\fiscal governance". He also stated that there would have to be a structure in place to ensure that any investment would be made available "when it was needed to compete with our rivals across the city". For a guy who left Glasgow with a tenner and was once quoted as the "richest man in South Africa", who has been around Ibrox for decades in one shape or form, he doesn't half get treated like some 'new cowboy' who has rode over the horizon riding his horse backwards. It makes me laugh.

Aberdeen were supposed to be moving to a new eco-stadium out at Cove and the architects drawings and plans were all in the final stages a few years back. Has that been shelved? If so, it tells it's own story I think.

So are most of the articles on here Zappa e.g. the board, McCoist, etc. We won't be left with much if we stop all conversations that have been done to death!
-
I would imagine DK will have sought advice from the people that do matter. He doesn't strike me as the type who would walk past the organ grinder to have a word with his monkey. I would imagine Regan will have an influence over any decision.
-
To be honest I'm no legal eagle, but this is what I'm basing my assumption on. Dave King started conversations with the SFA over a year ago, and apparently he has had a few conversations with Regan etc. King seems very confident, although I think he might have let the cat out the bag a little bit early which left Regan a bit red faced, which is why he was quick to deny any agreement. Unless Regan back-tracks (which would surprise nobody) I think it may already be a done deal.
-
I would still love to see Arthur Numan given a role in some capacity. From what I gather he was doing an excellent job as manager of the Dutch B squad, and also as a scout for Aston Villa in the Netherlands. He would walk on glass to come back to Ibrox if asked.

My 'displeasure' is based on my belief that what is winning us games in the league we currently find ourselves will not even come close to getting us an acceptable amount of wins in the league we belong in. Let's not get away from the fact that ours is a very unique situation i.e. we are in a league we do not belong in. We are a very big fish in a very small pond. Normally it is a results driven business when teams have found their level in terms of the league they are playing in, and if they happen to do well in that league because of a good run of results it is a bonus. Our situation is entirely different. Any manager we have at the moment must come through these lower leagues at first attempt, and it shouldn't be applauded - we are in totally inferior leagues to where we belong. So I would argue that in our unique situation it is not purely results driven. Our manager must show that he is going in the right direction to being able to deliver results when it really becomes results driven i.e. in the top league, which is our level. I believe the signs are not good on that front. If he turns it around and the signs start looking good I will be first on here to say "sorry Ally - I was wrong".

The big glass I had when I posted that has worn off a bit. Wallace doesn't give me the same feeling that I got from David Holmes but at this moment I do trust him for some reason. David Holmes stands on his own for me for class. A lot of people think Murray brought Souness, but who can forget David Holmes - "Ladies and gentleman - I give you - Graeme Souness'. He acted like a custodian of our Club, not an owner, and I wish his tenure could be respected a bit more. A Falkirk fan who fell in love with our Club.
-
I do believe he will prove you wrong. ( I hope )
-
I think you will find that is not the case. And even if Liewell finds a way (very doubtful) to bend rules, he can't stop King investing, director or not. Anyone who thinks King's investment is dependent on a 'blazer' either has a short memory or is too young to remember. King will invest as soon as he knows nobody will benefit from his investment apart from the team. And he is as hard nosed an individual as they come - the more resistance he gets the more determined he will become - just ask SARS.

