  1. Billy Dodds insists he never had a side contract during his Rangers days and was not aware of any others doing so. The former striker was paid using an employment benefit trust but told BBC Scotland that it was a one-off method of terminating his deal. The Scottish Premier League has now appointed an independent commission to rule on Rangers' use of EBTs. On the possibility of titles being stripped retrospectively, Dodds said: "For me, absolutely, no." The SPL say the commission will determine whether Rangers acted "in breach of the relevant SPL rules". A spokesman for the league added: "In the event that the independent commission decides that such breach or breaches occurred the independent commission will have powers to determine what sanctions, if any, are appropriate." Continue reading the main story “I signed and walked away with my money. That was it. It was just paperwork to me” Billy Dodds Rangers 1999 - 2003 The Ibrox club's use of the scheme was the subject of a tax tribunal, which has yet to deliver a verdict. EBTs were administered by the company that formerly ran Rangers during the first decade of this century. And a BBC documentary, "Rangers, The Men Who Sold The Jerseys", found evidence suggesting 38 Rangers players had received side-letters giving undertakings to fund their sub-trusts with cash. Scottish FA rules state that all payments made to players in respect of their earnings from football must be declared. Dodds, who left Rangers for a second spell with Dundee United in 2003, had earlier denied receiving payment via an EBT. However, he was one of the players listed in the BBC Scotland programme. "I was due a lump sum for leaving Rangers and going to Dundee United; what was left on my contract," Dodds explained. "I received the exact amount after tax, which was £190,000. "I left it all to my advisors and I got what I was due. I signed and walked away with my money. That was it. It was just paperwork to me. "There was no side contract. I got a one-off payment. I didn't have a clue about EBTs at the time. "I was not aware of any other side contracts. Nobody talks about things like that in the dressing room. "I know footballers are often deemed thick, but they don't run around telling people how much they earn. It's just a no-no in football. "My advisors took care of every deal at every club I went to and there were a few! "They just said it was going through a trust fund. "Every single footballer would tell you the same thing. When you are due an amount of money, after tax, when you get that you are happy." Manager Ally McCoist has said Rangers will "never accept" being stripped of any of their titles. And Dodds, who won one SPL title, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup during his three-year stint at Ibrox, thinks such a decision would be harsh. "The players went out on the pitch and earned the titles, sweated blood and guts to win them," he said. "And players who had EBTs at the time did not stop to think twice about it. "I can see that there was maybe a small advantage for the club but as players and coaches you don't think about it." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19122299
  2. Saturday, 28 July 2012 MALCOLM MURRAY AND ZEUS CAPITAL MALCOLM MURRAY must be having sleepless night as he ponders his commitment to Charles Green and the faceless men who own Rangers. For Malcolm Murray is the chairman and he knows that position means he is the man who will be legally responsible if anything goes wrong. My information is Malcolm Murray is growing more and more uneasy with the relationship which exists between the faceless men who hide behind the Blue Pitch Holdings collective and their hired hands inside Ibrox, chief executive Charles Green, plus the two Zeus Capital representatives on the Sevco board, Imram Ahmad and Brian Stockbridge. I have been told that even Malcolm Murray does not know who it is who is hiding behind Blue Pitch Holdings, despite the fact that as chairman of Sevco he has certain legal obligations. And now Malcolm Murray is realising there is a real and growing danger to his reputation for probity. And that is something which should scare Malcolm Murray. If what I have been hearing from well informed sources in Manchester, where Zeus Capital have their headquarters, is correct, Malcolm Murray is making more and more enquiries of the merchant bankers as to just who it is who is behind Blue Pitch Holdings. The timing of this also appears to coincide with the bid documents from Brian Kennedy, relating to his firm and formal £5.6M offer for 51per cent of Sevco, being lodged with Zeus Capital in Manchester. Chairman Murray must now surely be growing more and more concerned about the state of the financial situation inside Rangers which could see the club back on the slippery slope to administration again. For events over the last few days have once again served to underline that Charles Green and Sevco are seen as a bad bet by banks. Charles Green still cannot sort out proper corporate banking facilities. And thatâ??s a fact. Despite the snake oil salesman spiel which spews from Charles Greenâ??s mouth. Despite the lies which Charles Green continues to spout. The proof lies with the arrangements Rangers have had for selling tickets to their fans for the match away to Brechin. Supporters who tried to order the briefs in the usual way, over the phone, paying by credit or debit card, were told they could not. They were informed they had to make their way to the ticket office at Ibrox and pay in hard cash or by cheque. Greenâ??s lackeys tried to get away with a cock and bull story about the credit card machines being off line. Lies! That was at the start of the week. By the end of the week, after Brechin sent extra tickets to Ibrox, fans were once again warned it was cash or cheques only. All of this merely added to chairman Malcolm Murrayâ??s concern as to just what is going on inside the Ibrox boardroom when he is not there. Which is most of the time. The tickets fiasco, the lack of clarity concerning the beneficial owners, Charles Greenâ??s offhand and blatant lying reaction to Brian Kennedyâ??s formal £5.6M bid for 51 per cent of Sevco and that offer document arriving at Zeus Capitalâ??s Manchester headquarters, have all added up to a major headache for chairman Malcolm Murray. Which is why, this weekend, Malcolm Murray, who knows what his fiduciary duty as Sevco chairman is, along with his moral duty as a Rangers supporter, is such a worried, concerned and even nervous man. My advice to Malcolm Murray would be to protect the club he loves and fulfill his moral duty to Rangers and at the same time protect himself by doing his legal and fiduciary duty, by speaking out. If he has found out the names of the faceless men behind the shadowy Blue Pitch Holdings, then he should name them. If he does not know who they are, then he should make that public. If he does, then I am sure Malcolm Murray will find it easier to do what comes natural to any babe in arms. Sleep easy oâ?? nights
  3. reworded Supporters Assembly press release TIME TO CALL THE SFA TO ACCOUNT The Rangers Supporters Assembly today welcomed the news that, at last, Rangers FC is able to start playing football matches. However there is a really powerful feeling among our fans that the protracted process endured over recent weeks is nothing short of appalling and merits the closest examination. Assembly President, Andy Ker...r said â??The fact that confirmation of our membership was announced less than 36 hours before our fixture against Brechin highlights the incompetence of the SFA and the manner in which they have dealt with the membership application from Rangers FC has been a disgrace. Their approach has smacked of vindictiveness and has undoubtedly diminished the reputation and standing of Scottish football. The SPL clubs have also been a key factor in the mishandling of this whole episode. Their eagerness to remove Rangers from their league has backfired as their cute little pact with the SFA to bully the SFL clubs to accept us in SFL Division 1 failed miserably. The consequences are now biting and they still want to use Rangers as a bartering tool for their own selfish ends. We never wanted any favours or special treatment and we have readily accepted the punishment of demotion to SFL Division 3, the consequential expulsion from European competition for at least 4 years and the loss of the majority of our first-team playing squad. However, the notion that our membership of the SFA has to be subject to conditions that are clearly in the domain of the old company and individuals within the old company is totally ridiculous. It smacks of the SFA using the new Rangers to mask their own deficiencies in governance. If it is possible, we would like to see a formal Judicial Review of the whole process of the Scottish Football Associationâ??s governance of the â??Rangers scenarioâ? and letâ??s have the transparency and integrity of all the main parties tested to the same degree that others have demanded of both oldco and newco Rangers. For our Manager, Ally McCoist, to vent his frustrations in the manner that he has, it is absolutely clear that the handling of this whole episode by the SFA and the SPL has been a disgrace. We stand 100% behind him in his plea that the blatant persecution has to stop.â?