While I would never criticise Jig for work rate etc and fight for the cause - is the ego being allowed to prevail over sense? Penalty kicks - I watched Clark sheepishly hand the ball over to Jig as he bullied his way to yet another penalty take. Is Jig going to be our long term penalty taker? Shouldn't someone else take over the mantle now - for the benefit of the Club, and to give them confidence in a season where the league is already won? I think we know the answer - and it is not 'building for the future'. I heard on Talksport the other day that in Germany they train kids to take penalties after every kids game (DB - is this true?).
-
Thats what worries me.
-
I'm the same as you. 'Trust in Allah - but tie up your camel just in case' and all that. But at some point in life you have to trust some people more than others. And before anyone asks: D Holmes - Absolutely ( I wish we had him now) D Murray - yes I did C Whyte - no - not once C Green - once or twice fell for some flannel G Wallace - gives me the same feeling that D Holmes did. His record with Man City is something he will not want tarnished. He is trustworthy in my book, but I'm not sure if he even knows whether he was used as a pawn to lure investors past the point of the AGM or whether he has a future with us. I hope he has.
-
Stooge is probably the wrong phrase. I trust Wallace, but my concern is that this board have brought him in because of his obvious credibility, to get them through an AGM, and I worry if that is the case, will they try to get rid of him?
-
(1) No (unless Wallace has been used as a stooge to get them through the AGM). (2) Dave King will never want to, nor be asked to, take over Rangers. He will only choose to invest once this board show compromise to a degree. One way would be the addition of at least one of the requistioners. King felt there was still an outsider influencing the current board, which will only change if they let someone 'from the other side' on the board, which would prove they have nothing to hide. King will not invest if he continues to think they are being influenced behind the scenes.

I will stick on my donkey ears and go sit in the corner. I just read the headline and thought he was gone for good. Loan deal makes all the difference.

I can see where you are coming from as I remember frequently pulling my hair out when we played 5 across the back at home to St Johnstone etc under Wattie, but we were winning leagues. I get that bit. I'm not sure how else we are supposed to voice displeasure about a manager we don't rate, without it being called OTT. I could be wrong but I don't see anything personal being stated etc. We aren't happy and we have the right to state it in a constructive way. I disagree that the time for judgement isn't now. I think it most certainly is now (although it is all about opinions). If we wait until we get into the top division it will be way too late. If you change manager then, he will want a budget to bring in his own players etc, and we will effectively be starting again. The one thing that would unify us all behind Ally is if the team was showing signs of promise, and a brand of football that we could get behind. If we could see his vision. Why doesn't he come out and tell us what his vision is in terms of how he wants his team to play? I have always wanted him to succeed, but more than that I have wanted my Club to succeed. Unfortunately I don't see the two desires being possible. I've given him lots of time and now I can't believe in him any more.

Are you suggesting that Wenger and Mourinho are not all they are made out to be, or that Ally has as much talent? Monday night was a 'one-off' especially where Arsenal are concerned. Ours is prolonged.

Or man-manage\nurture them when obvious talent loses the way a little bit. This boy has talent in abundance. He hasn't lost it. He just didn't have anyone around him who knew how to get it back out of him again. We will regret this one.

I keep saying though - for me it is not about one game. I've said it in games we have won. The football is (often extremely) poor most of the time even through the run of wins. There is no sign of improvement whatsoever in all the time he has been there. If some people say it is slightly better than last year then I'm not going to split hairs over that. It was so low last year there was only one way to go. Can you honestly say that our rate of progress in a footballing sense is on schedule for where we will need to be in 18 months or whatever it is? I am saying right now that in my view there is not a hope in hell of that being the case while the 3 amigos are at the helm of the footballing side. I stood feet way from them at Stirling Albion and could hear every word. The only thing McCoist could shout the whole game was "keep it going lads". I thought it was an under 11s 7-a-side match. Durrant told McCoist it was shite. McCoist blew a gasket at Durrant, who then proceeded to sit down in front of the dugout and make snide remarks for the remainder of the game, while McCoist blew his top at him every now and then. I couldn't believe this was the Rangers management team who would be in charge of trying to get us back to the top. I respect your opinion, but I will need a helluva lot to change mine.

Mr McCoist's ineptitude will continue to get masked behind this 'poor Ally and what he has had to put up with' until we are back in the SPL getting battered by the likes of Dundee Utd etc, and by then folk will realise (some of us at least. Others will still see him with a cape on with a big 'S' on the front) that he just plain doesn't have it. Nobody is asking for Louis Van Gaal - and well you know it. The place needs a shake up. Any number of decent managers could have the team playing better and getting similar win ratio stats. The football is rank more often that it is good. And one of the points I was alluding to earlier - would I rather the cost cutting saved Ally's £400K position but we lost the likes of Wallace and Lewis MacLeod? Or would I rather we keep our good players and bring in another manager on half the salary? It would have to be the latter for me.