  8. by Lindsay Herron ALLY McCOIST has spoken passionately about the incredible saga over Rangers becoming members of the SFA. The manager is almost at the end of his tether after slamming the handling of the whole situation and criticising the leadership of Scottish football. He said: He said: "48 hours from now, we are supposed to start the season with a game at Brechin and, as I sit here today, I don't know exactly what our status in the game is, where our players, that we have, should be registered - and what the future holds for us going into next week. "It's a ludicrous situation - and I owe it to our fans - to make my views known on it. "No one is denying that Rangers were badly mismanaged for 10 months. Nor are we disputing that we should be punished for that. We have been. We accept that punishment and want to start putting the past behind us and move forward. "But that is not being allowed to happen - and I have to ask myself why? "In recent days, I have been in a number of meetings with Stewart Regan, Rod Petrie and other senior SFA figures - and despair at the lack of leadership shown. "In my years in professional football, I have not always agreed with everything the SFA did or said. But, no matter what you thought of their decisions, there was no doubt they ran the game firmly and robustly. "I can only imagine Ernie Walker looking down on us now and shaking his head in disbelief at the sad state of affairs and the way they have been mishandled. "As for the SPL, they seem determined to pursue as hostile an agenda as possible towards Rangers. "They kicked us out of the SPL - which was their right- and we acknowledge that - but that doesn't seem enough for Neil Doncaster and some of his board. "Not only as they withholding our SPL prize money for last season - they won't tell us how much it is but we reckon it to be about £1.3million. "And having said they don't want us - they do want a bigger share of the TV money that our presence will bring to the SFL and its clubs. Never mind sporting integrity - where is the moral integrity there? "And there is no line to be drawn in the sand. Rangers have not been punished enough in their eyes and along with one or two people who have a vested interest within SPL clubs, our right to past titles will be challenged. They want what we and our fans bring, yet seem determined to strip us of every bit of our dignity. It has to stop. "Sadly, only one Scottish football body has offered us any help or assistance - the SFL and I would like to thank David Longmuir, Jim Ballantyne and 29 of their 30 member clubs for inviting us into the SFL. "We are grateful for the opportunity. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead, making new friends in the months ahead and having a positive impact on the SFL. "It is now over five months since Rangers went into administration. It is time to start playing football again - and I am not alone in thinking this. "In recent days I have bumped into Celtic, Hearts and Motherwell fans, and they were saying the same thing - "It's time to stop kicking Rangers and start getting Scottish football looking forward not back". "I couldn't agree more."

  13. RANGERS could finally be awarded SFA membership â?? but only for ONE DAY. Ally McCoistâ??s men are set to land a conditional licence to face Brechin in a televised Ramsdens Cup clash on Sunday. Then it will be taken back off them before talks continue next week. That is one of the options being considered by football chiefs as the stormy wrangle over the clubâ??s membership of the SFA rages on. Just TWO days before Gers are due to play competitive football again, they have not yet been given the licence they need. They continue to be at loggerheads with the SPL over the future punishments and TV rights. High level talks have hit a wall after a fortnight. And as the deadline looms ahead of this weekendâ??s action, there have been real fears that the cup clash with Brechin scheduled may NOT be able to go ahead. That has prompted officials to look into a compromise solution â?? and the 90 minute licence could fit the bill. Legally SFA chiefs may be unable to sanction such a move â?? but they will still try if no agreement is reached by tonight. Gers are refusing to cave in and sign any agreement which could see them stripped of league titles won during the EBT years. But the SPL insist that an independent tribunal must be allowed to study the evidence and make a ruling. That is the biggest stumbling block in discussions between five parties. The so-called old Rangers, new Rangers, the SPL, the SFA and SFL are all involved. E-mails were being sent back and forth late last night in a bid to finalise things and discussions will resume this morning in the hope that a deal can be struck. Itâ??s unclear whether that would allow boss McCoist to sign any of his targets. Ian Black and Craig Beattie have been training with a view to signing deals. Robbie Savage has revealed he wants to come out of retirement to play in the Third Division. But until the club has got SFA membership no players can actually be signed. Meanwhile, Allan McGregor has joined Besiktas and insisted: â??Iâ??m ready for the challenge.â? The ex-Rangers keeper, 30, agreed a two-year deal worth £35,000 a week with the Turkish cracks. Gregsy, 30, completed his medical and will now jet out to Austria to join up with his new team-mates. He said: â??Itâ??s a big club with big tradition and supposedly they have great fans who make a lot of noise. â??Itâ??s a new challenge thatâ??s come up and Iâ??m ready for it. Iâ??ll be giving my all here, as I do every time I play.â? Gers owner Charles Green will fight for compensation insisting McGregor could NOT quit Ibrox for nothing. McGregor insisted: â??My club went into liquidation in June and I became a free agent.â? http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/leaguedivision3/4457052/Gers-set-to-get-nod-at-last-but-only-for-telly-game-at-Brechin.html

  15. Beşiktaş have completed the transfer of Allan McGregor. The Istanbul club released a statement on the Public Disclosure Forum (KAP) confirming the move and disclosing financial details. "Allan McGregor has agreed to a two-year contract worth €1.2 million per-season." McGregor told, BJK TV, "I became a free agent following Glasgow Ranger's relegation. Beşiktaş declared their interest, one thing led to another and now I am here. "I'm excited to be here, it's a big club with a big tradition. The fans are great, they really get behind the club, I can't wait to play in front of them. "It's a fresh start and one I'm ready for. "I'll just give my all for the team and hopefully I can do my best" he said. The experienced keeper spent six seasons at Rangers and has 21 Scotland international caps. http://www.turkish-football.com/news_read.php?id=3260
  16. Former Hull City hero Dean Windass has offered to play for Glasgow Rangers next season. The 43-year-old, who played SPL football for Aberdeen nearly 20 years ago, says he is willing to come out of retirement to play for Rangers in the Scottish third division. Ready for action: Dean Windass Former Wales international Robbie Savage has also offered his services for free to assist Rangers boss Ally McCoist who is looking for new recruits following his club's shock demotion to the lowest tier of Scottish football. Windass, who has been treated for depression in the last six months after attempting suicide, retired three years ago and was briefly assistant manager at Darlington. Last season he played for Scarborough Athletic in the Northern East Counties Premier Division. He said: 'Rangers are still a massive club and I loved playing against them when I was in Scotland for Aberdeen, and always had a good time with the fans at Ibrox. 'The thought of playing for the club and helping them rebuild would be very exciting. I've kept myself in good shape and I know I could still handle playing at that level.' 17. A decade on from liquidation can Fiorentina act as a blueprint for SPL giants Glasgow Rangers to rise back to the top? Dark clouds loom over Ibrox at the moment and the Rangers motto of â??Readyâ?? is being sternly tested; as I am not sure many of the Gers faithful, even the most paranoid, were â??readyâ?? for the summer they have endured. This week Rangers newco head Charles Green seemed to have assured words at hand that SFA membership would be granted â??within the next 24 hoursâ?? and therefore a ramshackle Rangers squad would be able to fulfil their fixture with Brechin on Sunday. Now with reports that an agreement is not any nearer today than it was last week Rangers again find themselves in limbo. Having Glaswegian blood coursing through my veins somewhere I was always destined to develop an affinity to for one of the Old Firm clubs. For me it was Glasgow Rangers, mainly because of my love for former Everton and Manchester United wing wizard Andrei Kanchelskis, think Andrei Arshavin but quicker. But if Rangers fans look to another of Kanchelskisâ??s former clubs they can find hope in events from Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina a decade ago. This summer is the tenth anniversary of the reforming of the Florence club. After racking up tax debts to rival Rangersâ?? they were denied entrance to Serie B and ceased to exist; reforming with the name Florentia Viola, in Serie C2 the 4th tier of Italian football. What a fall from grace for a team who once had stars such as Rui Costa and Gabriel Batistuta adorning the violet strip as they produced historical wins against Arsenal and Manchester United in the 90â??s. They kept hold of influential players such as Angelo Di Livio; and also acquired the crème de la crème of Italyâ??s lower league players such as Cristian Rigano and Massimiliano Scaglia not to mention loaning in future Italian internationals Fabio Quagliarella and Allesandro Diamanti. The club destroyed numerous attendance records as they cantered to a league win. After being fast tracked into Serie B after a revamp and expansion of the Italian league system Fiorentina were promoted through the playoff system back into Serie A in less than 3 years and also re-acquired the rights to use the name Fiorentina along the way. But the fact is they may have lost that right legally, but in the eyes of players, fans and opponents this was still Fiorentina, the Lillies; winners of 2 Serie A titles, 6 Coppa Italiaâ??s and European football regulars. This applies to Rangers; whatever happens the name and perhaps most importantly the supporters of the club remain; and if they can be resilient in the face of crisis eventually the names and faces of the â??suitsâ?? who have created this situation will be forgotten but any players who help lead them back to glory will go into footballing folklore http://hereisthecity.com/2012/07/25/glasgow-rangers-can-learn-from-fiorentina-ten-years-ago/
  18. More from BK re the offer.............. The Gentleman negotiating on behalf of the controlling investors was aware that the deal was still on the table as there was ongoing dialogue as the position of Rangers worsened. This same Gentleman employs Charles Green. He was and is aware of all these details so to claim ignorance (read his statement) was misleading. However to avoid further 'misunderstandings' it was appropriate to submit same offer to Zeus, by recorded delivery with proof of funding. Yes the leak, which I reiterate came from inside Ibrox, puts further pressure on Mr Green as the fans, who up until then thought all other financed bidders had departed, realised there was an alternative. If this was playing the press, our camp would have leaked it end June. question on the other 49%. This would be offered immediately to Blue Knight investors, other honourable and trustworthy people and fans. So realistically the investors would prob get out pretty quick. However to get deal done quickly and take control, getting the Rangers family united again, time was of the essence and 51% would be enough initially to achieve this.
  19. More from BK................Offer was submitted 25 June to controlling investors, and verbally rejected 27 June. Since then , the financial projections of RFC have subsided considerably along with the player assets etc. Since it was leaked (from within Rangers), and Mr Green denied knowledge of it, (amazing since his Directors discussed the bid with persons outwith Management), the Offer has been resubmitted to Zeus, without an expiry date. It should now be more attractive to investors as it gives them a way out within 24 months with their investment plus 10% back. However we have not recieved a response. We expect it to be rejected but they may revert if they need the cash flow.
  20. RANGERS’ opponents in their first outing as a newco have made commemorative mugs to mark the occasion. Brechin City will welcome the Gers to Glebe Park for Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup first-round match, providing their Ibrox opponents are granted the SFA licence. And the Second Division club, from Angus, are keen to cash in on the historic clash, which is being shown on BBC Alba, with merchandise. Around 1500 tickets were put up for sale to their own supporters on Monday after granting Rangers an allocation of 2500. Brechin secretary Gus Fairlie said: “Our tickets went on sale on Monday evening and sold out on Monday evening. “Rangers sold theirs as quickly as us. I’m delighted to say it’s a sell-out.” http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/sfl/2012/07/25/brechin-city-make-mugs-to-commemorate-clash-with-rangers-86908-23912400/
  21. Brechin fear financial chaos if Rangers don't get licence in time for Ramsdens Cup tie Jul 25 2012 By Greig Thomas Brechin have warned their financial plans for the new season could be wrecked if this weekendâ??s Ramsdens Cup tie against Rangers is called off. Charles Greenâ??s newco are still awaiting the licence to allow the Ibrox side to compete in SFA tournaments, with the new season just days away. Brechin are due to host Rangers in front of the TV cameras in the first-round tie on Sunday â?? but uncertainty surrounds the 4000 sell-out fixture due to the licence hold-up. And Glebe Park vice- chairman Martin Smith said: â??Iâ??ve been having sleepless nights. â??Every day I wake up expecting a phone call or text saying they have the licence and we can play. â??Weâ??re going on the assumption the game will go ahead.â? Smith also believes the financial implications of Rangers not being in the top flight, coupled with the possible cancellation of their cup-tie, would mean Brechinâ??s budget taking a hit. He said: â??We got the Armageddon scenario from Neil Doncaster not so long ago where Sky pull the plug completely and put SPL and SFL clubs in danger. â??And that would mean a big change in our circumstances. â??On that basis, we thought the Rangers game coming up would help to fill the gap. â??Weâ??ve not done the budget yet for this year but obviously with the Rangers game in mind we could have a great start to the season. â??Weâ??ve sold more season tickets and that â?? allied with the money coming from the cup game and from the TV coverage â?? would make a huge difference.â? Brechin go into the new campaign a league above Rangers but Smith reckons the cup fixture could still be their biggest game on and off the pitch this season. He added: â??We sold our tickets out in 45 minutes. Rangers did the same thing at Ibrox. â??We have also sold all of our sponsorship packages and everything is in place. â??It is all set up for a wonderful day here in Brechin â?? as long as Rangers get a licence.â? http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/sfl/2012/07/25/brechin-fear-financial-chaos-if-rangers-don-t-get-licence-in-time-for-ramsdens-cup-tie-86908-23912344/
